Te Regional District of Central Kootenay and theNelson Leafs Recycling Centre presented representa-tives from the Kootenay Lake Hospital Foundation witha cheque for $3,500. o date, the program has contributedover $46,000 to the KLH Foundation’s fundraising efforts.Donations represent prots from beverage containers col-lected at the Lakeside Drive Recycling Depot (formerlythe Nelson ransfer Station).

Te RDCK and the Nelson Leafs Recycling Centerhave partnered in the beverage container recycling pro-gram at the Nelson ransfer Station since 2010. Recyclingbins provide residents with a convenient place to recyclerefundable beverage containers while knowing that theprots from their donations are beneting the communitydirectly.

“Not only are we contributing to improving the services

of our local hospital, but we are also making beverage con-tainer recycling accessible, thus keeping recyclable mate-rials out of the landll,” stated Uli Wolf, General Managerof Environmental Services for the RDCK.

All refundable beverage containers are accepted in thebins at the Lakeside Drive Recycling Depot - sorting isnot required! Residents must place individual containersinto the bins; no bulk loads are accepted. Large volumesof containers are accepted at the Recycling Centre (BottleDepot) located at 120 Silica Street, Nelson.

In BC, approximately one billion beverage containersare recycled each year. Recycling saves energy, reducesgreenhouse gas emissions and relieves pressure on non-renewable resources.
