Aerogel Composite Improves U-Value of Barrel Vault Ceiling Floor to ceiling height conserved in museum CASE STUDY Location: Imperial War Museum, London Fabrication Partner: The Proctor Group Provide ceiling insulation for Barrel Vault area of Imperial War Museum in London. This area was overheating in the summer and very cold in the winter. Improve u-value to below 0.2W/m2K, while not reducing the floor to ceiling height. The Proctor Group installed 20 mm of its Spacetherm blanket insulation on the ceiling. Spacetherm is a composite of Spaceloft ® insulation and fibrous matting. It has a thermal conductivity of only 0.013W/mk, enabling high thermal performance in a thin, flexible blanket. Spacetherm achieved a u-value of 0.18W/m2K, which exceeded the specification. Spacetherm’s 20 mm thickness barely reduced the floor to ceiling height. Provide ceiling insulation for Barrel Vault area of Imperial War Museum in London. This area was overheating in the summer and very cold in the winter.Improve u-value to below 0.2W/m2K, while not reducing the floor to ceiling height.
