“Catch on” means to understand something; become popular or fashionable. Rohit is very quick to catch on. Now a days children are not foolish, they catch on what we are doing. The fashion of wearing loose clothes is catching on.

“Catch out” means show that some body is ignorant or doing something wrong; to discover; dismiss a batsman by catching the ball after he had touched it with his bat and before it touches the ground. You ask anything to Rohit, you cannot catch him out. You should be very careful while lying, Mr. Murthy is capable of catching you out. The last batsman was caught out by the wicket keeper.
