Scott Rawlings of Ankers and Rawlings Developments in Dorset was already sold on the benefits of using TLX multi-foil insulation when it came to the re-roofing of his own 100 year old five bedroom detached home in Poole. Having used TLX Silver previously on several business projects, Scott was pleased to find that he could deliver an insulation upgrade using Web Dynamics’ TLX Gold - an over the rafters solution installed from the outside.

The roofing installation, by John James Roofing, saw 70mm PIR between rafters with TLX Gold installed over rafters and 25 x 38mm battens and counter battens on top – delivering a neat and speedy insulation upgrade.

What was specified?

More than 330 square metres of TLX Gold, a combined multi-foil insulation and breather membrane was installed.

However when I came across TLX Gold it was clear that this was a better product for this particular application as it can be installed easily from the outside of a building. There were no problems at all with the installation – it was an easy and quick product to use. It also presented no difference in cost in the installation which is an important point to make.”

Hess Kincaid Leach Associates of Ceredigion, Wales undertakes projects in the UK and France and its work focuses on the renovation and re-use of traditional buildings often working with environmentally aware materials.

When a job to replace a few slates at its head office became a completed re-roof with the need for a vapour barrier architect Christopher Hess contacted Web Dynamics for advice and a potential solution.

Finding that Web Dynamics had launched a new multi-foil that managed his problems was just the solution he had been hoping for.

What was specified?

Web Dynamics’ two-in-one product TLX Gold - the world’s first breathable multi-foil and roofing membrane was specified. Having already used the TLX range in a number of installations Chris quickly recognised the benefits to be gained from installing the combined breathable multi-foil insulation with breathable roofing membrane.

TLX Gold can be used above or below rafters and in this instance was installed with existing insulation, already in place between rafters. TLX Gold was then applied over rafters with counter battens prior to tiling battens and tiles.

Chris said:” It was easy to use and we encountered no problems during installation. Ultimately it got us around a tricky situation that we had encountered. TLX Gold has met all our expectations and more and we have ended up with a much improved roofing solution than we originally set out to achieve.”



Case study: Keeping it on the level

Access Builders of Manchester chose TLX Gold for the re-roof of a 1930s semi-detached house and extension, to meet Building Regulations' rule that where 25 percent or more of a roof is being renovated, the thermal performance must be upgraded. The project was a complex roof and involved multiple roof lines and gulleys and it was important that the roof line wasn't altered.

What was specified?:

TLX Gold is a unique two-in-one multi-foil and roofing membrane which delivers a less intrusive energy improvement. It is installed in the same way as standard roofing tile underlay and in this instance was specified to ensure the roofing line of property didn’t alter.

Case study: Rock solid answer for Gibraltar housing project Combined breathable multi-foil insulation and roofing underlay Removes condensation risk* Maintains roofing line Provides an improved insulation solution with minimal disturbance

A range of flats at Mimosa Lodge, Montagu Gardens in Westside Gibraltar required a sympathetic renovation of their external facade to ensure occupants received the minimal disturbance during the work.

As part of the housing refurbishment project, commissioned by the Government of Gibraltar, the properties were to have an insulation upgrade to improve their thermal efficiency. Mimosa Lodge is the first of 21 residential blocks to be renovated in a project that is likely to run until 2012.

What was specified?

Approximately 3,600 square metres of TLX Gold was installed in the initial refurbishment. The re-roofing included the removal of the existing roof, the installation of TLX Gold over plywood with a Metrotile composite light gauge steel mineral covered tile

TLX Gold has helped deliver a thermal performance upgrade to the existing roof with no condensation risk. The product enabled the roof line of the property to be maintained and was less invasive to install as no access was required to the loft space during installation.

Alex Walker, technical adviser to the project said: “TLX multi-foils are the only roof insulation we are using on this project. The product has been easy to handle, work with and install. With part of the project finished last winter some residents have already seen a noticeable difference in the thermal performance of their properties, reporting them warmer since the work was completed”.

HG Edwards Construction needed a weather tight solution for a ten bedroom barn conversion in South Wales which would enable its building team to continue with a barn conversion project throughout the winter.

What was specified?:

More than 300 sqm of TLX Gold, a combined multi-foil insulation and breather membrane was specified and met with Building Control approval – delivering the required solution in four days.
