Fan coils units can be applied to two andfour pipe systems to satisfy therequirements of a wide variety of airconditioning and heating applications. Fancoils are used to directly treat the air in theroom where they are installed.

The effectiveness of a fan coil is due to thelarge surface area of the finned heatexchanger (coil), through which the air, drawn from the room by the fan, passes.

  • COMPONENTSChassis

The inner frame consists of 2 sides welded to a back panel and aremovable condensate tray, suitable for both vertical andhorizontal mounting units. The panels are made of galvanisedsteel: 0.8 mm thick (sizes 110 to 218) and 1 mm thick (sizes 220to 228).

The sides have a special anti-torsion structure near the coilconnections to prevent deformation during pipeworkconnection. All the inner elements are completely lined withthermal insulation material.

The condensate water passes through a 20 mm externaldiameter header to a field connected drain tube. Both right andleft drain connections are available as standard.

    Coils

The coils consist of aluminium fin packs and mechanicallyexpanded copper tubes. Coils are factory leaked tested at30 bar and suitable for working conditions of 8 bar.

Standard water connections, on the right side (facing the airoutlet), have a " female threaded gas coupling. The coil can beeasily removed and reversed on site for water connections onthe left side. Each coil header is provided with a valve, to allowair venting or water drainage from the coil.

    Fans

The fan assembly consists of one (sizes 110 to 114) or two(sizes 216 to 228) centrifugal fans with aluminium impellers, directly splined to the motor shaft, with galvanized steel scrolls.Assemblies can easily be removed, independently of the innerframe, by taking off two fixing screws. Each fan is dynamicallybalanced, to reduce noise and wear of the components tominimum levels.

The IP41 centrifugal motor, single or double-shaft, is singlephase with permanently connected capacitor and thermalprotection of the windings. The motor is factory wired as 3 speedor can be 6 speed (by using a transformer).

    Controls

The control panel is fitted in an insulated box on the left side ofthe inner frame, the panel must be moved to the right side whenthe coil connections are reversed.

The control panel on YLV, YLV/AF and YLVR units contains a 3fan speed selector and an ON/OFF switch. It is equipped with a0.3 m long supply cable as standard and is accessed via a doorlocated in the side of the grille.

The control panel on YLH, YLH/AF, YLIV, YLIV/AF, YLIH,YLIH/AF and YLIVR units, contains a terminal board with themotor cables.

  • Air filter

The air filter consists of a metal frame and two wide mesh netsenclosing the filter element. The filter can be easily be removedfor cleaning by releasing its fixing.

AF models have a shaped filter located behind the air inlet paneland suspended by splines.

    Housing

The housing is manufactured with sheet steel painted with ovendried epoxy powders, 0.8 mm thick (sizes 110 to 218) and 1 mmthick (sizes 220 to 228). It is fixed to the inner frame with screwsand retainers. On AF models, the filter access panel has a quickrelease screw system.

Standard housing colours are white (RAL 9001) on the LASERseries and ice white on the LOW BODY series.

The standard grilles are movable and can be turned by hand inall 4 directions. At each side of the grilles, two doors in ABS giveaccess to the control panel and to the water connectionsrespectively. The grilles and the two doors are finished in white(RAL 9001).

    * The sound pressure levels given are for a room volume of 100 m at a distance of 1.5 metres from the unitwith a reverberation time of 0.3 seconds. The values of Lp in the correction tables allow the calculation of the new sound pressure level, when the room volume, reverberation time and distance from the unit change. For example: A YLV size 218 has a sound pressure of 41 db (A) in a room of 100 m, at 1.5 m, reverberation time 0.3 s.In a room of 120 m, at 2.5 m, with a reverberation time 0.6 s, the sound pressure will be 41 + 1.2 - 1.0 = 41.2 db(A)

The flow rate correction and pressure drop correction factors should be a applied to the nominal water flow rate and pressure drop given in theperformance data to maintain the cooling/heating capacties of the unit.

The capacity correction and pressure drop correction factors should be a applied to the unit performance data for the nominal water flow ratesgiven.

    TABLE 27 Glycol Data

    Example 1

The standard heating capacity of a YLV 218 2 row coil unit at 20C Air Entering Temperature, 70C Entering Water Temperature and10K Water Temperature decrease at Fan Speed 3 (MED) is 6.826 kW with a pressure drop of 3.5 kPa.

With a 30% ethylene glycol mix (external air temperatures down to -10C, liquid frost protection to -16C) the corrected heatingcapacity using a mean liquid temperature of 60C:

    Heating capacity is 6.826 x 0.9426 = 6.434 kW

    Pressure drop is 3.5 x 1.13 = 3.955 kPa

    Example 2

The total cooling capacity of a YLV 224 4 row coil unit at 27C DB, 19C WB Air Entering Temperature, 7C Entering WaterTemperature and 5K Water Temperature Increase at Fan Speed 3 (MED) is 7.590 kW at a water flow rate of 0.363 l/s with apressure drop of 7.7 kPa.

The total cooling capacity can be maintained with a 15% ethylene glycol mix (external air temperatures down to 0C, liquid frostprotection to -7C) using a mean liquid temperature of 10C:

    Water flow of 0.363 x 1.0329 = 0.375 l/s

    Corrected Pressure drop of 7.7 x 1.1181 = 8.6 kPa
