GLOBAL CHALLENGES REQUIRE HOLISTIC SOLUTIONS

Passion for engineering and attention towards society guided Ramboll’s founders, B. J. Rambøll and J. G. Hannemann, when they started the company in 1945. Whilst Ramboll has evolved to encompass new disciplines and serve international markets, these principles and our Nordic roots still form the foundations of the company today.

Responsible business behaviour coupled with global expertise and local experience has proven to be a successful and sustainable business approach for Ramboll.

The world today faces far-reaching challenges that affect us all. Complex megatrends such as climate change, urbanisation, scarcity of natural resources and economic uncertainty each require global solutions.

Working closely with our customers and partners, Ramboll is dedicated to meeting these challenges by combining local experience with the global multidisciplinary expertise provided by close to 10,000 engineering, design and consultancy specialists.

We continually strive to be at the forefront of delivering innovative, inspiring and sustainable solutions that set new standards and make a genuine difference to our customers, the environment and society as a whole.

Being decent and proper does not only concern whether your tie is in place when doing business. It is about treating other people and society right in a long-term perspective. B. J. Rambøll

The Ramboll Foundation is the main owner of Ramboll - providing stability and instilling the highest ethical standards. The Foundation’s primary objective is to promote the long-term development of the company, our employees and the communities we serve. Since 2009, the Foundation has donated over EUR 500,000 to fund a range of technical research and to support relief efforts for natural disasters worldwide.

Ramboll’s expansion has been achieved through consistent organic growth with both small and large strategic acquisitions.

The value of local experience can never be underestimated. After all, there are significant differences in culture, requirements, traditions and language throughout the world.

As consultants, we need to be present locally in order to understand the specific needs of our customers. At the same time, we must be able to draw on our specialist knowledge across disciplines and national borders. With more than 200 offices in 22 countries, Ramboll has developed a strong platform for delivering projects of any size and complexity.

Mobility is the key to unlocking the regional and global environment. With increasing urbanisation, and people and goods crossing borders every day, only a well functioning infrastructure can support the continuous development of any society. Ramboll focuses on delivering added value solutions that facilitate mobility to provide freedom, proximity and experiences for the individual whilst creating economic growth and long term benefits for society.

ENVIRONMENTAs human beings, we rely on the nature around us for our quality of life and the supply of necessities such as food and water. Global trends including industrialisation and extreme weather events related to climate change have made the preservation of our natural resources critically important.

Ramboll is at the forefront of achieving the most sustainable solutions by combining an in-depth understanding of processes in the natural environment with advanced engineering techniques.

01 GREATER GABBARD, UK – Once complete, the world’s largest offshore wind farm will offset 1.5 million tonnes of CO2 emissions per year, the equivalent of taking 350,000 cars off the road. Ramboll is providing the pile and foundation design on the first project in history with monopile foundations in water depths over 30 metres.

02 COPENHAGEN DISTRICT HEATING, DENMARK – For more than 40 years, Ramboll has helped develop one of the largest integrated district heating systems in the world. The system supplies heat to a city of 1 million people and will be instrumental in making Copenhagen carbon neutral by 2025.

03 ADVANCED MULTI-FUEL POWER STATION, DENMARK – Unit 2 of Avedøre power station uses natural gas, oil, straw and wood pellets for simultaneous generation of heat and electricity. The 540MWe plant is one of the world’s most efficient, exploiting up to 94% of the fuels’ energy with an electrical efficiency of 49%. Ramboll experts have provided a range of specialist services to Dong Energy since 1980 to enable the development of this state-of-the-art facility.

01 ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT FOR RUBY MINE, GREENLAND – Drawing on local knowledge from our Greenlandic operations and environmental expertise from specialists in Denmark, Ramboll is undertaking an environmental baseline study and environmental impact assessment as part of the permitting process for a proposed ruby mine in western Greenland.

02 SOUTH STREAM GAS PIPELINE, BLACK SEA REGION – Supporting efforts to strengthen energy security in central and southern Europe, Ramboll is involved in preparations for the environmental permitting process for the South Stream project. The scheme will include the construction of a 900km offshore pipeline between Russia and Bulgaria with a capacity of 63 billion m3 of natural gas per year.

03 INTELLIGENT WASTEWATER HANDLING, DENMARK – Part of Copenhagen’s 2011 Climate Adaptation Plan is to optimise the integrated operations of sewer systems and waste water treatment plants. Ramboll is helping to realise this by developing a comprehensive model for run-off and biological treatment.

TELECOMSThe rapid development within communication technologies has changed our way of life by providing unprecedented access to information.

Since 1945, Ramboll has been at the forefront of telecommunications infrastructures. In addition to network optimisation, renewable energy and indoor neutral host solutions, we offer a comprehensive service portfolio for operators and network suppliers worldwide; from market-leading consultancy services to the supply of our optimised towers and masts. ENR ranked Ramboll as the number one design firm in telecommunications worldwide.

01 TOWER SUPPLY AND MANAGEMENT, INDIA AND AFRICA – India is the world’s fastest growing telecommunications market with an estimated 1.2 billion subscribers by 2013, whilst in Africa projections suggest that 15,000 new mobile phone towers will be needed every year. This is driving the rapid development of related infrastructure, which Ramboll is supporting by supplying towers to mobile operators and network suppliers. We also assess the condition, and where needed, strengthen existing structures to allow tower sharing.

02 NATIONWIDE RAIL RADIO SYSTEM, DENMARK – To enable seamless rail travel across international borders, Ramboll is helping long standing customer, Banedanmark, develop the infrastructure for a new nationwide digital radio network. Ramboll is also leading the consortium that is designing and planning a wider initiative to upgrade Denmark’s entire rail signalling system.

01 REFURBISHMENT OF MAJOR ONSHORE GAS TERMINAL, GERMANY – After more than 30 years of operation, Gassco’s Norsea gas terminal in Emden is now scheduled to be refurbished to maintain safe and reliable gas transportation for the future. WORKING TOGETHERRESPONSIBLYRamboll believes in taking a responsible and holistic approach to everything we do, and strives to promote sustainable development and good corporate citizenship. We believe in a business behaviour based on trust, integrity, transparency and professionalism.

Through our commitment to the ten principles of the UN Global Compact, an internationally recognised framework for advancing corporate responsibility, our performance is measured and reported in four main areas:

- Human rights - Labour - Environment

- Anti-corruption

Ramboll has introduced a policy to instil good governance across the supply chain. This includes a suppliers’ declaration that provides a framework for Ramboll and our partners to agree and commit to a common set of responsibility standards. Ramboll’s ‘obligation to act’ policy requires us to inform our customers or partners when unacceptable business behaviour is identified – an industry first.

PIONEERING APPROACH FOR SUSTAINABLE BUILDINGS

Developers, investors and end users all have an interest in the sustainability credentials of new buildings. With extensive experience of assessment methods such as BREEAM, Ramboll has also developed the first tool of its kind to quantify and visualise all aspects of a scheme’s sustainability performance prior to construction. In addition to enabling savings in energy use and running costs, the innovative ‘RamSuB’ application provides a holistic evaluation of a building’s climatic, environmental, social and economic impact.

ADDED CUSTOMERVALUEOver the last ten years, Ramboll’s turnover and employee base have increased by more than 400%. With international growth comes diversity and the enlargement of our talented team of consultants – positioning us as a dynamic and forward-thinking partner that provides customers with added value.
