The pulse-free dispensing techniqueof the Burette Continuous makestitration safer at high-level precisi-on.

The Burette Continuous can be usedfor titration agents up to a concentrati-on of 2 Mol/l. During the titration pro-cess, the burette fills automatically, eli-minating time-consuming refills.

Burettes [PVC/PMP/FEP]These VITLAB plastic burettes are high-precision burettes, resistant to chemicalattack, and a cost-effective choice for routine work. VITLAB plastic burettes havebeen developed in order to eliminate problems of glass breakage in routine labora-tory work, thus providing greater safety and protection for laboratory workers. Thecombination of three different plastic materials - PMP - FEP - PVC - provides highresistance to chemical attack. Our VITLAB stopcock housing is unique in that it isthe first such to be moulded as a single unit. The key is of FEP, requires no lubricati-on. The high-precision graduated burette tube is moulded of PVC and overcoatedwith "Schellbach". This provides for better legibility, along with high resistance tochemical attack.

In addition to the polyolefines (e.g. PP,HDPE and LDPE), fluorine plastics,especially PFA and PTFE, have foundtheir firm place in modern laboratories,since they possess an extremely highresistance to chemicals and an unusualtemperature resistance of -200°C to+260 °C (PTFE, PFA).For a long time, only PTFE was availablewith its relatively rough micro-poroussurface, which is common for sinteredmaterials. Since 1971, PFA, anadvancement of PTFE, has becomeavailable. With PFA it is possible tomanufacture transparent products withan extremely smooth, closed or densesurface, using injection moulding orextrusion blow moulding techniques.

The ever-increasing need to lower thedetection limit of elemental trace ana-lysis necessitates the use of appropriatecontainer materials. Today, trace ana-lysis works with concentrations in therange of ng/g (ppb) and pg/g (ppt).Other materials, if not specially pre-treated, can cause a change of concen-tration due to an interaction of thecontainer wall with the sample orreference solution or with chemicals,and can thus adulterate the result ofthe analysis. Studies have shown that alow concentration of element standardscan be maintained for a longer time ifcontainers used are made from PFA.

The selection of containers made ofhigh-purity PFA is not only saferregarding the analysis, it is alsoeconomical due to the rationalization oflaboratory processes. For all PFA pro-ducts, VITLAB uses only high-purity PFA,which is particularly well-suited fortrace analysis. For less critical uses, e.g.if the main requirement is a high che-mical resistance, VITLAB offers bottlesof “PFA Economy” grade, which arepartly made of recycled PFA. Thesebottles are very reasonably priced andenvironmentally sound.

CleaningThe easy-to-clean surfaces without anymemory effects complement the valu-able attributes of PFA laboratoryequipment for sampling, preparationand analysis in the field of elementaltrace analysis.

Example:Cleaning procedure of glass and PFAgraduated flasks after contaminationwith a Pb solution in the concentrationof 100 ppb (µg/g). The containers werecleaned by raising them out with a65% HNO3 Suprapur® solution at roomtemperature.

Result:After rinsing the containers three times,the marginal concentration of 0,003ppb was reached. Thus, the time-consuming boiling process can beeliminated.

Volume measuring tools made fromplastics are an important addition tothe range of articles for modernlaboratories. Their advantages such asstability, low weight and favourableprice are well known. But since theaccuracy of graduated flasks andcylinders made from plastics can becompared to the accuracy of glass toolsthese days, the spectrum for the appli-cation of plastic volume measuringdevices widens considerably.Laboratories working according to GLPor GMP, being certified according toDIN EN ISO 9001 or accredited toISO/EC 17025 should use certifiedmeasuring tools whenever possible andsubject these to controls at regularintervals.

Following an initiative by VITLAB, in1996 the standards committee forlaboratory apparatus and equipmentadopted the first DIN standard forgraduated cylinders made of plastics

(DIN 12 681) which is analogous to DIN12 680 (graduated cylinders made ofglass). Based on this new DIN 12 681,VITLAB was the first manufacturer toproduce class A graduated cylindersfrom PMP, which are certified forconformity (Symbol H) and have araised scale.

With our quality management system,certified according to DIN EN ISO 9001,and the periodical controls of pro-duction and products by the calibrationauthorities in charge, we can ensureour adherence to the requirements forthe reception of the certificate ofconformity according to DIN 12 600pertinent to the calibration regulationsof August 12th, 1988.

