Carroll Creek Communicator Dear CCMPCS Community, Our third quarter will end next week. As we progress into the final quarter of the school year, it is important to continue with strong and consistent support of your child’s education. Our approach for the fourth quarter remains consistent with our goals for early on in the school year. We will continue with our high expectations for student growth and achieve- ment. We will work to ensure every child continues to suc- ceed at Montessori works and show growth and improve- ment. We have five basic goals in the Montessori environ- ment: to awaken the child’s spirit of learning; to encourage independence; to develop kindness, courtesy, and self- discipline; to help children to explore and question; and to foster a love of learning. Remember that we are all here for the same purpose (the success of each and every child.) In an effort to remain a vi- brant community of children, parents and educators, we must continue to value and work toward mutual trust through positive and productive dialogue. The only way this happens is if we continue to remain partners in education and value the collaborative spirit of community. As always, if you ever have a concern or need anything please do not hesitate to contact the school. School News: April is Month of the Young Child at CCMPCS. We will celebrate children’s talents, hobbies, and interests during our Morning TV program. If your child has a talent, hobby, or interest that they would like to showcase on the program, please contact [email protected]. She will work to schedule your child as a special guest or do recordings for later broadcast- ing. I encourage all our parents to inspire their children to participate! This activity is an opportunity to build strong self-confidence for kids. In an effort to continue to improve the safety for our chil- dren during drop-off, please continue to utilize the car line or our front entrance. Dear CCMPCS Community,

Our third quarter will end next week. As we progress into the final quarter of the school year, it is important to continue with strong and consistent support of your child’s education. Our approach for the fourth quarter remains consistent with

our goals for early on in the school year. We will continue with our high expectations for student growth and achieve-ment. We will work to ensure every child continues to suc-ceed at Montessori works and show growth and improve-ment. We have five basic goals in the Montessori environ-ment: to awaken the child’s spirit of learning; to encourage independence; to develop kindness, courtesy, and self-discipline; to help children to explore and question; and to foster a love of learning.

The only way this happens is if we continue to remain partners in education and value the collaborative spirit of community. As always, if you ever have a concern or need anything please do not hesitate to contact the school.

Principal’s News

I would like to introduce an exciting new event coming to CCM, Community Coffees. These relaxed, conversational “get-togethers” (with free coffee and snacks) provide a chance to discuss pretty much anything you want with the Governing Council and other school leaders in a non-formal setting. It is also just a great community builder to get to know some of the other parents at the school. The first one will be on Tuesday, April 9th from 6-7pm. This is immedi-ately before the April GC meeting, which begins at 7. Children may come to the event but, unfortunately, not to the GC meeting at 7pm. We are very open to discussing a time that would work better for the May Coffee. Please email Michael Beth at gcchair@carrollcreekmontessori. org with any questions.

Thank you,

classroom prior to 9:00am. After 9:00am, par-ents are not allowed to escort children to class-rooms, as this causes a disruption to the learn-ing environment. Also, for those of us who do park and come into the building, please remem-ber to check several times before pulling out of a parking space. We do not have sidewalks and many of our parents and children are walking through the lot during the high traffic time of arrival and dismissal. Always be patient and check your surroundings often before backing up!!!

We have some new upcoming fundraising op-portunities (you will receive more information soon), these are: Chuck E. Cheese: March 20th 3:00pm-9:00pm and Scholastic Book fair: April 22-26. Our goal is to utilize the collected money

at these events to improving our tot-lot. With the money we have raised so far, we have been able to purchase instructional materials, addi-tional Montessori materials, site licenses for en-richment and interventions, classroom supplies, and additional items to support our technology resources for student use.

Counseling Corner

Hi CCMPCS Families,

In my experience, kids seem to work the

hardest for those they love and respect.

The feeling of mutual respect is necessary when establishing a trusted relationship be-

tween two people, especially among an

adult and child. When dealing with difficult behaviors from our kids, remember ques-

tions create thinking... warnings, lectures and threats create resistance.

By simply asking, "Is this the right place for

that behavior?" creates thinking. "Stop that or you're going to have to leave!" creates

resistance.

A simple question can have an enormous impact.

Yours,

Deb Herbaugh

Counselor, CCMPCS

Painting with Poems, Paper, Hearts and Hands

Over the last few weeks, the children have con-tinued their exploration of color and paint in art class. The Lower Elementary classes have com-pleted a complimentary color design project. When hung together, these colorful works of art create a vibrant quilt of shape and pattern and a beautiful collaboration of many hearts and hands. All classes have practiced mixing tints and shades and have created monochromatic paint-ings. Our Lower Elementary children wrote po-ems about their favorite color as inspiration for their monochromatic paintings. All classes have also experimented with water colors and wet on wet painting techniques. We finish the quarter by creating textured and patterned papers with paint for a collage project inspired by Matisse.

In the fourth quarter we will explore sculpture. We will be using a variety of recyclables such as paper towel rolls, egg cartons and other materials to build armatures for papier mache projects. I would be grateful for any materials like these that you would like to donate!
