BUHAI is located in the municipality of Tobias Fornier, Province of Antique
It is composed of 50 barangays, of which 15 are along the coast
Total Population is 27,331
Classified as 4th class municipality with a total annual income of P27Million
PROVINCE OF ANTIQUE
BUHAI has a livelihood center in Brgy. Diclum, 2.5 kilometers away from Poblacion
The major source of income is fishing and rainfed farming
Hatweaving is one of the sources of income of residents
Before the project, we only produce ordinary hats at P5.00/hat with an average production of 20 hats per week or a monthly income of P200.00
In 2001, Antique Development Foundation (ADF) is looking for supplier of buri hats for their buyers
Fortunately, they come to Diclum for possible source of Buri hats
Then series of consultations were made and different needs of weavers were identified
ADF proposed to PACAP for possible assistance BUHAI was registered with the Securities and Exchange
Commission last September 2001 Total membership from 15 to 60 which comes from the 4
adjacent barangays Because of the active involvement of BUHAI in buri
production it was chosen as the “one town one product (OTOP)”
Self sufficient buri weavers enjoying the benefits of their labor, actively participating in development activities while protecting and conserving the resource base for a united, peaceful and God loving community
To develop the weavers towards improved product quality
To protect buri as a major source of raw materials
To actively participate in various development endeavors
To promote and market products To network with agencies both government
and private for technical and financial assistance
ADF directly links with PACAP for funding assistance
ADF provides direct assistance to BUHAI such as trainings, marketing and finance
From time to time, PACAP with ADF will come to BUHAI for monitoring and consultation

BUHAI now able to meet volume orders
Increase in volume production (target volume)
Installed and operationalized development systems such as marketing systems operations
improved financial system in inventory control, cash management, receivable mgt., financial report systems
procured basic support facilities and equipment such as typewriter, camera, cell phone, sewing machines, cabinets
BUHAI as an organization has participated in local fairs such as the Pasundayag Festival during the Annual Binirayan Festival, municipal fairs and National Trade Fair
Has one regular buyer for gift bags from Manila
Products are sold in OTOP Center of the Province , ADF marketing Center, and other outlets

The project revived “buri” industry hence was considered as an OTOP
There is a need to care for our buyers for a longer relatioship
There is an increase awareness to protect buri because it is the source of raw materials
The series of trainings and other capability building activities helped BUHAI continue its operation
With the crisis, there is a need to develop relationship with existing buyers
To be competitive, we need to improve our products that are within the trends and designs
We need to gather market information so we can use it in our operations
