SUSTAINABILITY
First Trafford Residents to achieve the Carbon Literacy Standard
Four group projects in the pipeline following the training
Friends of Dainewell Park to become the first Carbon Literate Community Group in Trafford
‘A Carbon Literate City’ is one of the key aims of Manchester; A Certain Future. All residents, workers and learners in the city will be “carbon literate” by 2020
“Carbon literacy is about understanding what I need to do, where I can get help to do it, actually doing it and seeing that I’ve done it”
Our Carbon Literacy Training:
Explores the facts about climate change through video, audio and presentation. Encourages open, interactive and honest discussion
Inspires participants to take action by incorporating a tour of best practice sustainable projects eg. The TreeStation, Off Shoots Burnley, Hulme Community Garden Centre
Enables participants to see the additional benefits and outcomes that come with developing local low carbon projects, such as health benefits and community cohesion
Helps groups understand where to get help and guidance to make their projects a reality e.g. Encourages networking and signposts to internet resources, local and national support organisations, case studies and funding
Gathers evidence for assessment of the carbon literacy standard in the form of a highly visual climate tree
Encourages the Local Community by encouraging participants to feedback to their peers at work, in the community and at school
Is accessible to all, we use local venues and highly visual learning materials and provide transport for the tour
Is available to community groups and other organisations, including businesses, schools and housing associations

PARTNERS
“We thoroughly enjoyed the Carbon Literacy
training. I would certainly recommend it to anyone.
The day is a real mix of workshop activities and practical visits. We are
hoping that one day soon, Dainewell Park will
be one of those places people visit to see how
you can support the environment and benefit
the community.”