Due to their slight conicity, VITLAB canmanufacture graduated cylinders with asturdy wall thickness. For this reason,our quality graduated cylinders do notneed any additional reinforcement of

the brim. The liquid column remainsstable, even when the cylinder is lifted.The cylinders have a hexagonal base,allowing them to stand steady on sixlevels instead of just three points! All ofthe attributes mentioned are the cha-racteristics of a true quality product.

Furthermore, since 2000 VITLAB hasbeen the first manufacturer to producegraduated flasks from PMP and PFA,which adhere to the class A tolerancesof DIN EN ISO 1042 (glass).

VITLAB developed production methodsfor plastic laboratory equipment andemploys a reliable system of qualityassurance with the goal of keeping thestandard volume tolerances given forvolume measurement devices madefrom glass. Every class A graduatedcylinder or flask receives a certificate ofquality with a charge number and dateof production, which are also indicatedon the product itself.

All polyolefines, such as PE-LD, PE-HD,PP and PMP, as well as the fluorine syn-thetics PTFE, PFA, FEP, ETFE and ECTFEhave water-repellent surfaces that arevery durable and easy to clean.Scrubbing agents or brillo pads shouldnot be used for laboratory equipmentmade of plastics, but you may usegeneric alkaline cleaning agents.Equipment made from the materialsmentioned above can be cleaned anddried in a lab washer, with othercontainers. Due to their low weight werecommend securing them withwashing nets to avoid tumbling them inthe water jet. (Polycarbonate (PC)equipment should not be cleaned withalkaline cleaning agents (> pH 7).)

Cleaning in trace analysis

To avoid contamination with cationsand anions, you should leave plasticslaboratory equipment with a 1N HCl orHNO3 for a maximum of 6 hours atroom temperature, and rinse itafterwards with purified distilled water.If trace analysis is conducted in therange of ng/g (ppb) or pg/g (ppt),containers made of PFA are particularlysuitable, because they have a smoothsurface, are easy to clean withoutmemory effects and interaction withthe container material.

Sterilization of laboratory equipmentmade of plastics

Prior to sterilization you have to ensurethat there are no residualcontaminations on the equipment,since these could lead to the plastic’sdestruction during the autoclaving pro-cess (121°).For autoclaving, please note thatcontainers with a screw-on lid orstopper have to be opened to ensurepressure equalization. Autoclaving ofclosed containers leads to adeformation or destruction of thecontainer.

1 General conditions

1.1 (Conflicting business conditions, confirmation inwriting) The only terms and conditions for contractsbetween VITLAB GmbH (hereinafter "VITLAB") and hercustomers shall be those terms and conditions of VITLABas last made known to the respective customer. VITLABwill not accept any conflicting general business terms,whether or not expressly rejected by VITLAB. Deviationsor additional terms shall not be binding unless expresslyagreed to in writing by VITLAB’s authorizedrepresentative.1.2 (Offers, right to make modifications, Electronic datastorage) All bids and offers are subject to modification atVITLAB’s discretion. VITLAB reserves the right to maketechnical improvements and modifications of productswithout prior notification. VITLAB may store contractinformation in data processing systems.1.3 (Offsetting, withholding) Unless a customer hasundisputed counterclaims, he shall neither be entitled tooffset nor to withhold payments for deliveries received.1.4 (Rush orders/small orders) For orders requested to bedelivered within 5 business days and/or for order valuesup to 500 1 VITLAB reserves the right to ship and invoiceimmediately without separate order confirmation.1.5 (Minimum Order Value) Orders of amounts less than100 1 are subject to a 20 1 surcharge. Deliveriesnormally are carried out in the packing units as indicatedin the actual price list.1.6 (Court of jurisdiction, governing law) For disputesarising out of contracts with German customers solelythe court of jurisdiction in Darmstadt, Germany shall becompetent. Disputes with foreign customers shall befinally settled according to the Arbitration Rules of theGerman Institution of Arbitration e.V. (DIS), theChamber of Commerce in Darmstadt, Germany beingsolely competent without recourse to the ordinarycourts of law. All contracts with German customers shallbe construed and interpreted in accordance with thelaws of the Federal Republic of Germany, contracts withforeign customers exclusively in accordance with the"UN Convention on the International Sale of Goods",CISG. In cases where the arbitral tribunal cannot beinstalled or should prove to be incompetent, theordinary courts of jurisdiction in Darmstadt shall besolely competent, German law being solely applicable.1.7 (Liability) On any claims based on negligence of hermanagers or employees, VITLAB’s liability shall onlyaccrue from gross negligence and be limited to the netpurchase price of the respective contract.

