St Elizabeth's Mass- Sunday 10th

November.

On Sunday 10th November students helped to lead the

Liturgy at Mass at St Elizabeth's. A number of our students

are active members of this Parish and serve the Church as

altar servers and trainee youth leaders- which Fr Moses

mentioned in his Sermon on Sunday. Students also helped to

lead the Liturgy by readings, presenting the offertory gifts

and helping with the music. a huge thank you to the Parish

and Fr Moses for a warm welcome and to the students for

their support.

Peace Conference

Cardinal Newman students have been superb ambas-

sadors at the Lord Mayor’s peace and reconciliation

conference. They have come up with lots of ideas on

how to make our city, community and school a lot

more peaceful.

Year 8 Mass Friday 8th November

On Friday 8th November Year 8 celebrated Mass together

taking time to reflect upon the Gospel of the day. The

students worked hard in preparation creating beautiful

artwork, rehearsing the music, readings, choosing prayers

and creating a drama to explain the Gospel message. The

message was "Invest in goodness", Year 8 showed their

goodness in the celebration of Mass and we are very proud

of them. A huge thank you to Fr Pat for celebrating Mass

for us.

Year 9 Masses

On Thursday 21st November Year 9 will celebrate Mass

with Fr Pat, the students will prepare the Liturgy and we are

looking forward to seeing what they offer.

During this term Year 9 are also planning and leading class

Masses, preparing a small Mass for their RE class which is

then celebrated on Friday before lunch time. The students

have all worked hard so far in preparation for these Masses

and they are a very peaceful, intimate celebration of Mass

away from the busy life of our school in our school Chapel.

ARYPT - Drayton Manor

On Saturday 2nd November 12 Year 7 students were given

the opportunity to experience a youth day with the Andy

Robinson Young Peoples Trust. We joined over 60 other

young people from Catholic primary and secondary schools

in the city for this day. We started the day with a youth

Mass at St John Fisher, followed by breakfast batches and a

short journey to Drayton Manor. We spent the day in

Drayton Manor enjoying the rides, games, arcades and

performances. We finished the day watching an incredible

fireworks display. The students had a fantastic day and we

are really grateful to Maria Bracken and the Andy Robinson Young Peoples Trust for giving our students this opportunity

and for all the hard work they do fundraising to help young

people in Coventry. You can find more information on

Facebook and Twitter - search Andrew Robinson Young

peoples trust- for information about the work of the trust

and ways to support.

Remembrance service

On Monday 11th November we held our annual

remembrance service. Our whole school community stood

in the beautiful sunshine to honour a 2 minutes silence in

memory of those who gave their lives through war and

conflict. We listened to scripture and devoted prayers to

our loved ones who are no longer with us.

We were delighted to be joined by parents and relatives of

former students. This year we were particularly pleased that

Dennis Davidson daughter, Heather could join us for our

remembrance service. We prayed for his eternal rest and

gave thanks for the wonderful legacy he has left at Cardinal

Newman. Year 7 students (Ethan Peters, David Kazembe

and Hannah Humphries) lay wreaths in the peace garden to

honour the memories of all our loved ones.

Thank you to some of our Peace and Justice students (Fergal

Walsh, Molly Wilson, Kiera Jones, Mya Richard, Jesse

Mbanga, Cynthi Atem, Jessica Harris-Cardwell) who helped

with meeting and greeting our visitors. They were real

ambassadors for the school. Well done to our beautiful

readers, Exauce Malula , Paul Makavore , Faye Taylor,

Bridget Williams , Oliwia Luszcz , Ellie Moorcroft and Oliver

Kelly who led the service with reverence and respect.

A special thank you to Mr Kennedy, one of our school

Governors who read “Flanders Fields” with dignity and

decorum . We also would like to thank Fr Pat for his

blessings upon the school.

Thank you to all who attended. We were incredibly proud

of all our students.

Cardinal Newman Remembers

Cardinal Newman is very important to our school

community. Our remembrance service is a key date in our

school year and we gather focused around our peace garden

to remember those who gave their lives to protect our

country but also to remember the lives of those who have

been part of our school community. In our peace garden we

have a number of memorial plaques, if you would like a loved

one, who was part of our Cardinal Newman community, to
