Newsletter Issue No 18 Term 4, November 15, 2019

Principal’s Message - Neil Schneider

Casino High School continues to be in examination mode.

The HSC Examinations concluded last Monday with a sigh of

relief from our Year 12 students. The junior years are now

sitting their yearly examinations in some subjects. In the

coming weeks teachers will be very busy marking and

reporting results to all parents and carers.

The Year 12 Formal was held last night and I would like to

congratulate our Year 12 students on completing their HSC

and wish them all the best in the future on behalf of the

whole school community.

I was expecting a break from our talented sporting students

but this was not to be with our Open Girls Beach Volleyball

Team heading to Coffs Harbour on Tuesday 19th November

to compete in the next stage of the state knockout.

It is difficult to not feel anxious for many in our community

due to the affects of the horrendous bushfires, drought,

scarcity of water and now the difficulty in accessing fodder

for starving livestock.

Our resilient Casino community is looking to the sky for a

little help and hopefully when the rain comes it will come in

‘bucket fulls’.

Weight of the World

by Amy de Wit Year 9

The land didn’t get a drop,

No matter how much he prayed,

The government didn’t help,

Or give any aid,

Scott Morrison is too busy sending America to space,

But does he ever stop for a minute and think about his birthplace?

No, No, No

His livestock slowly dying, as he watched the hot sun set,

Another day without some rain, all he did was sweat,

For 60,000 years people have been relying on this land,

You could pick the grass, one by one each hand,

Sweeping plains as high on the fire risk level as fighter jets fly in the sky,

The drought cuts through the nation like a two-edged sword,

No one knows how hard they try, just to be ignored.

Misery, sorrow, gloom,

They have to spend their money on hay,

They have no time to talk about the weight of the world on their shoulders,

Their world comes crashing down, slower, slower and slower,

Negative thoughts fill their minds,

He can’t keep his farm going through these tough times,

He takes his shotgun down to paddock 9,

He shoots some roos and thinks about his life,

He thinks it would be so much better to not even be alive,

He slowly turns his gun around,

And hopes that it shoots fast,

But he pauses for a moment to think about his farm,

Generations and Generations have passed on this land,

They all kept it going through the hard times, no matter the demand,

He puts his gun back down again and slowly starts to cry,

He picks up his phone and dials up his wife,

He gets back in his pick up truck,

Drives down the dusty road back home,

He goes inside to hug his kids and kiss his wife goodnight,

There will always be someone to talk to no matter how hard the fight,

You are not alone and I know that I am right.

The Sunflower

by Payton Lotz Year 9

I had a dream

Where everything and everyone was enough

But then I woke up and knew it was a bluff

Was because things get rough and you need to sort through stuff and …..Huff

How can someone ever be enough?

There was a sunflower

She stood tall like that wall she had been trying to climb her whole life

And once her vibrant petals she had brawled had all fallen, was she then enough ?

Her smile she once wore confidently, got ripped to specks by her own mind

Will you say it was an accident?

An accident that this world she grew up in had taught her

That her stem that was beautifully shaped wasn’t tall enough, small enough now

Can you install that she was now dry hungry and nothing

She tried to reach that metal of being enough but it was so hard she just had enough

She felt as light as an elephant carrying the weight of the world

She curled into a ball as she hurled and swirled and reminded herself that she wasn’t enough…

Society can you hear

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!

Remembrance Day

Remembrance Day is observed annually on the 11th

November and marks the day that World War One ended

in 1918. We hold a one minute silence at 11am on the

11th day of the 11th month to remember those who

have died in any conflict.

Our SRC Presidents Blair Haynes and Tallulah Mohammed and Vice

Presidents Declan Ellis and Jesse Noll proudly represented Casino High

School at the Casino Remembrance Day Ceremony on Monday.
