Carolinas’ Hound Show

May 12, 2018

Please plan to join us for the 42nd Annual Carolinas’ Hound Show! As always, we have a great slate of judges this year.

The Salute the Hounds party and dinner will be on the

show grounds at Lyell’s Meadow at the Implement Shed on Friday night before the show. The whip cracking, horn blowing, and hollering competitions will follow dinner.

The show starts Friday at 1:00 p.m., beginning with Beagles & Basset hounds in Ring 4. Beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, American and English hounds will show in Ring 1, Penn Marydel hounds in Ring 2, and Crossbred hounds in Ring 3.

Junior Handlers and Performance Trial hound classes will

be held during the lunch break. The Junior Pack classes will be judged right after the lunch break. The pack class will end the day.

In addition to Friday night’s Salute the Hounds party and

dinner, a delicious lunch will be served on Saturday in the Implement Shed on the show grounds. Breakfast will be on your own. Please sign up online when you make your entries or e-mail [email protected] no later than April 27, 2018, with a headcount for Friday’s party so that we may plan accordingly. Payment for the party and Saturday’s lunch will be collected by May 4. We strongly encourage you to sign up online and pay by credit card. We look forward to seeing you there! Best regards, Cameron Sadler & Neil Schwartzberg, CHS Co-Chairs Fred Berry, Carolinas District Representative

JOANN HILL PEACE, MFH, AIKEN HOUNDS, 1951–2017

AIKEN HOUNDS (SC) MASTER JOEY PEACE passed away December 3,

following a fall in the hunt field. Peace grew up on a horse farm in then-

rural Towson, Maryland, and attended St. Paul’s School and the University of

Maryland. She debuted at the Green Spring Valley Hunt Club, and married

James Peace in 1977. They moved to a farm in Chestertown, where they

managed a landscape nursery business for several decades.

After moving to South Carolina and joining the hunt club, Peace became

Master in 2012. Huntsman Katherine Gunter said, “She always rode in my

pocket and is sorely missed as a Master, a wonderful friend and mentor, and

a truly passionate foxhunter.” Peace’s devotion to foxhunting was only

exceeded by her dedication to her family. She is survived by her husband

Jim, her sister Kathy, sons Jamie and Will, along with three grandchildren

and many family members. Donations in her memory may be made to Aiken

Hounds Foundation, 331 Fairfield Street SE, Aiken, SC 29801; Hitchcock

Woods Foundation, PO Box 1702, Aiken, SC 29802; St Paul’s Church, 7579

Sandy Bottom Road, Chestertown, MD 21620; and the Humane Society of

Kent County, 10720 Augustine Herman Hwy, Chestertown, MD 21620.

We Need Your Support, Please! The Carolinas' District has a longstanding tradition of class sponsorship by its member hunts. The CHS Executive Committee encourages class sponsorships, and Masters are encouraged to spread the word about sponsorship opportunities to their respective hunts' subscribers. As a Class sponsor, your name will appear in the Show Program beneath the class sponsored. You may also want to consider sponsoring a class in memory or in honor of another. When filling out the sponsorship form, please provide text exactly as you would like it to appear in the program; the Carolinas' Hound Show will do its best to accommodate your specific request, but would prefer that you use language similar to the following examples:

Ms. Jane Smith In Memory of Ms. Jane Smith, M.F.H. In Honor of Ms. Jane Smith

Please submit your sponsorship request online at www.carolinashoundshow.com along with your payment to: The Carolinas' Hound Show by email: [email protected] or mail in to CHS P.O. Box 1874 Southern Pines, NC 28388 To ensure recognition in the show program, please return your sponsorship form and payment no later than April 27, 2018. Thank you in advance for your generous contribution.
