THE ADVANTAGES OF HIGH PRESSURE

Over the years, new pump technologies have been developed that use less water volume to achieve the same extinguishingcapacity. This minor flow rate when combined with the high pressure of membrane and piston pumps and the possibilityto combine them with small capacity tanks have resulted in the development of high pressure kits. High pressure pumpspermit an increase of the cooling capacity of water by creating a greater surface area and thermal absorption of thewater droplets. The great extinguishing power of the water is the result of its vaporization and expansion, which allowit to absorb great quantities of heat. The water becomes steam by applying heat of 573 Kcal (2395 Kjoule). A waterjet subdivided into small droplets in comparison to a full water jet absorbs more heat and transforms more quickly intosteam due to the increased surface area. The expansion rate of the water as it turns to steam increases the extinguishingcapacity of the water. 1 litre of water produces about 1700 litres of steam at a temperature of 100°C. As the temperatureis increased, the quantity of steam increases as well. In fact, at 260°C, 1 litre water becomes approximately 2400 litresof vapour and approximately 4200 litres at 650°C. The vapour extinguishes the fire by suffocation. The water dividedinto smaller parts occupies the space around the fire and displaced the oxygen that the fire needs for combustion. Thecondensed vapour helps knock down the gases, smoke and particles of combustion in closed rooms. A motor pumpoperating at 100, 150 and 170 bars produces a water mist 3 times larger than one produced by a motor pump at 40bars. The result is that with the same water volume, the piston motor pump doubles the extinguishing capacity andensures more security for the operator due the length of the water jet, direct or nebulized, is increased. With a directjet at 100 bar, it’s also possible to crumble incandescent cinders, to make operations of land reclamation and, mostimportant, to double the extinguishing capabilities at great height differences.A motor group can be equipped with a premixer, which mixes different types of foam additives, in order to deal firesthat need this kind of extinguishing. In order to use better the High pressure Kit, the Fireco mixing system allows theuse of various types of liquids (antifreeze, detergents, anticryptogamics etc.) allowing the kits can be used for variousapplications.

Im Laufe der Jahre wurden neue Technologien erfunden wobei das Feuer mit weniger Wasser gelöscht werden kannund mit dem Vorteil immer leichtere und kleinere Anlagen zu haben. Weniger Wasser Volumen, die Membran- oderKolben Hochdruck Pumpen und die Möglichkeit diese mit kleineren Tanken zu vereinigen, hat zur Herstellung von denHoch Druck Anlagen gebracht. Durch die Vergrößerung der thermischen Ausgleichsfläche der Wassertropfen, erhöhtsich die Abkühlungskapazität. Die große Löschungsfähigkeit des Wassers ist von dem Effekt der Verdampfung gegeben,die viel Hitze aufnehmen kann. Das Wasser braucht eine Hitze von 573 Kcal (2395 Kjoule) um Dampf zu werden. Mehrerekleinere Tropfen löschen besser das Feuer als ein kompakter Wasserstrahl, und verwandelt sich leichter in Dampf weilmehr freie Fläche an die Hitze kommt. In Nebel verwandelt, breitet sich das Wasser aus und erhöht die Löschungsfähigkeit.1 Liter Wasser erzeugt zirka 1700 Liter Dampf mit einer Temperatur von 100°C. Die Menge vergrößert sich mit derErhöhung der Temperatur, denn bei 260°C erzeugt 1 Liter Wasser 2400 Liter Dampf, und bei 650°C zirka 4200 Liter.Der Dampf löscht das Feuer durch Erstickung. In kleineren Tropfen aufgeteilt nimmt das Wasser den Raum um das Feuerein, und entzieht dem Feuer den nötigen Sauerstoff. Der Dampf kann auch Teil der Gase und Rauche der Verbrennungin geschlossenen Räumen entfernen. Die Kolben Motorpumpen 100, 150 und 170 bar stellen eine Dampfwand her, die3 Mal größer ist als die von einer Motorpumpe mit 40 bar. Das Resultat ist, dass mit gleichem Verbrauch, die KolbenMotorpumpen die Löschungsfähigkeit verdoppeln und sicherer für den Benutzer sind, weil die direkten Wasserstrahlenund der Dampf sich erhöhen. Mit direktem Wasserstrahl bei 100 bar ist es auch möglich kleinere brennende Holzscheitenzu zerstückeln. Auch kann man tiefe Urbarmachung durchführen und, sehr wichtig, kann man die Löschung von Feuermit großen Höhenunterschieden verdoppeln.Alle Motorpumpen können mit einem Schaum Vormischer ausgestattet werden, der verschiedene Schäume mischt umunterschiedliche Brände löschen zu können. Außerdem kann man mit dem Vormischungssystem von Fireco seit einigenJahren auch unterschiedliche Flüssigkeiten benutzen (Frostschutzmittel, Reinigungsmittel, Pflanzenschutzmittel usw.),dies erlaubt mit der gleichen Ausstattung mehrere Anwendungen zu haben.

