McAULEY SCHOOL RULES:

FAITH: God’s rules are: 1. Love God

2. Love others – Treat others how you want them to treat you.

JUSTICE: - Make positive choices

RESPECT: - Respect yourself, others and the school environment

SERVICE: - Help others in our school and the world

LEARNING: - Learn and let others learn

FOCUS FOR THE WEEK: Help your teachers and friends.

This week’s rule comes from SERVICE: Help others in our school and the world.

At this time of year this rule is even more important. Life becomes very busy at the end of the school year

and as we prepare for Christmas. It is important that we do help our teachers, friends and parents. It is not

until we get older that we really appreciate everything that our teachers and parents do for us. We should

always help each other whenever we can.

Kindergarten Readiness Program: This year the Bathurst Catholic Education Office (CEO) have

implemented a Kindy Readiness program including Move to Learn and Writing without Tears strategies.

Overall the program has been a success and we thank our Kindergarten teachers Mrs Sutton, Mrs Derwin

and Mrs Wright for their dedication hard work and expertise to ensure all kindergarten children had a

smooth transition into “Big School.” Bettina Spora and Mel Fuller from the CEO visited last week and

were full of praise for our Kindy teachers and very impressed at the progress our newest students have

made.

Kindergarten Conversations: A big thank you to our Kindergarten teachers who last week had a

conversation with each of the parents of children in their class. The purpose of this conversation was to let

the parents know how their child has settled in and how they are coping with the rigors of school. It also

gave the parents a chance to let the teachers know anything that may impact on their learning or behavior.

Whole School Assembly: 2J will present their work at the first Whole School Assembly this Friday 17th

March commencing at 12:15pm in Kenna Hall. A big thank you to Mrs Kerrie Lindsay for preparing the

Assembly in Mrs Carpenter’s absence. All welcome.

Excursions: In the next two weeks Year 3 will visit the Dubbo Zoo. Year 2 will visit the Milthorpe

Museum. Year 4 will visit the Aboriginal display at the Orange Museum. Year 3 & Year 4 had an

incursion with Mark Saddler that explored Aboriginal culture. Year 6 visited the ANZAC display at the

Orange Indoor Tennis Centre. All these experiences have or will enhance the learning that has been taking

place in these grades.

Diocesan Spelling Bee: Year 3 to Year 6 children have begun to focus on Spelling in order to select one

child from each grade to compete in this years Diocesan Spelling Bee.

The final for Primary will be on Thursday 1st June Week 6 of Term 2.

Morning Routine: Drop and go at the gate: Parents are reminded that the routine in the morning is drop

your child at the gate …give them a kiss and cuddle and let them walk into school. EVEN FOR

KINDERGARTEN CHILDREN….the children will settle in quickly and will stop congestion in the

Kindy and Year 1 line up area of a morning.

AROUND THE CLASSROOMS WITH MR MAGUIRE

Last week I was in Year 6 for one of their rotation sessions. Each teacher takes the three classes for one

KLA and then they rotate so all classes are taught the three lessons. Mrs Rosser teaches Visual Arts. Mrs

Wright teaches Science. Mr Hudson teaches Geography. (Mr Jennings was in on this day). I helped two of

the Science groups. The team work and cooperation was fantastic. As was the excitement when the

bicarb, acid and water reacted to blow up the balloon.

It is a fantastic initiative from the Year 6 teachers. It obviously enhances the learning of the children (and

teachers) while preparing them for the changes they will experience in High School. Another positive is

this model utilises skills and interests of the teachers.

FROM THE RELIGIOUS EDUCATION COORDINATOR

Lent: It is so easy for those of us who were born with sight to take our world for granted, but for the

beggar in St John’s Gospel this week to be given sight for the first time in his life by Jesus, it must have

been truly a miraculous gift. St John relates his story, not to show Jesus’ power, but rather to open our

minds to ‘see’ that God’s work may be done through us. Often we miss seeing the work of God, such as a

beautiful sunrise, or someone reaching out to help another, as we are so caught up in all we have to do.

Through this story, we are brought to an understanding that God is at work, all day, every day, in those all

around us. Perhaps this week we could take a moment to stop and open our eyes to really see some of

God’s work.

