Hi, everyone!
I hope you have all been enjoying your summer. There are so many wonderful things to do and opportunities to spend time with family and friends! We have been quite busy at The John 3:16 Center, too. Our walking trail is in place, ready to have side projects like benches, recycling bins, and more added. Environmental Education opportunities are being offered. Summer camp is in full swing—children are enjoying the devotional, recreational, and educational activities that have been planned as well as field trips sponsored through our summer camp donors and Halifax Recreation Partners. You’ll see some notes from them within this newsletter and meet our summer camp counselors!
This summer also brings with it an opportunity to reflect and reminisce. Did you know that The John 3:16 Center will be celebrating its 10th anniversary this September?! I wasn’t here when so many people from the community came together to clear the property, build the Center, and rejoice in the Grand Opening, but I began working here the following January. It is truly amazing to consider all of the people God has brought to The John 3:16 Center over the years, both to receive services and to serve…and many of these overlapped! Watching the children grow has been such a blessing (though it makes me feel old at times!); I know of 4 original afterschool students who graduated this year and are heading to college. Yet another original student worked at our summer day camp both last year and this year! It will be exciting to welcome people back to celebrate this milestone. We hope you will be able to join us September 27th!
Don’t forget to take a look at the events being offered this summer in addition to our Summer Day Camp! We would love to have you and your families or visiting guests join us for our Nature Celebration or Nature Walk. Our Environmental Educationalists have done an excellent job planning activities and even have guest speakers coming to the Nature Celebration. You’ve missed a wonderful Star Gazing evening, but we plan to have another in early fall! Bring the children or grandchildren by to play on our playground while the adults walk our trail. If the weekdays aren’t convenient for you, come by on a Saturday from 9am-3pm!
Want to volunteer? We have plenty of opportunities for that: supervising our playground & walking trail after-hours, helping to maintain our computers, assisting with our 10th anniversary celebration, working with others to help keep our grounds mowed and flower beds in good condition, and more! Without volunteers, we would not be able to serve nearly so many as we do!
We also appreciate the support you give us in so many other ways: donations of items for our programs or yard sales, financial contributions, sharing information about our organization with others, and prayers. It means so much that you know we are constantly trying to be the best stewards possible of what we have been given. Please continue to pray as we complete our strategic planning process and begin implementation. Pray also that everything we do will glorify God and draw people closer to him. May God bless each of you.
In Christ,
Shannon McAllister

summer working with your children!
A Few Words From the KiDs…
I have learned some new things like there are 5 chapters in Psalms. I like the water games, boards games, and field games.
Thank you for everything. Your camp is the best camp ever in the worldwide world. Thank you!!!! Sincerely, C.H.
Thank you so much for making my summer fun at John 3:16. I LOVE learning but in a fun way here. I like the water games,
devotions (Psalms) and field games. So thank you sponsors for making John 3:16 fun for me. Sincerely G.L.
I am so thankful for the money you have donated. I enjoy the games, and food. I hope I can come back. This has been a great
week. I loved the field trip. Paul, and Silas were good prophets. Sincerely T.H.
Thank you. For sponsoring the J316 Summer Camp. We learned about Paul, Greece, and Rome. I like Mr. Justin, Ms. Tasha,
and Mrs. Holmes. Yours Truly, A.H.
This week Ms. Tasha, Mr. Justin, and Mrs. Holmes told us about Paul and on Wednesday we went on a field trip. It was in
Historic Halifax and it was fun there. Love, J.H.

My name is Natarshia Corley and it's my second year as a camp counselor. I
am a junior psychology major at Winston Salem State University. I love all
the excitement kids bring with them to camp even when it's their first time
or they don't know anyone. I look forward to growing in Christ and learning
new things with the children and watching them grow both
socially and in their faith also.
My name is Justin Fitts. I attend Piney Grove Baptist Church in Hali-fax, North Carolina. This year, I will be attending Winston-Salem State
University. I will major in Exercise Science to become a Physical Therapist. I like being a counselor because it gives me the opportunity
to influence a child's life in a positive way.

Physically and Spiritually Fit!
This is our new walking trail. It is officially
open for use, and has been a focal point
of some environmental education at The
Center. We love for you to join us in
learning about the beauty that God has
created in some of our upcoming events.
Nature Celebration! Saturday, July,
19th, 2014 from 11AM to 2PM It will
be a fun filled day, full of games,
prizes, refreshments, and of course
learning about the environment.
Nature Walk! Saturday, August 9th,
11AM to 1PM.
Teaching kids and people in the community about the environment is very important. These are the people that effect the local environment for generations to come. It is our jobs as the Environmental Educationalists to teach kids and people in the community about their environment and how they can take care of it. Environmental Education is also a way to get people outside and enjoying nature. The John 3:16 Center has a new nature trail for people in the community to use. It is a great opportunity for people to get outside, and enjoy nature and the environment.
Our Environmental Educationalists
Name That Program…. The afterschool program, formerly known as Homework Club, has been redesigned. Our fo-cus is shifting away from assisting with home-work and towards more academic enrichment. We hope that we will better serve our students by incorporating STEM and other educational enrichment programs to create activities to encourage skill building, and character enrichment. As always, the program will still include devotions, healthy snacks, and be offered free of charge to participants. Obviously, this awesome program needs an equally awesome name. Please contact Shannon or Brittany with your name ideas before August 8th. The person with the winning program name will receive a prize and recognition in the next newsletter! If you know someone interested in attending the program applications for the 2014-2015 school year can be turned in beginning August 1st. The first day will be September 8th! A two hour per week volunteer commitment is required from each participating family. Space is limited to 20 children in grades 1-8. Any opening that may occur during the school year will be filled from our waiting list. Please visit our website www.john316center.org for a listing of the many ways you can help! If you have any questions about the program or are interested in becoming a volunteer, please call The John 3:16 Center at 252-586-1800.

Summer Support—The John 3:16 Center We hope each of you are enjoying your summer vacations, weekend trips, and visits. Summer is a wonderful time of year for these, family barbeques, and so many other outdoor events! As I am sure many of you know, however, it is a difficult time for nonprofit organizations to raise funds for services offered throughout the year. While summer camp, year-round, and special programming keep us busy serving the community, giving slows drastically during the summer months. Please consider making a special summer gift to The John 3:16 Center. Contributions of any size would help us continue to offer and improve programs and services to children and families in need throughout the year. Please continue to pray for us, that we continue to exercise good stewardship over what we have been given and that we maintain our faith that God will provide what is truly needed.
Save the Date!
September 27th is The John 3:16 Center’s
10th Anniversary. Look for more
information regarding the celebration in
the next month!
