Principal’s Message - Neil Schneider

Our new elective in Year 9 and Year 10 for talented sportspersons

has been a great success. In this program students undertake

advance fitness training, study healthy lifestyles, and undertake

appropriate training programmes for the sports in which they have

an interest or above average skills.

Again Casino High School has achieved outstanding results on the

sporting field. A number of our footballers have been selected in the

North Coast side to travel to Sydney to compete for State selection.

Faith Pittman recently won the U18’s Queensland Long Jump

Championships and it has been many years since a Casino High

School student has reached this level. We congratulate Faith and

wish her all the best as she travels to the NSW State Championships.

Faith is one of our talented students who has taken advantage of

our new elective Talented Athletes Program.

News article’s and photos showcasing these achievements have

been included in this newsletter for your interest.

Another successful program implemented this term is the Gifted

and Talented Year 6 to Year 7 Transition Strategy. This program

involves Year 6 students from our feeder schools who have been

eager to learn and engage in this new initiative.

On the academic front, Year 12 Half Yearly Reports and Awards are

being finalised and will be distributed before the end of term. The

expectation is that Year 12 students are back in classes and on task.

If they have gaps in their learning, which would have been

highlighted in their recent exams, they need to see their teacher

and or one of the school senior students for assistance.

An Intensive Literacy and Numeracy Program has commenced

at Casino High School. The aim is to improve the standard in these

important skills across all levels of ability. This program is across

Years 7 to 10 and we expect to see an improvement in our Naplan

and Minimum Standard test results.

The Year 10 to Year 11 subject selection process will begin early

next term and although this is a time consuming process, it is vital

to see students select subjects appropriate to their career

aspirations.

Representative Sport News

Last week we had number of students go and trial for the Northern Rivers Zone Opens and U15’s Boys Rugby

League teams.

Congratulations to Jaru Fraser, Tyrelle Roberts and Josh Stothard who were successful in gaining a spot in the

Open’s Zone team. Kirell Robinson, Jerome Sparke and Jaytan Baker were also successful in being selected for the

U15’s Zone team, congratulations. Both teams will compete at the Northern Rivers/Far North Coast Zone Trials at

Ballina this week, best of luck boys at the next level.

Congratulations to Elyce Richards who was selected in the Northern Rivers Open Girls Netball Team that competed

at the North Coast Trials in Yamba this week. Elyce is only 14 and it is a huge achievement to make an Opens team

at such a young age and compete competitively against older students. Well done Elyce!!

Congratulations are also in order for Jaru Fraser and Cory Townsend who have been selected in the North Coast

Open Boys Rugby Team to compete at the NSW State Championships in May at Sydney. The boys were selected

after attending the trials this week in Grafton. Well done boys!!!

Sporting Success Outside of School

We have a number of students who are achieving great things outside of school hours in their chosen sports. It is

fantastic to see our students excelling and representing at such a high level.

Congratulations to Faith Pittman who after competing at the QLD State Athletics

Championships recently was named the U18 State Champion for Long Jump.

This is a massive achievement for Faith especially given that she is only turning

16 this year and competed against older top ranking athletes.

Congratulations to Nicholas Pickett who won gold at the Sydney International Judo

Championships in the Special Needs category. Nicholas trains very hard and puts in

100% effort each time he takes to the Judo mat. This result has now qualified

Nicholas for the National Championships to be held in June at Carrara on the Gold

Coast . Well done Nicholas!!

Swimming Results

Northern Rivers Swimming Carnival

Casino High School had six students represent the school in Lismore at the Northern Rivers Swimming Carnival in

Lismore recently and they came away with some tremendous results. Indigo Creighton, Kalani Ellis, and Lorenzo

de Gregorio were awarded Northern Rivers Zone Age Champions. This is such a wonderful achievement and it is

great to see Casino High School students excelling in the pool not just in one specialist event but many events. The

following students went on to qualify for the North Coast Swimming Carnival at Murwillumbah:

Indigo Creighton - 200m Freestyle, 100m Freestyle, 100m Breaststroke, 100m Backstroke, 50m Freestyle, and

100m Butterfly

Kalani Ellis - 100m Freestyle, 100m Breaststroke, 100m Backstroke, 50m Freestyle, 100m Butterfly

Xailyn Ellis - 100m Freestyle, 100m Backstroke, 50m Freestyle, 100m Butterfly, 200m Individual Medley

Lorenzo de Gregorio - 100m Freestyle, 100m Breaststroke, 100m Backstroke, 50m Freestyle, 100m Butterfly,

200m Individual Medley

North Coast Swimming Carnival

The competition proved to be much tougher at the North Coast Swimming Carnival in Murwillumbah with students

from Tweed Heads to Port Macquarie competing. Xailyn Ellis was up against it in her age group with some top

quality swimmers but did herself and the school proud by finishing not far off the pace in the top five.

Congratulations to the following students for qualifying for multiple events at the State Championships to be held

in Sydney in early April:

Indigo Creighton - 5 events

Kalani Ellis - 3 events

Lorenzo de Gregorio - 4 events

We wish you all the best!!
