    Connecting Canada-WorldSuicide Prevention Day

On Wednesday, September 10, communities acrossCanada will come together to support those bereaved bysuicide, to remember and celebrate the lives of those whodied by suicide, to support those who struggle with living, and to renew our commitment to helping all Canadians

reconnect with their reasons to live while building liveswith dignity, purpose and meaning.

One World Connectedis the theme that International Asso-ciation for Suicide Prevention (IASP) has chosen for this yearsWorld Suicide Prevention Day. Bringing this theme home, theWest Kootenay/Boundary Suicide Prevention, Interventionand Postvention (PIP) Committee has committed to pro-moting Connecting Canada as the theme for WSPD. Beingconnected with oneself, with others and with a community iscritical to ones sense of hopefulness and well-being. Building

connections rises from the pillars of suicide prevention, inter-vention and postvention. On September 10 the local PIP com-mittee is inviting all people in the West Kootenay/Boundaryregion to come together to remember that we are all connectedto each other and join in a local kite ying ceremonies.

Te kite is the national symbol for World Suicide Preven-tion Day. Te connection we have through the string, tothe kite in the sky, represents our connection to the things

we strive to stay connected to hope, community, thosewe have lost, and those who struggle with thoughts of sui-cide. Te kite also reminds us of the importance of stayingconnected to ourselves to keep our feet on the ground andto sometimes put our heads in the clouds and dream, to beaware of ourselves, to feel our own importance and power,to care for and nurture ourselves, to have fun and play. OnSeptember 10 kite ying ceremonies will take place at:
