The library catalog was ac-cidentally deleted Friday Jan. 20while the library server was beingmoved to a new system.
Berry uses a server and sepa-rate device for storage of data onthe server. While the library data
was being transferred to a newstorage device, it was accidentallydeleted due to a past mislabeling.
Chief Information Ofcer Pen-ny Evans-Plants said fortunatelythere was still a physical serverand tape backup of most of thedata deleted. Berry has only re-cently switched to a virtual serverso almost all the data is backedup.
Evans-Plants said the reasonfor the switch to a new storagedevice for the library database
happened because the new stor-age device has much more spaceand creates automatic backups ofthe data on it.
So this will never happenagain now that we have this newstorage unit, Evans-Plants said.
Evans-Plants said only thecatalog of physical books remainsincomplete. The electronic data-
base and reserves are functioningnormally.
Memorial Library Direc-tor Sherre Harrington said onlythe past 18 months of informa-tion was lost and will have to bemanually entered again. The bar-codes of many books will need to
be manually entered. Harringtonsaid the goal is to have the systemup and running again sometimenext week.

On Jan. 30 a new policy on bikes aroundBerrys campus will go into effect that re-quires all bicycles to be properly chained, parked and registered.
Since last spring, this policy has been atopic of conversation. Seeing as the bikes
on campus belong to the students who livehere and Residence Life oversees them, itseemed tting for the new policy to be im -plemented by Residence Life.
Under the new policy, one student work-er will have the task of simply surveyingthe campus checking for bikes chained tohandrails, benches, or trees, parked in stairwells or placed anywhere else that is not adesignated bike rack once a week.
According to an inventory check recent-ly taken in December, there are more thanenough spaces in the bike racks to houseeach bike on campus.
When bikes are found not following pol-icy, they will be impounded and relocatedto a caged area near the Bike Shop. Pictureswill be taken and placed in a catalog for stu-
dents to browse through to pick out theirbike. These bikes will be able to be retrieved
by the owner for a ne of $25 of which allthe money will go into a fund for covered
bike storage and new bike racks. Althoughthere is a ne, the money goes straight backto help students.
Director of Residence Life and AssistantDean of Students Lindsey Taylor said themoney goes to directly better conditions forstudents and simply help our campus look
better when bikes are properly in use.
This is not difcult or in no way shouldit be intrusive of students, Taylor said. Two easy steps to avoid bikes being
impounded are to have bikes registeredwhich is completely free and can be doneat Campus Safety across Martha Berry Bou-levard opposite of the Gate of Opportunityand to use the bike racks rather than analternative.
Taylor said one reason students have toresort to using benches and other structures
besides the racks is due to the fact that theracks are not being used correctly whichlimits all the space that can be used formore bikes.

Dear Ms. Turnbuckle,It seems that there was an unspo-
ken agreement between all males in aserious relationship here at Berry thatthis time of year was going to be thedreaded...Engagement Season.
But seriously, everywhere I turn,my eyes are blinded by the sun glint-ing off a multi-faceted rock sitting onsome prissy girls ring fnger. And alltoo often, if you ask me, the guy onlyproposed because the girl twisted hisarm about it. Which, by the way, isrude. So, yeah, buy me a $50,000engagement ring. Now. Go. I mean, who does that? The girls at Berry do.
Anyway, my question is: How canI squelch the nauseated sensation thatovercomes me when I espy one of thesedemanding bling queens?

The Wide World of Gaming
The evolution of video games began in 1947 when two inventors, Thomas T. Goldsmith, Jr. and Estle Ray Mann, led for a U.S. patent for a
"cathode ray tube amusement device. Since then, the pastime that has been dubbed simply as gaming has developed through the century,
gaining steam as interactive computer games, arcade games and now in private homes on game consoles like a PlayStation or Xbox. The pro -grams themselves have developed likewise, moving from the simple table-tennis premise of Pong, to action-adventure games like The Prisoner
of Zelda, to the newest sensation in the gaming community, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Heres a closer look at the gaming community of
Berry College and the game thats become a cultural phenomenon.
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is the fth video game in a series of
action/adventure RPG video games set in the ctional continent
of Tamriel.
The game takes place two hundred years after the events of thefourth installment in the series, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.
The High King of Skyrim, a province within Tamriel, has been
assassinated and civil war threatens the region. This strife is the
nal straw in fullling the prophecy stated in the Elder Scrolls
foretelling the return of dragons to the land under Alduin, the
god of destruction. Continuing the trademark of the Elder Scrolls
series, Skyrim allows players to embark upon the game's main
quest or to explore the land of their own free will.
Skyrim Basics
According to Gamespot, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim sold 3.5 million
copies within 48 hours of its release.
Within the rst week, Skyrim's sales reached approximately $450 million.
During the rst day of release, nearly 230,000 people played Skyrim
simultaneously.
Skyrim is the fastest selling game to date on Steam's online gaming plat-
form.
Skyrim is the winner of Raptr.com's "Most Played Game of 2011."
According to USA Today, the average Skyrim player clocked 2.92 hoursof playtime per sitting.

The rst of the four biggest events in the tennis world, the Australian Open, is drawing close to one of the worlds
biggest matches: Nadal vs. Federer. In professional tennis, there are four annual Grand
Slam Major tennis tournaments: the French Open, the U.S.Open, the Australian Open and Wimbledon (London). These major tournaments are the four most important ten-nis tournaments in the world in terms of ranking, strengthand size of player pool, prize money and prize prestige, and ultimately universal attention. Earning a GrandSlam is winning each of the four titles in a single year.
Only ve men and nine women have managed toachieve a career Grand Slam in singles. Only two men,Rod Laver and Andre Agassi, and ve women, Serena Wil -liams, Chris Evert, Martina Navratilova, Margaret Courtand Stef Graf, have claimed the Grand Slam at the sin-gles position since the beginning of the Open Era. TheOpen Era, which started in 1968, marked the beginningof the allowance of professional players to compete in theMajor tournaments.
Chronologically, Wimbledon is the oldest of the Majors, and was founded in 1877. The U.S. Open in 1881, the
French Open in 1891 and the Australian Open in 1905 fol-lowed Wimbledon.
Wimbledon is played on grass court, the French openon clay, and both the U.S. and Australian Opens played onhard court. The Australian Open is the rst of the year in
January. The French Open is from late May to early June.Wimbledon follows a month later in from late June toearly July, and the U.S. Open is the last of the year, playedfrom late August to early September. The Opens includematches such as mens and womens singles and doubles,
mixed doubles, junior boys and girls singles and doublesand even wheelchair matches.
In the recent generations of the Grand Slam tourna-ments, the most heated rivalry in tennis has become therivalry of Roger Federer and Raphael Nadal. Federer, a30-year-old from Switzerland, has earned 70 total titles, 16of them Grand Slam titles. Raphael Nadal, who is 25 andfrom Spain, has claimed 36 Association of Tennis Profes-sionals (ATP) titles and 10 Grand Slam titles. The pair have
battled each other for rst and second for most of 2005 to2010, and have ceaselessly been a thorn in each otherssides for the big title.
The Roger Federer versus Nadal game has been such a
huge [match] for years. I can remember turning on the tele-vision watching tennis just to watch that particular gamewhen it was played because it was so intense, freshman
Josh Rubin said. Nadal and Federer are denitely two ofthe greatest players in the history of tennis two of themost substantial athletes in the world.
This years Australian Open will include the Federer-
Nadal clash once again, with the two playing each other inthe semi-nals Thursday, January 26 at 3:30 p.m.
Id obviously like to play Rafa because of our great, epic match earlier in the nals here a few years ago,Federer said, according to ESPN. Id like to get a chanceto play him here again.
In the bracket of the of mens semi-nals, defendingchampion and top-ranked Novak Djokovic, the 24 year-old Serbian, will face 24-year-old Brit Andy Murray. Theirgame will commence Friday, Jan. 27 at 3:30 p.m.
While there is much hype around the Djokovic-Murraygame, the Federer-Nadal game has drawn more worldwideattention, since Federer and Nadal are an older rivalry.
I will enjoy it from my couch. Theyre two out of fouror ve of the greatest players to play this game; theyve
been so dominant, Djokovic said in regards to the Federer-Nadal matchup, according to ESPN. Every time they playits a treat. Im going to have a nice dinner at home and
watch them.In womens singles, defending champion Kim Clijstersof Belgium will face Victoria Azarenka from Belarus. TheRussian Maria Sharapova will match with second-rankedPatra Kvitova from the Czech Republic.
Only one Williams sister, Serena, entered the Austra-lian Open, and was knocked out by Russian EkaterinaMakarova. There are no remaining U.S. players in the Aus-tralian Open.
The winners of each mens semi-nal match will faceeach other Sunday, Jan. 29 at 3:30 p.m.