2 Delivery

2.1 Place of performance shall be VITLAB’s factory inSeeheim-Jugenheim, Germany. The risk shall be trans-ferred to the customer when the shipment leavesVITLAB’s factory. This shall apply also to partial deliveries,deliveries to a consignment location and all deliverieswhere VITLAB has agreed to provide additional servicessuch as freight forwarding, packing, exportation andinstallation. The customer shall be responsible for allpacking, transport and insurance costs to the place ofdelivery.2.2 Where VITLAB has accepted Orders on Call,Standing or Blanket Orders, the customer must call upthe entire order quantity within 6 months.2.3 If there be any delay in the customer’s acceptance ofa shipment, after providing a warning and setting adeadline, VITLAB may, at her own discretion, have theproducts stored at the customer’s expense or sell theproducts. The foregoing shall not in any way affect theobligations under the contract nor the rights of VITLABwith respect to fulfillment under the contract.

3 Delivery period, Delay

3.1 Indicated delivery periods are approximate and shallcommence upon customer’s receipt of VITLAB’s orderconfirmation; however, only after settlement of tech-nical questions and after VITLAB has received alldocuments, permits or releases required from thecustomer and any agreed to advance payments. Anyestimated shipping date shall be deemed met if the con-signment has left the VITLAB facility within the indicateddelivery period or if the customer has been providedwith information that the products are ready for dis-patch. Liability for delay damages see 1.7.3.2 Acts of God, strikes, lockouts, operatingbreakdowns, shortages of raw materials or means ofproduction for which VITLAB is not responsible,including delayed deliveries or failure to deliver by thesuppliers of VITLAB, and modified services or products

requested by the customer, shall extend the deliveryperiod accordingly and/or shall release VITLAB from herobligation to deliver if delivery becomes impossible as aresult. The same applies in cases where a shipment hadalready been delayed prior to any such circumstances.

4 Conditions of payment, price alterations, compen-sation for returned products

4.1 Prices quoted shall be EXW (ex-works). Charges forpackaging, freight and insurance shall be at thecustomer’s expense. Invoices shall be paid in full,without deductions, all transaction-related banking feesat the customer’s expense, and must be credited toVITLAB’s account in the Federal Republic of Germany, inEURO ( ) by the due date indicated on the invoice.VITLAB shall accept bills of exchange or checks only witha view to performance at the customer’s expense.VITLAB retains, at her sole discretion, the right at anytime to deny any extension of credit to either new orexisting customers. VITLAB retains the right to requestpayment in full in advance of any shipment.4.2 If the period between conclusion of the contract anddelivery is longer than 3 months, VITLAB reserves theright to invoice the prices effective on the date of deli-very. The customer has the right to claim a corres-ponding price reduction if he can prove that the externalcosts of VITLAB have decreased since conclusion of thecontract. In case these price changes exceed 15% of thepurchase price of the respective contract, either partymay, at it’s sole discretion, withdraw from the contract.For Deliveries on Call as well as for deliveries based onStanding or Blanket Orders, the prices effective on thedate of delivery shall apply.4.3 No products shall be returned without prior writtenauthorization. All returned goods must be the currentmodel, complete in their original packaging, and in newsaleable condition. All returns are subject to a 15% re-stocking fee (1 10 minimum), notwithstanding furtherindemnity claims. In case of delay in payment andnotwithstanding further indemnity claims the customershall pay interest on all amounts in arrears as per §288German Civil Code (BGB), unless he can prove the losscaused by delay in payment to be less.4.4 In case of any delays in payment of any invoices, thetotal amount of the customer’s liabilities to VITLAB shallbe payable immediately and VITLAB shall be releasedfrom any obligations to effect any further deliveriesresulting from any contract.

