Often known as and addressed as theChief Mate
is responsible for the day to dayworking of the deck crew and for thestowage, loading, carriage anddischarge of the cargo with particularattention to the ships stability.
At sea he keeps the morning andevening bridge watches. Holds a Class1 or 2 Certificate.

Second Officer
Often known as the Second Mate.Is the ships navigator with a prime
responsibility for the upkeep of charts
and passage planning.At sea he keeps the 124 watches and inport shares cargo watches with the Third
Mate.He is often the ships medical officer.

Third Officer
The Third Mate holds a Class 4 (OOWDeck) Certificate and assists both theMate and Second Mate,
keeps the morning and evening 8-12watches at sea and shares cargowatches with the Second Mate in port.
He is also responsible for the shipslifesaving and fire-fighting equipment.

He has a prime responsibility for themain engines as well as spare gear andstores.

The Fourth Engineer holds a minimumof a Class 4 Engineering Officer of theWatch certificate and assists with all
aspects of machinery upkeep.
He is usually responsible for fuellingand daily monitoring of fuel supplies.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Age between 17 to 21 years old.
Possess SPM (Grade 1 or 2) or equivalentwith(i) a pass in English Language and
(ii) a strong credit in Mathematics, Physicsor General Science and(iii) a pass in Bahasa Malaysia (for SPMcandidates)
Have normal eyesight without aids andnormal colour vision.
Physically and medically fit.
