Sound Exchange Seeks Vintage Stereo EquipmentSubmitted

In preparation for Record StoreDay, an annual event that celebratesindependent record stores and seesthe release of hundreds of limitededition vinyl titles, Sound Exchangeis working to increase its inventory ofturntables. And the source for thecompany's used turntables is thesame as its source for all the otherused items in its stores: the public.

"Sound Exchange is a market-place," says Marketing Director andVinyl Buyer Erin Stoy. Whether it'sCDs, records, or stereo equipment, our goal is to buy people's unwanteditems and then put them in the handsof those who will enjoy them."

While music and movies must bein excellent condition for Sound Ex-change to buy them, there is moreleeway with the condition of vintagestereo equipment. Sound Exchangehas in-house repair services, which al-lows the company to buy certainequipment even if it isn't in workingorder. Good quality receivers, ampli-fiers, reel-to-reel players, and turnta-bles from the 1970s and early1980scan be repaired or - worst case - canoften be used for parts.

If you have vintage stereo gear sit-ting unused, consider cleaning out thatcloset and getting some cash in return.

And mark your calendars: RecordStore Day is Saturday, April 16.

Treemart employees do their verybest to accommodate the landscapingneeds of their customers, despite howsometimes unusual the request maybe. “We get requests for unusualpalms and plants that people just can’tfind. They see it on the internet or in a

magazine and we do our best to get itfor them,” Bailey said. “We buy fromnurseries all over the state so we willsee if we can get it. Unusual plantquestions are pretty common.”

Treemart is set up for the do-it-yourselfer who doesn’t want to hire alandscaper. “You can save a lot ofmoney putting plants in yourself,”

By Deborah Bostock-Kelley

For nearly 29 years, Treemart, lo-cated at 12505 N. Nebraska, has beenthe go-to landscape nursery for whole-sale and retail clients alike. With af-fordable plants, trees, palms, mulches, soil, fertilizer, accessories and gardenaccents, coupled with friendly, highlyexperienced employees, Treemartowners Scott and Valerie Bailey pridethemselves on providing everything ado-it-yourselfer or professional land-scaper could possibly need in one ex-pansive location.

“We have everything – tree-re-lated, of course,” said Scott Bailey.“We sell a lot of trees, palms, andplants of all sizes, from 1 gallon flow-ers, 3 gallon hedges, 7 gallon trees to15 gallons and all the way up. We haveall sizes of trees for landscape jobs.”

Bailey earned his degree in land-scape architecture and worked for alandscape design firm for a year beforedeciding to open Treemart. Althoughthe big box stores have forced many ofthe smaller garden centers to closetheir doors, with 5 acres of products,

Treemart is the largest garden centerin the area and both the Baileys andTreemart remain firmly rooted in theTampa Bay community.

Treemart moves a lot of materialwholesale so they feature many prod-ucts that works to the benefit of retail-ers. Bailey said, “The products turn -they don’t sit - so they are always arefresh. We bring in material from allover the state, as well as growing someat our 45 Acre tree farm in Pascocounty. I love the diversity of theproducts that we have. We get in un-usual things and we’ll order in spe-cialty items as well as having all yourbasic plants.”

The most common question Bai-ley and his team get asked is a recom-mendation for plants in the hot, muggy Tampa Bay climate. “All thesalespeople I have know plants andknow this business and what to rec-ommend. We tell people to bring inpictures. Everyone has a cell phonethese days. We tell them to take a pic-ture of the area they want to landscapeor the front of the whole house andwe’ll give advice on which plants work

Bailey said. “Our guys are good atteaching you how to do it.”

Sometimes, installing a large pur-chased tree is not something you cando on your own, which is whyTreemart is here to help. “We will in-stall the bigger trees and palms foryou, and you can do the smaller stuff

yourself,” said Bailey. Treemart also offers a convenient

Delivery/Set service for landscaperswho don’t have the time to get equip-ment to the job site, or if a tree orpalm is just too heavy for the cus-tomer’s equipment to lift. Treemarthas a fleet of five boom trucks and a

utility crane to assist the customer indeliveries and setting of trees andpalms in pre-dug holes or off loaded ata job site.

