CFTK Raises Over $38K In Just 25 HoursBY HALEY WAXMAN COPY EDIT SUBCHAIR

Last month, Carolina For The Kids Foundationset out to achieve its most ambitious fundraisinggoal ever of raising $25,000 in just 25 hours. Theday was an overwhelming success, with just over$38,000 raised.

Evan Sherwood, Executive Director, is thrilledwith the outcome of the day and the credibility theorganization gained on campus.

We were very successful in leveraging ourcommittee members and their networks toaccomplish this goal, Sherwood said. I am mostproud of our committee members who were ourbiggest asset this day and Im so thankful for theirdedication to our cause.

There were many events throughout the day toencourage donations, beginning with the annualSmith Center Childrens Challenge against DukeDance Marathon. Though the game against NCState did not go in the Tar Heels favor, CFTKsolidifed a win against the Blue Devils.

Other fundraisers included seles with Rameses

at the Old Well and a committee member lock-in,during which committee members called bothbusinesses and personal contacts to solicit for

donations.Christina Lewis, Corporate Marketing Chair, said

over 200 companies were contacted throughoutthe day. If this event is carried on in the future,Lewis hopes to secure more sponsors to make theday even more exciting.

Sherwood said the biggest challenge for theday was guring out how to best reach out tocommunity sponsors.

We had a very uid list that day and wereconstantly updating and revising it, Sherwoodsaid. It would be nice next year to have a moreconcrete direction to go in in terms of having a setlist of community members to reach out to and

have a better game plan on how to attack that. With the success of this years eort, Sherwood

said he hopes to see the event carry on next year, but with an even bigger fundraising goal.

I think the energy and passion of everyone apart of CFTK was palpable throughout the day, andthat made this event so incredible, Lewis said.

Watching everyone work together and push forthis one goal was inspiring. I think that is what weshould all be so proud of.

Will was recently admitted to N.C. Childrens Hospital afterhaving already been treated for several days at an outsidehospital because of a traumatic foot injury. The 6-year-old

is expected to be hospitalized for several more days. As aresult, his familys nances have become tighter, as the boysfather is not paid when he is not at work. Through the ForThe Kids Fund, we have been able to provide the familywith meal tickets, helping to make their stay more pleasant.