5 Reservation of proprietary rights

5.1 (Reservation of Proprietary Rights) The delivered pro-ducts shall remain the property of VITLAB and title shallbe withheld until all open liabilities of the customer havebeen fully and unconditionally paid for.5.2 (Prolonged reservation) The customer may neitherconsume products delivered conditionally nor combinethem with other items to which third parties have rights.Customer may process or resell the products in thenormal course of business only if claims arising from theresale have not been assigned, pledged, attached orotherwise encumbered or are liable to be offset againstcounterclaims. Customer shall assign to VITLAB inadvance, any accounts receivable arising from the sale ofproducts delivered conditionally and of newly con-stituted products to the amount of the invoice for theproducts delivered conditionally.5.3 The customer may have the accounts receivable forproducts delivered conditionally or under joint owner-ship as per clause 5.2 factored only if the Factor is awareof the advance assignment of claims to VITLAB and ifthe Factor transfers payments received directly toVITLAB.5.4 The customer is required to immediately informVITLAB of any attachments, confiscation or any otherdisposition of a third party with regard to products deli-vered.5.5 In case of customer’s insolvency or if any monetaryinstrument should be returned to VITLAB for insufficientfunds, customer shall lose all rights as per clauses 5.2and 5.3 above. Customer must immediately inform anysubsequent purchasers of VITLAB’s reservation of pro-prietary rights. Any and all revenue received by thecustomer relating to the sale of products shall be usedexclusively for paying any amounts due to VITLAB.VITLAB retain the right to reclaim any products whichare still in the customer’s possession.

6 Warranty, damages, supply of spare parts

6.1 Only qualities, properties, performance, or otherfeatures which VITLAB has expressly warranted inwriting to the customer shall be binding. Details inadvertisements and instructions for use, or reference toindustrial standards shall not constitute warrantedqualities or the taking-on of particular obligations. If thecustomer requires the products for special purposeswhich exceed the normal range of use, he must checkbefore use if the products are specially suitable for suchpurposes – including all aspects pertaining to productsafety – and customer is required to ensure that pro-ducts comply with all relevant technical, legal andofficial regulations and requirements. VITLAB shall notbe liable for any damages caused to the customer or anysubsequent user if proper written authorization was notobtained from VITLAB. If the customer has expressedspecial requirements regarding materials of constructionor design modifications, VITLAB is not liable for testingthe suitability or approving the requested material ordesign and is therefore not responsible for any exami-nation as to suitability, worthiness or appropriateness forany particular application.6.2 VITLAB warrants the products to be free fromdefects in materials and workmanship at the time ofdelivery. All wearing, glass and ceramic parts (e.g.pistons, seals and valves) are excluded from anywarranty. Any and all warranties are null and void if theproducts have been processed or consumed in any way,shape or fashion, if the defects are caused by improperhandling, maintenance, use or processing by thecustomer or by third parties, or caused by normal wearand tear or damage caused during transport.6.3 In case a product should prove to be defective as perthe a.m. warranty within one year from date ofshipment to the original purchaser, the exclusive remedyof the customer is to the replacement or repair (atVITLAB’s sole discretion) of the defective product.6.4 If the products delivered are destined for thecustomer’s business, he shall be obliged to checkincoming products as to quantity delivered and defectsand report claims to VITLAB within one week from deli-very. Failure to do so will void any and all potential claimsfor warranty for these defects.6.5 Prior to any return shipment, customer shall beobliged to clean and decontaminate the products.6.6 The warranty period for any replacement parts pro-vided by VITLAB under warranty shall lapse at the end ofthe warranty period for the original product.6.7 VITLAB is generally able to supply spare parts for aperiod of 5 years from the date of delivery of the originalproduct. If the spare parts are not manufactured byVITLAB and are no longer available on the market or ifthe required raw materials are no longer available,VITLAB’s obligation to supply spare parts shall lapse.

7 Industrial proprietary rights, tools, secrecy

7.1 VITLAB reserves ownership in any tools, moulds,samples, diagrams, commercial or technical documentsprovided by VITLAB as well as all copyrights, proprietaryand intellectual property rights in any such item. Thisapplies also if the customer has partly or wholly bornetheir costs. The customer may use all such items only informats approved by VITLAB in writing, he is neitherentitled to manufacture these items nor to have themmanufactured on his behalf.7.2 The customer is responsible that the use ofdrawings, models, samples, or instructions as providedto VITLAB by the customer shall not infringe industrialproperty rights or other rights of third parties. Thecustomer shall be liable for payment of all expenses,awards, damages, and other compensation to outsideparties and all cash and non-cash expenses in defendingany allegation of such infringement.7.3 All information acquired through the businessrelationship which is not deemed to be publicknowledge shall be deemed proprietary and may not bedisclosed to any third parties.