There was a revolution in the design of high pressure kit tanks when, in 1997, the Fireco staff carefullyexamined the problems with current tank designs. They came to the conclusion that the fundamental targetsto reach were:

1• LIGHT WEIGHT: the Fireco kits with PRFV Tanks are 50% lighter than those made from differentmaterials (stainless steel) and permit a lighter load on the vehicle or allow an increase of thewater capacity of the tank without increasing the overall weight on the vehicle.2• RESISTANCE: the combination of fibreglass and resins makes the tank more rigid and resistantwhen compared to other tank materials while at the same time making the tank easier to repair(the same material technology is used for racing vehicles, regatta boats and airplanes).3• PRODUCT/PRICE: PRFV tanks have lower manufacturing costs and this positively influences theprice of the final product.4• MONOLITHIC TANK5• SELF EXTINGUISHING TANKS

Thanks to new manufacturing techniques of PRFV, it is possible to develop new products with innovative form andstructure, making it MONOLITHIC (one piece only). This innovation has in fact eliminated the problem of the limitedmechanical resistance to lateral and centrifugal forces of tanks not produced with this method.The ‘’old’’ manufacturing technique consists of the construction of 2 half-shells whose perimeters are glued togetherafterwards. This construction method can result in problems due to the continuous vibration generated by a vehicle drivenon uneven ground or by the simple vibration caused by the use of the kit. This often causes cracking of the 2 parts alongthe seam. This new manufacturing technique permits the construction of a tank in one operation with homogenous andcontinuous veining on all sides. The bottom is prepared with veining of with 50 mm high density reinforced polyurethane.In a few hours the body of the tank can be placed in it and be stratified with fibreglass on the outside, inside and on thewhole perimeter (which, after the polarization, becomes one complete piece). This assembly method has permitted theelimination of the heavy steel frame that was used to reinforce the juncture of the 2 half-shells.The resins used are of the F.R. type, anti-flame, according to the norms.

Im Bereich der Hochdruckanlagen gab es eine Revolution im Jahr 1997 als die technischen Mitarbeitern von Fireco (einigevon Ihnen haben die ersten Hochdruckgeräten vor 20 Jahren entwickelt und hergestellt) nach aufmerksamer Beobachtungder Einsatzprobleme, zum Schluss kamen, dass die folgende Ziele zu erreichen waren:

1• MAXIMALE LEICHTIGKEIT: die Fireco Wasserbehälter in Glasfaser sind durchschnittlich um 50%leichter als die in anderen Materialen (Edelstahl) und dank dieser Eigenschaft hat man eingeringeres Gewicht auf dem Fahrzeug; und die Möglichkeit die Wasservolumen bei gleichemGewicht zu erhöhen.2• WIEDERSTANDSFÄHIGKEIT: die Vereinigung von Glasfasern und Harz mit den neuestenTechnologien gibt eine höhere Solidität und Widerstandsfähigkeit im Gegensatz zu anderenMaterialen und die Geräte sind auch einfacher zu reparieren (die gleiche Technologie wird fürRennwagen, Regatte Boote und Flugzeuge verwendet).3• PREIS/QUALITÄT: die Behälter in Glasfaser sind preiswerter zu produzieren, was sich natürlichauf dem Preis des End-Produkts wiedergibt.4• MONOLITISCHE TANKE5• NICHT BRENNBARE WASSERBEHÄLTER

Dank der neuen Bearbeitungstechnologien des Glasfaser (PRFV) ist es möglich ein Produkt mit radikal neuer Form undStruktur herzustellen, das monolithisch ist (eine einzige Einheit). Diese Neuigkeit beseitigt die geringe mechanischeWiderstandsfähigkeit, gegen quere und zentripetale Stoße, dass ein großer Nachteil der anderen Tanke ist. Denn in der“alten“ Bearbeitungsmethode besteht der Tank aus zwei Halbschalen deren Umfang später durch Klebung vereinigt wird.Dieses System ist aber Stößen oder Vibrationen nicht widerstandsfähig und kann sich in zwei Teile trennen. Die neueBearbeitungstechnologie stellt hingegen einen Tank in einer einzigen Form her, mit homogenen und fortsetzenden Rippenauf der ganzen Höhe der Seiten. Der Boden wird gleichzeitig hergestellt, mit Rippen von 50mm, mit sehr dichtemPolyurethan verstärkt, und wird dann im Tank einmontiert. Der Tank wird innerhalb und außerhalb mit Glasfaser überzogen.Diese Bearbeitung erlaubt den Eisen Rahmen zu entfernen, der im alten System für die Einheit der zwei Teilen diente,und so in Gewicht zu gewinnen.Die eingesetzten Harze sind des F.R. Typs, nicht brennbar, laut Norm:

Motor pump 42 litres at 100 bars with foam proportioning system. This new system allows mixing of foamand filming agents with proportioning of 0.1÷6%, independent of the circuit load. It is possible to use theproportioning system with every length, also 200m, and type of hose. In the new systems, the foam entersdirectly into the pump. This prevents the proportioning system from suffering from the dynamic influencesof pressure from the system load and to operate normally when the pump is running (Only for specificmodels. Please look at page 27).

As a result of the continuous research and development and of the experience from thousands of kits sold all over theworld, the PRFV tanks are now available in Kevlar/Carbon. This new system results in kits that have a higher resistanceover time and are self-supporting. They are also lighter because there is no need for a steel frame.The differences between this new system and the STANDARD PRFV are:

- Available only with 350, 400, 500 and 600 Lt.- The tank has a reinforcing structure in Carbon and Kevlar fibre with 4 threads in stainless steel on the tank that permit the mounting of the HP motor pump groups up to 150kg. The Kevlar-Carbon structure functions as a doubletransversal bulkhead inside the tank.- The tank base is 40mm in height and is shaped to allow the lifting and transportation of the tank with a fork truck; furthermore to reinforce the one-piece structure, there is an inner base reinforcing plate with adhesive andbi-component polyurethane structure.

Kits come complete with: 1 gun with switch for full or nebulized jet with capacity of 40 Lt./min. – steel hose reel 50m tube PVC for diaphragms pumps and tube R1 metallic core for piston pumps - filter with an interchangeable cartridgeon the aspiration line – downward adjustable overflow pipe – three way valve Ø 45 with brass UNI 804 connector forexternal priming or filling from a tank truck or from a fire hydrant – level at communicating vessels - manhole Ø 330for internal inspection – manual accelerator – starting and stopping – second connection already installed and completewith quick coupling – feeding valve of the principal hose reel and second connection – connection, disconnection andpressure regulation lever – pressure regulation valve – pressure visualizing manometer – spiraled aspiration reel 6 m withbrass UNI 25 bottom valve – lower draining valve – various junctions for connection with the pump group – Use andmaintenance instructions

Die Wassertanke in PRFV, dank der fortsetzenden Forschung und Entwicklung und dank der Erfahrung der tausendverkauften Geräte überall auf der Welt, sind nun auch in der innovativen Version in Kevlar-Karbonium erhältlich. Diesesind widerstandskräftiger in der Zeit und sind gleichzeitig selbsthaltend (und deswegen viel leichter, weil der EisenRahmen nicht benötigt wird).Im Vergleich zu den Tanken in PRFV STANDARD sind diese:

- Erhältlich nur mit einem Inhalt von 350, 400, 500 und 600 Lt.- Der Tank hat eine Verstärkungsstruktur in Kevlar und Karbonium Fiber, mit 4 Zapfen in Edelstahl die aus dem Tankhervorragen für Montage von Hochdruck Motorpumpengruppen bis 150 kg. Die Kevlar-Karbonium Struktur dient auch als doppelte quere Schottwand im Tankinneren.- Der Tankboden liegt im Inneren für 40 mm in Höhe auf einen Umfangssockel und ist geformt um den Tank mit den Gabelstapler zu transportieren;um die Einheit zu verstärken ist eine innere Verstärkungsplatte als Boden vorhanden, mit polyurethaner Struktur aus zwei Komponenten.

The high pressure motor pumps can be combined with or without a tank. Available in the versions of 50, 70,80 and 100 Lt/min. at 40 and 50 Bar – 135 Lt./min. at 20 bar - 42 Lt/min. at 100 and 150 Bar with petrol engines9, 13 and 18 HP and diesel engines 10, 11, 12, 15 and 19 HP. Standard they are without hose reel, with highpressure tube and high pressure gun. The width has to be increased of 29mm in case of coupling with a fixedsteel hose reel complete with 50m hose.

Die Hochdruckmotorpumpen kann man mit einem Tank gekoppelt oder Autonom benutzen. Erhältlich inden Versionen von 50, 70, 80 und 100 Lt/Min. bei 40 und 50 Bar – 135 Lt./Min. bei 20 bar - 42 Lt/Min. bei 100und 150 Bar mit Benzinmotoren von 9, 13 und 18 PS und Dieselmotoren von 10, 11, 12, 15 und 19 PS. This group, available only with the petrol engine, has been designed tobe a more compact version, adapted for mounting inside the fire fightingvehicle. It allows installation of high pressure on vehicles that are notequipped with it. The fairing of the motor pump and of the controlboard has greatly improved the appearance. The motor pump can becombined with the patented Fireco foam system. Available with fixedhose, without hose, and with or without a PRFV tank.

Diese Motorpumpe, nur in Benzin, wurde speziell als eine kompakteVersion entwickelt, geeignet für die Montage in Fahrzeuginnerenund erlaubt Hochdruck auch auf Fahrzeugen die nicht damit vorsehensind, zu benutzen. Das Gehäuse der Motorpumpe und der Schalttafelhaben das Aussehen sehr verbessert.