Project Compassion: Please continue to encourage and support your children in contributing to Project

Compassion, and to thinking about those who will benefit greatly from their generosity this Lent.

Through effective partnerships in countries all over the world, Caritas is making a real difference, helping

people to become self-sufficient, giving them a real sense of dignity and pride. This year, with your help,

we can truly live the theme of Project Compassion “Love Your Neighbour”.

Prayers: Each day it seems, I am made aware of more members of our School Community who are going

through difficult times due to illness. Could I please ask you to continue to pray for these families. Your

support at this time is greatly appreciated.

School Liturgies and Masses: Today Year 1 celebrated a beautiful Grade Liturgy, and it was lovely to

have so many friends and family members join them. Next week on 29th March at 12:45pm our Year 6

students will celebrate their Grade Mass. As always, you are very welcome to join us for these

celebrations.

Wishing you a great week,

God Bless,

Robyn Petty

God of peace,

Teach us to follow the example of Jesus.

May we choose to receive the gift of sight,

and to live his message

with new eyes of faith.

Amen

INTERESTING FACT OF THE WEEK

The human nose can distinguish between over 10,000 different smells.

SPORT

McAuley Athletics Carnival: The McAuley Year 2 – Year 6 Athletics Carnival has been postponed from

Tuesday 21st March until next Tuesday 28th March at James Sheahan Catholic High School because of the

condition of the ground. A note came home on Monday with all the details of the change. Please fill in the

bottom part and return to school to indicate whether you can help on the new date. Sorry for any

inconvenience. Looking forward to seeing you at the carnival at James Sheahan on Tuesday 28th March.

Diocesan Winter Trials: Congratulations to all children who took part in the Bathurst Diocesan Winter

Trials last Friday. From all reports the standard of sport was high and our students were great

ambassadors for our school. Thank you to Mr Hudson for attending as the McAuley representative.

Congratulations to the following children who will now represent the Bathurst Diocese at the Polding trials

in Bathurst on Friday 28th April. (Rugby Union will be held in Forbes on Monday 26th June).

Netball: Lara Bingham, Lucy Cook & Hope Gibson

Rugby Union: Connor Vardanega

Soccer: Jaxon Guyer

Hockey: Ollie Livingstone

Rugby League Opens: Joe Murphy & Will Warner

Rugby Leauge 11 Years: Jack Dean

Rugby Union 7’s: Congratulations to our Year 4 and our Year 6 teams who competed at the Rugby Union

7’s Competition on last Thursday at Waratahs. Thank you to Mr Sheridan and Mr Hudson for coaching the

teams. The boys played the games in the right spirit and their skill level was high. Thank you to the

parents who transported and supported the boys during the day. The Year 6 team was successful and will

now take part in the Regional Final at Endeavour Oval on a date to be confirmed.

Sports Teams: Training and trials have been under way for Rugby Union, Rugby League and Netball. A

big thank you to Mr Hudson, Mr Sheridan, Mr Gough, Mrs Hazelton and Mrs Connor for organising these

opportunities for the children. It is important to remember that these teams are picked on certain criteria

based on the fact that we are a big school, that trails take place in lunch times and that teachers are giving

up their own time to provide this opportunity for our children.

Cross Country: The McAuley Cross Country will be held on Wednesday 29th March at Elephant park.

Children will be asked to nominate for this event. Children who are turning 9 & 10 Years will run 2km and

Children who are turning 11 & 12 Years will run 3km. Please talk to your child to make sure they are

confident over this distance before they nominate. The Diocesan Cross Country will be held in Coolah on

Tuesday 2nd May.

On Tuesday 14th of March, Mark Saddler came to our school to visit Year 3. He came because we are

learning about Aborigines. When I got into class I was surprised how different the our room looked.

First he taught us Wiradjuri words. The first word was mudyi which means friend. Then it was recess.

When we came back in, we did some art. We had to be in groups. I

was in a group with Ruby, Arjun and Audrey. The thing I did first

was I had to draw a kangaroo, a goanna and a tree. Then with the

four people in my group, we drew a track and it joined up. Then we

went to make shelters with bark and twigs.

After lunch he told us a sad story and a reconciliation story. Mr

Croke was listening then he gave Mark an apron. Then we did a

dance and Mrs Aumuller and Mr Croke joined in. I had fun.

My rating was five stars.