The only thing Treemart doesn’tdo is the actual landscaping. “Wedon’t do landscaping because wedon’t want to compete with our cus-tomers,” said Bailey. “We will defi-nitely make recommendations. Wehave so many wholesale landscapercustomers, that we’ll be glad to giveout numerous numbers to and recom-mend if retail customers want them. Our good landscaper customers - theones we know do a good job - we def-initely will recommend.”

A member of the Women’s Busi-ness Enterprise Florida, Elite RoofingServices is a women-owned commer-cial, industrial, and residential roofing

installer and supplier, specializing inroof maintenance and restoration. They are a Florida State Certified in-staller and provider of new and re-roofs of all types of roofing.

A recipient of the 2016 Women’sBusiness Enterprise Star award,Camille Austin founded Elite RoofingServices in 2004, during a very volatilehurricane season.

Only months into opening herbusiness, Austin found herself replac-ing roofs of 25 Denny’s throughoutsouthwest Florida. Soon after, theconstruction industry crashed in2007-2008, but Austin was able tosurvive and thrive through, focusingon smaller, bank owned jobs and rely-ing heavily on marketing.

But good marketing isn’t the onlypractice that makes the company standout among its peers. It’s a friendly atti-tude, the right experienced team han-dling the job, transparency, integrity, and outstanding service.

“We leave clients as friends,”said Austin. “Growing up in the

roofing industry, I got togrow with most of the work-ers and competitors as well asthe suppliers. I helped otherroofer friends open their ownroofing business, and when Iopened Elite, they helpedme. We always strive to dogood work and are very hon-est. We aim to provide clients withroofing solutions that correct thecause, not the effect.”

Austin stressed that there are sev-eral important items to mark off yourcontractor-hiring checklist before youmake a decision: only hire licensedcontractors, review the contract beforeyou sign it, make sure any requiredpermits are in place, know the FloridaConstruction Lien Law, and don’t payin cash.

Although these tips seem likesomething anyone would think to do,Austin explained that there are un-scrupulous businesses that will take ad-vantage of client naivety. “We had aclient who wanted to pay in full before

the job was even started,” she said.“It’s nice to want to trust someone, but avoid paying in advance and don’tpay for work not completed.”

Honest business practices and anexcellent reputation in the industry, coupled with great customer service, has helped Elite Roofing Services be-come a name positively recognizedthrough Tampa Bay and the entirewest coast of Florida.

With a dedicated and experi-enced service team, Elite RoofingServices has the ability to customizeand tailor client services. The com-pany repairs and installs new roofs forall kinds of residential, commercialand industrial properties. They alsoinstall weathertight metal roofs and

Creating edible works of art,Osaka Sushi & Grill brings a true tasteof Japanese culture to the Carroll-wood community! Located in thePalms of Carrollwood Shopping Cen-ter just south of Ehrlich Rd and DaleMabry Hwy., the best part is youdon’t have to travel far to enjoy someof the best sushi in Tampa Bay! How-ever, even if you do live a bit furtheraway, I can promise you, the food isdefinitely worth the drive!

Just over a month old, Osakaopened it’s doors to customers for thefirst time this past February, and sincethen has already experienced an over-whelming response from the commu-nity. Guests truly appreciate theexceptional dining experience anduniquely authentic food that OsakaSushi & Grill has to offer!

Family owned and operated, owner Xing Lin has done an extraordi-nary job of bringing his families’recipes to life. “We want to share ourlove of food with the Carrollwoodcommunity,” says Xing. “We want toprovide our customers with the bestsushi experience.”

Taking a look at the menu atOsaka, you are sure to be impressed.Offering so much more than just sushi

– although their sushi menu is ab-solutely fantastic – Osaka offers a fu-sion of Japanese-Americanmasterpieces for every taste and palate.Quite often when you have a group ofpeople, there are one or two guestswho don’t like or have never triedsushi. Because of this, they strive tooffer many options, so people in yourparty aren’t feeling left with only sushito choose from. Xing says, “We aremore than just a sushi restaurant. Yes,we do have exceptional sushi, but forthose who are looking for somethingdifferent we have a variety of other op-tions, like steak and seafood. Our PanAtlantic Salmon topped with mangosalsa is really good, although my fa-vorite is the Grilled New ZealandLamb Chop.”

