THE JJVCI ACADEMY OF ADVANCED

MANUFACTURING & ENGINEERING

A New Type of Dual Enrollment Partnership

• Focuses on a direct-to-career pathway

• Answers the State legislature’s requirement for a Career-based Early College experience

• Integrates, from the start, a strong relationship with an industry partner

• Includes one-on-one mentoring and paid internships

• A collaborative effort between Johnson & Johnson Vision Care Inc. (JJVCI), Duval County Public Schools (DCPS) and Florida State College of Jacksonville (FSCJ)

• Students will have the opportunity to earn, in addition to their high school diploma, an Associates of Science degree in Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering from FSCJ (at no cost to the students!).

What’s in it for me?

• 9th and 10th grades — combination of high school and initial college courses on the high school campus with embedded mentoring and extracurricular experiences

• Summer internships between 10th and 11th grade and 11th and 12th grade

• 11th and 12th grade — full-time enrollment on the FSCJ Downtown Campus

The Vistakon's Mentoring Program is based on the concept of mentoring young people in areas for which

Vistakon would consider the individuals for future employment. Students are given access to research,

development, manufacturing, etc. Vistakon employees will advise, preferably on a one-to-one basis, those

As a paid High School Intern, the prospective candidate will have the opportunity to gain valuable insight into the world of Advanced Manufacturing by being exposed to

the processes and procedures within a world class production environment. The intern will be assigned to various positions within the Manufacturing, Quality, and Environmental, Health, and Safety organizations. An intern should expect to own the following roles and

responsibilities: Contribute individually and/or as a team member to support the designated functional area, work

toward goals and objectives assigned by functional manager, or analyze business processes for

reengineering/improvement opportunities. Adheres to Environmental Health and Safety policy and procedures.

Early College Program in Engineering Technology and Advanced Manufacturing

• PERT, SAT, or ACT by May 1st of grade 10

Expectations from DCPS/FSCJ• All students are expected to work hard to attain and maintain required GPA and test

scores and participate in necessary remediation.

• All students are expected to exhibit mature behavior at the high school, field experiences, and while attending the college campus.

• All students are expected to demonstrate the highest level of academic honesty.

• All students are expected to learn and keep up-to-date with the requirements for a high school diploma and applicable college degree.

• All students and their parents will sign a contract which outlines expectations and responsibilities.

• All students are expected to ask for help when needed.

Final Outcomes• Opportunity to earn:
