1.Higher studies :

One can take up higher studies either in India or abroad depending upon his/her

interest . Again there are two options if you prepare higher studies i.e. Engineering

&management.

1.1 Higher studies in INDIA :

a)Engineering :

Higher studies in engineering leading toM.Tech/M.S degree can be taken up after getting

qualified in an all India level entrance test known asGATE(Graduate Aptitude Testing In Engineering) .The examination takes place in February ever year.Admissions to prestigious Institutions likeIIT,IISC,NITS and other university colleges will bemade based on the percentage score obtained inthis examination.

b) Management :

Management is one of the lucrative and challenging

careers and mostly candidates with engineering background arepreferred for these posts.

i .Indian Institutes of Management ( IIMS ) :

IIMS are the most prestigious institutes in the management education in India and

offer variety of courses in management . There are 4 IIMS in India located in Bangalore ,Ahmadabad ,Calcutta and Lucknow. Admissions to these institutes are made throughCAT(Common Admission Test) which is held in December every year .

ii .Other Entrances :

Other universities in India conduct their own entrance tests for admissions .

iii .NITIE :

National Institute of Industrial Engineering ,Mumbai is one of the prestigious

institutes of our country offering post graduate diploma in Industrial Engineering

iv .National Productivity Council :

National productivity council is offering training and promotional activities in

Industrial Engineering(IE) ,plant Engineering(PEP) and Industrial pollution prevention andcontrol(IPPC).

1.2 .HIGHER STUDIES ABROAD :

Every year thousands of students go abroad

for higher studies particularly in USA .There are over3300 accredited colleges and universities in the Unitedstates offering a wide range of programmes at differentlevel. Canada and Australia also attracting large numberof Indian graduates.

A).UNITED STATES :

The American academic year is approximately 32 weeks long and usuallybegins late August and late September . It is divided into terms of various lengths

,depending upon the Institution .

The examinations to be taken for getting admitted into these courses are

TOEFL , GRE and GMAT.

Generally US institutions require that international students whose first

language is not English to take the TOEFL(Test of English as foreign Language) . Ascale of above 550 in TOEFL is required for getting admission to graduate

programmes. The examination is being conducted at many centers in India .

Most of the US universities need Graduate Record Examination (GRE)

scores .This examination is conducted four times in a year in India .(GRECBT

B) . CANADA :

Canada is another country which offers programmes for higher studies. In most

Canadian Universities ,the academic year is divided into fall session (sept-dec) and the wintersession( jan-mar ). The process of applying should start 12 -18 months prior to the session forwhich one wishes to get enrolled .

All Canadian Universities require proof of proficiency in English . For this the TOEFLscore may be used . Some universities may require proficiency in French. In addition , the GREand GMAT may be required.

3.1 .Indian Engineering Services :

Indian Engineering services (IES) are deemed to be the most prestigiousGovernment services . The services are categorized into two types . Group - A and Group - B

3.2 .Defense services :

A) .INDIAN AIR FORCE ( IAF ) :

Indian Air force is the back bone of our countrysdefense . An engineer enters the Air force in the rank of pilotofficer and is directly involved with engineering activities .There are two modes of entry .

University entry scheme :

Under this scheme ,the candidates are selected to join Aeronautical Engineering

branch for permanent commission or short service commission while in pre-final/final year of

their engineering course . They will be paid a stipend approximately Rs 2,300/- for permanent

commission for the period of their final years stay in the college .the short service commission

candidates get a stipend of Rs 1150/- per month .

Age limit : 18 to 28 years

Educational &Qualification :Pre- final or final year engineer.

Entrance :Applications are called once in year through newspapers.

Medical Fitness :As per the standards laid down.

Engineering graduates are recruited into the following