However, after seeing some of thespectacular sushi rolls, even if youaren’t a fan of sushi I have a feelingyou might change your mind. Osakahas so many different rolls to choosefrom, including those that even thepickiest of palates can enjoy! So even ifyou think you might not like sushi, Ican almost guarantee you will findsomething that you’ll love.

“The freshness of the food andonly using quality ingredients is most

important,” says Xing. “Our chefs be-lieve in the food they prepare. Theydon’t make anything that they them-selves wouldn’t eat.”

Seeing as how sushi is their spe-cialty, I couldn’t leave without trying acouple rolls. Xing graciously had a fewrolls prepared as I eagerly waited withanticipation. When the platter cameout I was mesmerized. Featuring a

colorful array of three different sushirolls - the Out of Control, Sexy Ladyand White Hot - the presentationalone was incredible! The sushi lookedalmost too pretty to eat - almost!

Now comes the best part - tryingthe sushi! With a zing of fire - thanksto the jalapeño & miso sauce topping- the White Hot Roll, featuring spicycrunchy yellowtail, salmon, white fish

inside and seared white tuna on top, issure to satisfy.

A generously large portion size, each piece of the Sexy Lady Roll is al-most too big to eat in one bite. Thisroll is characterized by the subtlesweetness of the mango, which is ac-

companied by lob-ster, asparagus, spicy tuna and avo-cado and perfectlycomplemented bythe spicy mayo andmango sauce that islayered a top.

Ignite yourtaste buds with anexplosion of flavoras you take a bite ofthe Out of ControlRoll, which com-bines tuna, yellow-tail, salmon, avocado and aspara-gus on the inside

before being topped w seared tuna, yellowtail, salmon, caviar and a spicymayo citrus sauce and eel sauce. Myfavorite of the three, and one of themost popular rolls at Osaka, I highlyrecommend you try this roll on your

next visit! A great accompaniment to their

sushi - Osaka also serves beer, wineand sake, that can be expertly pairedwith anything on the menu.

“I have tried every sushi restau-rant in the area and I can honestly sayour sushi is the best,” says Xing.“From the freshness to the presenta-tion to the sauces, I think we providethe overall best experience. We createall of our own sauces. Each roll has it’sown unique sauce.”

Carrollwood to know Brunchies as agood brunch spot. A visitor from Ari-zona called Brunchies her go-tobrunch spot when she’s in Tampa.

Kranich said his quality of foodand expansive menu separates himfrom other breakfast and lunchrestaurants. He also has the ability toaccommodate his guests’ gluten-freemeal restrictions. “Pretty much any-thing on the menu we can makegluten-free,” said Kranich. “We alsodo gluten-free bread.”

And when Kranich says “make,”he actually means make. Every tastymorsel is made by hand in thekitchen by the talented chefs whotake pleasure in creating beautiful, delicious food.

When asked if there were menuitems that regulars would identifystrictly as Brunchies’, Kranich said,“The Blueberry Crunch Cakes are oursignature item.”

This customer-favorite is a stackof homemade grilled granola pancakestopped with syrup and a dollop ofwhipped butter. Guests can even sub-stitute organic wheat batter on any

pancake order and indulge in puremaple syrup or order sugar-free syrupto meet dietary restrictions.

The low-fat Goddess Omelet isanother Brunchies original. A dietlovers’ dream, the three egg omelet isfilled with fresh organic spinach, dicedtomatoes, and crumbled feta cheese, paired with oven-roasted potatoes, and an English muffin. Guests havethe option of substituting grits or fresh

tomatoes for the potatoes as well.A new addition to the extensive

Brunchies menu and a favorite ofBrunchies Manager and Kranich’sstepson Michael Klesyk, is their GuavaStuffed French Toast. In this delec-table dish, guava cream cheese getsstuffed inside challah french toastcoated in crushed corn flakes toppedbefore being topped with fresh straw-berries and slivered almonds.

“It’s really good. It’s somethingyou don’t taste often. It’s a big por-tion, so come hungry,” Klesyk said.

Kranich stressed that everythingon the menu was made by hand in therestaurant. He said, “We do all ourbatters in house. We cure our ownsalmon, make our own corned beefhash and our own chorizo. I’ve seenour competitors, and when you havepoor food quality coming in the back
