The President’s MessageI would like to thank lastmonth’s guest speakerBob Nylen for steppingin at the last minute tohelp, and giving a veryenjoyable presentation.
He donated a wonderful prize for ourraffle. Congrats to Beverly for winningthat great prize. Also to Tom Mezzetta, who is doing a great job getting veryinteresting and informative guestspeakers for our meetings. Thanks Tom.
By the time you read this we willhave had Safe Street. I want to thank allthat helped with candy, money, their
time handing out candy, or decoratingour booth. We were able, thanks to avery generous membership, to buy $200in candy and put over $70 in thetreasury. I applaud you all.
I encourage you all to share yourmembership in this fine group with yourfriends and family. We are very lucky tohave some new members and I encourageeven the very newest member to becomeinvolved in the workings of your club.We need people who would like to serveon the board. Please contact myself orother board members. We will give youall the tools needed to do the jobs.
By the way, Tom Mezzetta won thefirst gift last meeting. I guess Betty doesput his tickets in after all. His comment,“you must have missed one, Betty.”When will he learn Betty is as good asgold and very honest. We have a greattime at our meetings. Make sure to joinus for our last dinner meeting of the year.
TO BIGGER AND BETTERFOOTPRINTS.
Claudia
From the Secretary-TreasurerOur attendance was up for ourlast dinner meeting at theCarson Nugget. After twomeetings with attendance inthe 40s, last month we had 55in attendance. Hopefully, our
numbers are on the upswing!!
As I write this column, we are 1/3 of theway through our association year and we haveonly added 2 new members during that period. In the past 5 years, we have lost, for a varietyof reasons, an average of 22.4 members per year.It goes without saying that in order to keepeven, we need to sign up at least that manynew members every year. It would behoove usto step up our recruiting efforts.
We recently learned that another of ourmembers has died. Twelve-year member RayPeterson passed away on October 1, 2009from cancer. He was a Chief Quartermaster inthe U.S. Navy during World War II, and mostrecently was a part-time bartender at theCarson Valley Inn. Some of you mightremember him as the gentleman with the wavygray hair that always wore his Footprinters golf
shirt when he dispensed our beverages at ourdinner meetings. Ray was 88 years old.
At the risk of repeating myself, I am stillsoliciting my replacement as Chapter Secretary-Treasurer. I’ve done this job for 10 years, and Ithink it’s time for a change. If anyone is con-sidering it, please contact me – I’d be happy togo over the job description, files, records, etc.that have to be managed. Think about it...
The December get-together for our chaptertraditionally has been a potluck at the Hoytresidence. This year, it will be scheduled forSunday, December 13, 2009, starting about2PM. No business will be conducted and noPot of Gold, just a social gathering with foodand beverage. Bring your favorite finger food orwhatever, and come and socialize with friends.
Directions to our house will appear in nextmonth’s newsletter.
See you at the November dinner.

From the 1st Vice PresidentChief Probation Officer Doug Swalm willspeak to our group on November 19th. Oneof Doug’s duties is overseeing thoseindividuals convicted of a crime that meets
certain criteria for a sentence of “House Arrest”. In thosecases, Doug is responsible for seeing to it that they obey theconditions of said sentencing, which could include remainingat home, abstaining from alcohol and drugs andunannounced search and seizure.
Doug will be demonstrating one of the tools he uses toaccomplish this overwhelming task, electronic monitoring. With this gadget, Doug can track the location of aprobationer and even take a breath test over the telephone todetect the presence of alcohol. Very high tech, veryinteresting.
Please join us on November 19th at the Carson Valley Inn.
