CASE STUDYDuctwork & Flue Cleaning

CHALLENGEHVDS Engineers were asked to perform a deep clean of the ductwork and flue extraction system on this large UK food manufacturing site.

Upon arrival, it became quite clear that what should have been a standard cleaning project, was in fact much more alarming.

The extraction systems were severely soiled with grease, carbon and foreign matter coating all of the internal surfaces, as well as oil and residue spooling on the ceiling around the ducting. In some areas the ingress of extracted product reached a depth of 3 inches or more.

After further investigation, the HVDS engineers found obvious signs that the ductwork had been neglected, and it was questionable as to whether it would be salvageable after cleaning.

SOLUTION

Our trained cleaning engineers carefully removed the access doors to gain sufficient entry to the ductwork to allow access for cleaning. However, with a factory of this scale the ductwork had been intricately designed with a number of 90 degree angles and connection components that had to be temporarily removed to gain access for cleaning.

The grease & carbon ingress was removed using scrapers, brushes and vacuums. In total, around 10 gallons of fluid grease and foreign matter was removed from the ductwork and extraction flue system.

Removing the ingress from inside the ductwork proved to be exceptionally challenging and overall the cleaning project took almost five working days to complete. Thanks to the experience of the HVDS trained engineers, the ductwork was reinstated to a hygienic and fully operational state.
