Slocan Valley EconomicDevelopment Commission UpdateTe RDCK’s Slocan Valley Economic Development

Commission has chosen four Slocan Valley organiza-tions to receive a combined $251,000 over two years fromthe Slocan Valley community directed fund. Te fund isa partnership between the RDCK and Columbia BasinTrust, who provided the money.

“We believe that funding these organizations will resultin long term and widespread benets to the Slocan Valley

community,” said Leah Main, chair of the Slocan Valleyeconomic development commission (EDC). “Te commis-sion engaged with the community extensively to determinehow valley residents wanted this funding used for theireconomic, social, cultural and environmental well-being.”

Te commission allocated $40,000 to the seniors’ hous-ing society project which plans to build long term hous-ing for elders in Slocan City. Te society’s committee willshare its knowledge and designs with other groups that

Tat giving can be expressed in manydifferent ways and doesn’t need to be limited to just oneday during the year. In your community you can look orspecial occasions that benet local charities – a Christ-mas concert where the proceeds go to supporting a localgroup, a community dinner perhaps and in this particu-

We know oseveral music students who will belling the halls with their music inseniors’ homes and extended careunits this month. Our commun-ities are loaded with many volun-

teers who give generously o theirtime in many different ways.

Tis is also the time o year whenpeople with surplus unds are look-ing or ways to make tax deductibledonations. Community Founda-tions are deliberately set up to re-ceive charitable donations to buildpermanent endowment unds thatbenet communities in perpetuity.

The Anderson Point Boat Launch will be closed from Monday, November 30 to Friday, December 18,

2015 as BC Hydro makes planned improvements. This closure is necessary to ensure the safety
