Cloud FastPath: Case Study Changing Clouds At An All-Remote Company

An Upgraded Cloud For A Growing Organization

3D Results is a Human Capital Management company that provides strategic and implementation services for SAP SuccessFactors. All of the company’s employees work remotely – there is no brick & mortar headquarters. That’s why an online, collaborative environment is critical for keeping team members connected and productive.

Over the last three years, the company has grown substantially, from 40 people to 100. As a result, the company decided to make a change from Dropbox to ShareFile, where administrators have more control over internal and external file access.

That’s where CJ Kuhn came in. As the person responsible for sales & services enablement for this rapidly growing team, CJ had to make the migration a successful one.

The migration would cover about 500GB of data. CJ was dreading the manual work that would be required and the potential for file corruption or disorganization. Then, she received a game-changing suggestion from her Citrix ShareFile rep.

Cloud FastPath: Automating Everything CJ’s ShareFile rep introduced her to Cloud FastPath, a simple, fast and secure way to move all that data from multiple Dropbox accounts into her new ShareFile tree. Cloud FastPath completely automated the process, coordinating the timing of the move, ongoing sync, folder structures and everything else. Plus, it operated 5-50 times faster than other solutions.

After the initial migration produced only 200GB of data in ShareFile, it became clear that 60% of the expected files were not actually in the corporate instance, but instead in individuals’ Dropbox accounts. As much of this data as possible needed to be extracted from Dropbox accounts and housed under a single hierarchy on Sharefile.

What’s more, this discovery was made on the Friday before a holiday weekend.

Luckily, the Cloud FastPath support team jumped in to help. They set up another migration job and stayed in close contact with CJ all weekend, because they knew this was an important date to hit. Everything completed smoothly and on time. CJ estimates that the migration would have taken 3-5 days of her time. Instead, Cloud FastPath did almost all the work for her, and she was able to finish things up with a new directory structure that put all the files in the right places for the 3D Results team.

REMOTE ON THE RISE

The U.S. Census Bureau’s annual American Community Survey revealed interesting facts about remote workers.

• Telecommuters make up 2.6% of the American workforce

• The typical telecommuter is a 49-year-old college graduate

• Home-based employees are 13% more productive than office staff.

• Quitting rates are cut in half

How Cloud FastPath Migrated 3D Results’ Data Cloud FastPath is designed to be easy, making migrations to the cloud a breeze. After creating an account on the Cloud FastPath website, all that was needed were a few simple steps:

1. Connect to Dropbox accounts. Pre-configured settings for popular services make it simple to connect to multiple Dropbox accounts.

2. Connect to ShareFile. Next, select your destination service. In this case, you can log into your Citrix ShareFile account.

3. Select the files and schedule the migration. No data chunking, no moving everything to a single directory first – Cloud FastPath takes the data in its current form from where it resides today.

4. Sync, monitor and report. Cloud FastPath handles everything, no matter where it sits or what errors are encountered along the way. Sync features allow for easy error retry and delta capture.

Cloud FastPath To The Rescue With 100 remote employees relying on CJ to get 3D Results’ new ShareFile system in place, the pressure was on to get things right. Furthermore, she had neither an IT background and little experience dealing with file-based infrastructure, so this 500GB migration could have been particularly risky and difficult.

Fortunately, with Cloud FastPath, 3D Results was able to finish everything on time for employees to start using ShareFile after the holiday weekend. Cloud FastPath was the key to making the migration simple, fast, and secure.

“The Cloud FastPath software did exactly what it was supposed to do and the team even helped me anticipate problems before they became problems. I don’t

know how I would’ve met my deadlines without Cloud FastPath.” – CJ Kuhn, 3D Results
