ADVANCED MANUFACTURING INDUSTRIAL TECHNOLOGY

Allegany College of Maryland is pleased to announce that All Advanced Manufacturing classes including: Machining, Industrial Maintenance and Welding, will be offered at our new locations at the Western Maryland Works facility at 37 Lane Avenue, LaVale, MD.

As part of an ongoing effort to support dislocated workers in our region, ACM has the potential to offer training in Industrial Maintenance Technology. Courses may include: Mechanical, Pneumatic, Electrical and Electrical Control Systems, Maintenance Operations, Hydraulics, Process Control and Maintenance Welding. These course offerings will be contingent on ability to fulfil course size and scheduling requirements.

In our welding lab, safety is our number one priority! In preparing for your welding course, you must provide leather welding gloves, protective eyewear, and a welding helmet. Welding jackets should also be worn throughout the course, which are provided. Please also wear appropriate clothing to class every night to ensure your safety. Proper clothing includes long pants or jeans with no holes or frays, a long sleeve shirt, and work boots- please, no tennis shoes.

MIG/TIG Welding (VTE748)This 40 hour intermediate course is for the welder with basic welding experience. You will train inwelding safety, gas metal arc welding (GMAW-MIG), and gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW-TIG) processes. The course includes metal arctransfers of short-circuiting, globular, spray arc,and power mode. Also included is instructionin how various shielding gases affect gas metalarc and gas tungsten arc welding. Hands-onexperience will be dedicated to welding onbasic carbon steel using edge, corner, lap, andfillet welds in all positions. Lifeguard Certification (PRO073)This course provides entry-level participants theknowledge and skills to prevent, recognize andrespond to aquatic emergencies and to providecare for breathing and cardiac emergencies,injuries and sudden illnesses until EMS personnel take over. Prerequisites: Minimumage: 15 years. Swim 300 yards continuously.Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs.Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40seconds. Starting in the water, swim 20 yards.Surface dive to a depth of 7 to 10 feet to retrievea 10-pound object. Return to the surface andswim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point. Exit the water without using aladder or steps.
