'CIMS CANCER CENTER' is a new comprehensive Cancer Care center providing all state-of-the-art facilities under one roof with a vision of world class quality care. Cancer care requires mult id isc ip l inary approach including radiation oncology, surgical oncology, medical oncology, pathology, radiology, rehabilitation, nursing care and many other ancillary services. We took the mission of providing all facilities under one r o o f a n d s u c c e e d e d i n establishing it in a record time span. All though it's new in structure, but it is 'old' in terms of experience; as the most experienced minds in the field of oncology in Ahmedabad have joined the hands to fulfill this mission.

With the dream of providing world class treatment facility to our patients, we looked for the best linear Accelerator currently available. We are proud to announce the first radiation center in the India to commission and start clinical use of the latest Linear Accelerator “VERSA HD”; which is also the first of its kind in Asia. Versa HD gives clinicians the

flexibility to deliver conventional therapies to treat a wide range of tumors throughout the body, while also enabling treatment of highly complex cancers that require extreme targeting precision. With this ground breaking combination, clinicians can now, for the first time, take full

advantage of higher dose rate delivery, potentially enabling even greater capabilities for sophisticated therapies, including stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS), stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) and volumetric arc therapy (VMAT).

Treating a cancer patient is just half the story. It is a complete care package which ultimately heals the patient. At CIMS CANCER, We deliver 'CARE' with holistic & humanitarian approach with our trained & gentle staff. Ancillary care comprises significant importance in the cancer care rehabilitation for example speech therapy, swallowing, physiotherapy, stoma-care, colostomy-care, lymphedema care, psychological support, pain management, etc.

Radio Surgery for Bilateral Acoustic Schwannoms

Neurofibromatosis Type II is a genetic disease. It is also

known as “MISME Syndrome” (Multiple Inherited

Schwannomas, Meningiomas, and Ependymomas). The

main manifestation of the disease is the development of

symmetric, non-malignant brain tumors in the region of

the cranial nerve VIII, which is the "Vestibulo-cochlear

nerve". NF II is caused by mutations of the "Merlin" gene.

The mutation is noted on the chromosome 22 band q11-

13. It has an Autosomal Dominant mode of transmission.

Incidence of the disease is about 1 in 60,000.

well appreciated on

MRI. They also tend to

develop Meningiomas

or tumor with other

cranial nerves. 90 % of patients also present with eye

problems. The most common is juvenile subcapsular

cataract. Patients usually presents with following

symptoms: hearing loss (98%), tinnitus (70%),

dysequilibrium (67%), headache (32%), facial numbness

and weakness (29% and 10% respectively).

Treatment – Surgical removal of the tumor is the

treatment of choice. There are different approaches for

surgery like retrosigmoid, translabyrinthine, middle fossa

approach or endoscopic surgery.

techniques, therapeutic

radiation focused on the

exposure to surrounding

normal tissues. Although

radiosurgery can seldom

completely destroy a tumor, it can often arrest its growth

or reduce its size. Radiation is less immediately damaging

than conventional surgery.

Case Report

27 year old female presented to us with Bilateral hearing

loss. On MRI with contrast it showed she had bilateral

small acoustic schwannomas.

She was treated on Versa HD (the Latest Linear

Accelerator) at CIMS Hospital. She was treated with

Stereotactic Radiosurgery. High dose of radiation given to

both the schwannomas, sparing normal brain and normal

ear (cochlea ).
