Executive Summary

The Problem

FEG engaged with Banyan as a trusted

partner and work began immediately for setting up the existing solution for

deployment within Australia.

Banyan Hills Technologies (Banyan) and Franchise Entertainment Group (FEG) have a strong, solid partnership. We’ve been

together since the start of Banyan. We set up a DVD rental kiosk solution for deployment within Australia and customized the

solution for their market, integrated new EMV-compliant hardware and gateway for payments, set up the supporting

infrastructure, and trained the FEG team on how to run a kiosk-based solution. Today our IoT platform CanopyTM, is the backbone

of their business enabling FEG to monitor, manage and operate their entire network of rental kiosks.

FEG operated a set of franchised, movie rental brick-and-mortar stores. They realized that

the future of movie renting in Australia would quickly follow the shift happening in the

United States, moving away from brick-and-mortar to the kiosk-based business model.

After acquiring a set of surplus kiosks in the United States after the RedBox buyout of NCR’s

Blockbuster Express unit, the FEG team needed to engage with an organization that could

deploy, manage, monitor, and operate the necessary software and infrastructure required

to deploy such a solution.

customers to reserve movies online or from their

mobile device.

ENHANCED KIOSK MONITORING CAPABILITIES

With Canopy, FEG can manage their kiosks, customers, inventory, and

transactions through a personalized online portal. Canopy provides reporting for

corporate and franchisee personnel. FEG can remotely monitor and manage their

fleet of kiosks to detect hardware, software or network failures and resolved

issues to prevent revenue decline and maintain customer satisfaction. Canopy

allows operators to run remote software updates on the kiosks to ensure the

fleet is always up to date and consistent with the latest versions of code.

Future Plans

Next up

Canopy will continue to serve as the primary IoT platform for the FEG to help monitor, manage and monetize their network of

kiosks. New features like an integrated incident management solution for all customer, partner and kiosk issues that arise will

provide full visibility into any issues that are being tracked for the network of kiosks in one central location.

Future Plans

FEG will be able to leverage Canopy’s expanding feature set including

predictive analytics. This will allow them to diagnose and investigate the

possibility of a failure before it occurs and take proactive measures to

remedy the situation. Other features like, campaign management will

allow them to target their customer base with relevant marketing

material, advertising and promotions utilizing the secondary display on

the kiosk to drive new revenue and increase customer loyalty.
