Career Advisers Message Highlighting your life
Througout the year you will be given many dates to stick to assessment tasks, exam timetables and dates related to job, university and TAFE applications. Mark or highlight these in your diary or on a calendar so you do not miss an opportunity! Clever planning is needed in completing application forms, so plan ahead, especially if you have to gather reports and references from others. This can sometimes take a long time to complete.

Cadetships A number of larger companies in western NSW offer cadetships in conjunction with Skillset. These usually take the form of a scholarship to assist you whilst you are studying at university plus a work placement program whilst you are on University holidays. Once you've completed your degree you may be offered a job with the company that has provided the cadetship. Cadetships are usually offered to year 12 students before they go to University and are conditional on the student getting their predicted ATAR and gaining admission to the relevant course. Cadetships are highly sought after because they offer generous financial support and a career pathway. They are most commonly available in professional skills shortage areas such as Mining Engineers, Water Engineers and Electrical Engineers. If you are planning a career as an Engineer you can register your interest in advance by emailing us. We will then contact you and invite you for a background interview.

National Disability Coordination Officer Program
The Australian Government’s National Disability
Coordination Officer (NDCO) Program targets the
barriers that people with disability face in successfully
accessing and completing post-school education and
training and subsequent employment.
A national network of NDCOs works within 31 specific
regions across Australia to improve the coordination and
delivery of support services to help make it easier to
enrol or participate in post-school education, training
and employment.
The goals of the NDCO program are to:
Improve transitions to help people with disability move
from school or the community into post-school
education and training and subsequent employment.
Increase participation by people with disability in higher
education, vocational education and training and
employment.
Establish better links between schools, universities,
TAFEs, training providers and disability service providers
so that they can work together to provide the best
possible assistance for people with disability.
NDCOs perform a range of functions to help people with
disability gain access to and successfully complete post-
school education and training, and employment. NDCOs
can provide practical assistance and advice to individuals
with disability and their families, education and training
providers, as well as employment and community
support agencies. Where can I find an NDCO?
