Carondelet Catholic School February 3, 2017 Catholic Schools Week! Students had a blast this week with the various dress-up days and ended our fun week with a great time at the Roller Garden! CCS MS NEWS 1 CCS MS NEWS Good works are links that form a chain of love. -Mother Teresa What have the 6th graders been up to? Math: Students have finished with decimals and started chapter 4 in their book, which is Powers and Roots. ELA: Students completed their look at the various comma rules. They also are enjoying reading The Wednesday Wars. Religion: Students are taking notes on the plagues in Egypt while learning what Moses did to free the people from slavery. Music: Students made connections between musicians who were popular during the Harlem Renaissance including Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, and Ella Fitzgerald.

What have the 7th graders been up to?

• Math: Ms. Schefter’s class is starting their study of multi-step equations and inequalities. Ms. Daugherty’s class is continuing their study of percent of problems and various ways to solve those problems.

•Religion: Students were asked to take a stand against an issue that disrespects life (abortion, euthanasia, suicide, racism, sexism, or ageism), find a quote they agreed with, and make a ‘bumper sticker’ about their chosen issue.

•Social Studies: Students are continuing their studies about World War I.

•Music: Students found examples of Baroque style word painting in a song on their iTunes and presented it to the class.

Announcements:

Please return any overdue books. Some students still have books out from the beginning of the school year, and this is not fair to others who are waiting to read them. Please check at home, in lockers, and in classrooms for any Carondelet library books and return them so that others can enjoy them.

What have the 8th graders been up to?

• Music: Students are making connections between traditional West African drumming music and the syncopated rhythms of early 20th century ragtime music.

• Religion: Students finished up their look at the Church in the middle ages and are preparing to take a look at the Reformation.

• ELA: Much work is being accomplished on History Day projects and students will complete reading Romeo and Juliet next week.

• Math: Students are learning how to graph, use substitution and elimination to solve the system of equations.
