About one third of our members have signed up to this initiative which, in its two years existence, has paid out £2,800 in prize money and provided £5,500 in support of the playing budget. If we can grow our 400 membership or numbers of units we can look to increase either prize money or the pay out frequency. Membership of the 400 Club is just £12. That sum secures the owner one draw unit which is entered into four quarterly draws plus the big one at Christmas. Members and their families and friends may hold up to five units. The quarterly prizes are 1st £100, 2nd £75 and 3rd £50. The extra draw at Christmas pays out £500 to the winner! The first draw of 2018 will take place in the Cardinals’ Bar after the home match versus Wrexham on March 17th. If not already a member then please consider joining us and supporting WFC in this way. If you would like to join or increase your units then an application form is enclosed. Thanks as ever for your support and good luck!

A Word from our Chairman...

As we approach the final third of the season, on behalf of the Cards Trust Board I should like to thank you all for your support and, in particular, those who contribute to Boost the Budget, Goldrush sales, the 400 Club and by making other ad hoc donations. All monies raised goes towards the playing squad.

This season, we anticipate being able to donate in the region of £25,000 to the club, another tremendous achievement.

Back in September, we responded to a request from the Club Board by contributing £1,900 towards training ground costs for the club’s Bisley training ground facilities, this sum coming from the 400 Club profits. Anthony Limbrick was extremely grateful for our contribution.

Comments and suggestions from supporters and Cards Trust members are regularly fed to the club for the Board’s consideration and these are much appreciated and often acted upon.

Finally, as you will read below, the Trust is always in need of assistance, particularly as some key roles currently need to be filled. If you can give up some time to support Woking FC, please contact me at [email protected]

Thank you.

The Cards Trust ‘400 Club’

The Cards Trust 400 Club is so called because there are approximately 400 Trust Members.

Away Travel

Following Alan Barnes’ announcement in November that he would be retiring from his role as organiser of away coach travel arrangements, the position remains vacant, notwithstanding the efforts of the Trust to secure a replacement.

Without an organiser and coach marshall for the trips, the Trust regrets that this valuable service will have to be withdrawn from the start of next season. Clearly, this is an eventuality we would wish to avoid, so if anyone feels that they can assist, please contact Rupert Phillips urgently.

The Trust Board would like to place on record its thanks to Alan for his hard work and dedication to Woking FC and the Cards Trust over many years and in particular for his efforts in this area.

Goldrush

Many thanks to supporters who regularly contribute to Goldrush sales at home matches. The average prize this season has been an impressive £350-£400, occasionally higher, which provides an excellent fortnightly boost to Trust funds, all of which is channeled into supporting the football club.

A big thank you to all of the Goldrush team, who are out in all weathers selling tickets and in particular to Judith, Sarah and George, who miss the first half of every game counting money and folding tickets in readiness for the pitch-side draw at halftime.

This season, in addition to details of the winning ticket number being posted in the Cardinals’ Bar, the information is also displayed in the Trust Office window.

Please continue to buy a Goldrush ticket or two at home matches and support the club.

Junior Cards

Due to increasing work commitments, Phil Batts has reluctantlydecided to retire from the Trust Board (and his role as a JC organiser)at the end of the season.

The Trust Board would like to take this opportunity to thank Phil for his hard work andcommitment over the past few seasons. He was instrumental (along with Nick Shawand Liz Siviers) in setting up the Junior Cards scheme three seasons ago. Membershiphas steadily grown and is now over the 100 mark.

Throughout the year, halftime penalty shootouts are held at home league games and inthe past two seasons the children have enjoyed, free of charge, organised tours of bothWembley Stadium and Stamford Bridge.

It is imperative, from a Cards Trust perspective, that this scheme continues to operate inseasons to come as our young fans will play an important role in the future of Woking Football Club. For this to happen, we urgently need a volunteer or two to take on Phil’s role from next season. If you think you are that person, or know of someone who may be interested, please contact Phil at [email protected] or speak to him at any home game.

Match Day Experience

This season Trust Board members Paula Assheton and Kevin Jones, with the agreement of the Club Board, have been meeting the away team coach on a regular basis on its arrival at the Laithwaite Community Stadium, in order to direct players, management, directors and press to the appropriate areas of the ground. This Trust initiative, it is felt, only serves to increase WFC’s image as a friendly and welcoming club.

In addition, this season Paula has sponsored the two new Cards Trust banners which are on display within the ground and do a fine job in promoting the work of the Trust.

Finally, many supporters may be unaware that a small team of volunteers give up their time freely after every home match to clean up around the ground - picking up paper, empty hot and cold drinks containers etc. and bagging them up. The group numbers only a few so if you are able to offer your assistance, even on an occasional basis, this would be greatly appreciated. Anyone able to help should contact Paula Assheton.

Quiz Night - Friday 16th March

This popular annual event will take place on the above date in the Cardinals’ Bar and will start at 7.30pm. Cost for the evening will be £7 per person and this will include food.

Ideally, teams of six will compete but this is not essential and teams can be made up on the night. Once again, we are grateful to John Greenwood and Mark Smith for organising the event and to Martin Oakley who will be compère for the night.

If you are unable to attend but could donate a raffle prize, that would be greatly appreciated. All monies raised will go towards Anthony Limbrick’s playing budget.

Please do your best to attend and help support the efforts of the Trust.

Further details may be obtained from John Greenwood at [email protected] or by texting him on 07834 362296.

As we near the end of another interesting and challenging season, which will hopefully see us comfortably retain our status in the fifth tier of English football, many thanks to all WFC fans for continuing to give great support to our club and for supporting the work of the Cards Trust.

Finally...
