ANZAC Day Service & K-6 Assembly

The school will conduct its annual service on Friday 7 April as part of the end of term, K-6 Assembly starting at 11.50am on that

day. Parents and other family members are invited to join us for this special event.

Term 2 Start Dates

Monday 24 April (Term 2) is Staff Development Day for all Carlton Public School Staff. This is a pupil free day. ANZAC Day is on

Tuesday 25 April. This is a Public Holiday. Students start Term 2 on Wednesday 26 April.

Year 5 entry to an Opportunity Class (OC) in 2018 If you would like your child considered for Year 5 opportunity class entry in 2018, you will need to apply on the internet using a

valid email address (not the student’s email address). Detailed instructions on how to apply online will be available from 26 April

2017 at https://education.nsw.gov.au/selective-high-schools-and-opportunity-classes/year-5. The application website opens on

26 April 2017 and closes on Friday 12 May 2017. No late applications will be accepted.

Reminders School Photographs: School Photo Days will be held on Tuesday 4 April and Wednesday 5 April- (Week 11 of this term).

VERY IMPORTANT – All photo envelopes need to be returned whether an order has been placed or not. This envelope is then matched up with your child’s roll class.

Please make sure you send envelopes back before Friday 31 March.

K-2 Pedlars’ Parade: Thursday 6 April 11:45am. Please remember to bring small change/ coins for purchases of items from the trays displayed by your children.

Parent/Teacher interviews at the end of Term One will be optional, where the interviews can be either teacher or

parent initiated. The standard Parent/Teacher interviews would remain for all students at the end of Term 2. From now

until the end of the term please make phone, personal or written contact with your child’s teacher to arrange an

interview time convenient to both parties.

Mothers Matter Breakfast – Thursday 4 May A note has gone home this week for the Mothers Matter Breakfast that is run by the P&C. This will be held on Thursday 4 May from 7:30 to 9am. Breakfast needs to be ordered and paid for in advance to assist with catering. Last orders will be taken on Friday 28 April – this in the end of week 1 in term 2. We’re also asking for assistance (particularly from the male school community!) to cook and serve breakfast to our wonderful mums. As an extra treat, everyone who gets their breakfast order in by the last day of term 1 (Friday 7 April) will go into the draw to win a Mother’s Day hamper on the morning of the breakfast. Sport news

This Friday will be the final Winter PSSA trials. We will be trialling netball, Oz-tag and rugby league. A lot of effort is spent coordinating times for teachers to hold trials for students in each of these sports. As is always the case with selection processes, many children do miss out on selection for PSSA teams. However, Carlton offers many wonderful sporting programs within the school that ensure all children participate in a sporting activity. Although children may be disappointed when they are not selected in a team this time around, it is important to know that there will always be opportunities for them to continue to try out again the following year. Parents play a huge role in helping our students overcome disappointments and helping them develop a growth mindset of continuing to strive to do one’s best in all aspects of school life and to persevere.

PREMIER’S READING CHALLENGE 2017

Congratulations to the 83 wonderful readers who so far have taken on the 2017 Premier’s Reading Challenge, as part of the biggest children's book club in Australia. The 2017 PRC runs to 25 August. Any books read from Term 4 2016 can count towards the 2017 Challenge.

Our School Library is a great supporter of the Premier’s Reading Challenge. The Teacher-Librarians can assist students to make PRC book selection easier and students are welcome to use the Library computers at lunchtime to browse PRC lists and complete their Reading Records.

Students register by using their DoE username and password to logon and then start their online student reading record via PRC website: www.premiersreadingchallenge.nsw.edu.au

Students who complete the Premier's Reading Challenge will receive a PRC Certificate and may appear in the PRC Gold and Platinum Honour Roll. Those who complete the Challenge for four years receive a gold certificate and after seven years, a platinum certificate. Further information such as rules, booklists and privacy information about the certificate and Honour Roll can be read on the PRC website.

CROSS COUNTRY CARNIVAL YEARS 3-6

URGENT – RETURN OF PAYMENT REQUIRED BEFORE END OF TERM 1

On Monday 1 May 2017, the school will be holding the Cross Country Carnival at Bexley Oval, Bexley. Please note this change of venue, due to ground availability. Due to the carnival being held early in Term 2, we require payment prior to end of term 1, Friday 7 April. Permission notes need to be signed by parents with any medical details listed and returned to the office collection money box. Children will be expected to wear school sports uniform, a school hat and sunscreen. All children should bring ALL their own food and drinks including their recess, lunch and a bottle of water. The canteen will NOT be operating on this day. All parents are invited to attend but must make their own way to the park. If you wish to take your child home early, please ensure your inform the student’s roll teacher prior to leaving. Please note: AGE RACES are raced in the age your child is turning in 2017. Also, at the zone carnival, the 8 and 9 year age groups are run as one event and at our school carnival we time these runners to select the fastest to compete at zone. My Excursion to the Tram Museum- Lucca W 2 Orange

I think I’m going to have a magnificent time at the tram museum. At 9:15am last Friday all Year 2 students and teachers went to

Sydney Tram Museum at Loftus. We were learning about olden day trams.

First we drew a magnificent olden day tram carefully. It was from Brisbane.

Then we rode an interesting old tram across the highway. It was called Princes Highway. We stopped traffic and waved at the

people in their cars and they waved back.

Next we explored lots of fantastic olden day trams. My favourite tram was the jail tram. When I went in it, I got horror struck!

There were two mannequins in it.

After that we learnt how rails worked. It was very interesting.

Finally we went back to the bus and came back to Carlton Public School.

I felt exhausted and happy because I had the most wonderful day.
