Our studio is in the Oxo Tower, which is situated on the south bank of the Thames. We are near some of London’s most famous landmarks such as the London Eye and the Tate Modern. The nearest underground stations are either Waterloo or Blackfriars.

box appetitA revolutionary new lunch box. More like a ceramic bowl than your standard food container and with better functionality. The ‘glass like’ lid locks to the body for a water tight seal and has an ingenious sauce dipping area (good for sushi lovers). A sauce pot is ideal for salad dressing (or ketchup), so you can dress your salad just before you eat it. An inner dish allows you to split different foods so you can microwave a hot dish, but keep other foods cold. We have also included a fork / knife for easy one handed eating.

lunch box bagCarry the box appetit in style. The bag is insulated to keep your food warm or cool and also has room for a drink or a piece of fruit. Then pull the bag open to create a mini blanket to sit in a park or use it as a place mat on your desk.

high&dryA sculptural dishrack that is inspired by architecture. The design is highly functional and simply folds from flat to fully erect. It holds an amazing amount considering the compact size. The spikes hold even your most delicate champagne glasses upright. The optional draining tray has an ingenious folding spout which allows you to choose whether the excess water drains or not.

spudskiA potato masher inspired by old fashioned ski poles. The rubber handle is easy to grip and allows you to hold it from the side or from above. The mashing plate really works well. After much testing, we found a design that pushes the mashed potato away from the stem to help it mash faster and almost clean itself. We have also included Martin’s Swiss grandmother’s recipe for mashed potato!

flower loopAn elegant yet minimal flower vase made from free flowing steel wire. The form looks appealingly simple and unique from every angle. It can be used individually or interlinked to create a cluster. Flower Loop is inspired by the Fibonacci curve that is seen throughout nature and looks correct and balanced to the human eye.
A removable water tube for easy refilling and a very high quality artificial cala lily which complements the design are included.

heavy weightWe were tired of using tape dispensers that didn’t work. Either the blade didn’t cut, or they were not heavy enough to use with one hand. We created a design that simply works!
The body is made from aluminium, but has an inner cast iron core and it weighs over 1kg (2.2 lbs). It also has a forged stainless steel blade that cuts tape perfectly

After many requests, we adapted the award winning “James” the doorman into a bookend! The stainless steel foot that is fixed to his foot, ensures that any number of books can be lent against James’ outstretched arm without him slipping over. He can be used individually or as a pair.

Each year we are proud to take part in Humanscale’s ‘Faces in the Wild’ auction. Artists and designers are asked to contribute a sculpture which is then auctioned off to raise money for the World Wildlife Fund. Our glass polar bear fetched $35,000.
We have also adapted a Vipp bin for charity and made it into a bbq.
We relish the challenge of applying our creativity to one off designs which do not have the usual market driven constraints. If you would like to involve black+blum in a one off commission, please do not hesitate to contact us.
