Cottages are located near the river front capturing view of the river. No. of cottages : 4 , Dormitories : 2 Capacity of dormitory : 10 persons Cafeteria has sitti ng area , kitchen, Utility area. In front of cafeteria there is a small book library with outdoor reading plaza. Service room is located near art centre which houses both electricity control room, generator room and water purification plant.  Location :  Jhaspur , Badoda , Gujrat. Latitude : 22o 18’19.0” Longitude : 73o3’23.4” Distance from Badoda city : 25km About the project: To promote the art and craft, the industrialist of Badoda Mr.Rakesh Aggrawal masterminded this centre and designed by Ar. Karan Grover. Its an ‘art village’ which provides working space and accomodation for visiting international and indian artists . Site Area : 80 acers Built Up Area : 1420 sqm Selection criteria : T o understand activities performed and facilities provided in the centre to train students / artisans. T o study the connectivity of different spaces and their relation with the surrounding. T o understand the method of creating art and study of equipments and space required for that particular activity. Concept : “ Returning to the theme of domestic architecture ”. Domestic architecture : Badoda the ‘Culutural Capital’ of Gujrat has its own style of architecture i.e. indo saracenic style and brick architecture. Architectural features:

A slight historical reference i.e. use of someelements of style of Badoda i.e.Indo saracenicarchitecture and brick architecture.

Indo saracenic architecture: 

a fusion of western spatial organisation indianmaterials and decorativemotifs inspired by

gothic,hindu,islamic,buddhist and ottmanarchitecture.

Elements used are wooden balconies,arcades,brackets, door , use of jalis, courtyard

planning ,painted chattai window frames etc.

Reuse of wooden balconieswhich

removed from old havelisbeing

demolised in that region.

Jalis and courtyards provide cool air and light totheinterior.Playful geometrical patterns are used to enliven

the jali.Sophisticated use of brick.Ceramic tiles add decorative

detail.Bricks specially cut and of a

particular dimensioncreate a dynamicpattern.

Jali also helps to actas ventilator in toiletwithout visualdisturbance.

Use of local red brick from Ghodra.Brick with its linearity,texture and colour

expresses
