commencing at 2:20pm in Kenna Hall. All welcome.
Diocesan Athletics Carnival: We are very proud of Freya Bryant, Holley Dunn, Hope Gibson and Taj Jordan who
competed in the NSW Catholic Primary Polding Athletics Carnival in Newcastle last Friday. Special congratulations
to Taj Jordan who ran second in the 100m. Taj will now represent Polding at the PSSA Athletics Championships at
Homebush on Wednesday 19th & Thursday 20th October what a brilliant achievement. Well done Taj!
Professional Learning: Sue Derwin, Bel Forbes, Helen Cracknell, Mark Sheridan, Eleanor Bettinzoli, Kim Pellow,
Robyn Petty and Debbie Sands attended an in-service in Bathurst on Tuesday 13th September on Literacy Blocks.
Sarah McDonagh who has been working with our teachers on developing students reading skills, fluency and
Literacy Blocks ran the day. I am sure they will bring back lots of strategies and ideas to share with their grade.
Catholic Primary Schools Netball: Congratulations to the Year 6 Netball team and Mrs Hazelton who won their
division at the Catholic Primary Schools Netball Competition in Penrith yesterday. Thank you to the parents who
transported and supported the girls. Please see our feature on page 4 of this newsletter to see how they went.
Behaviour at School: As a rule the standard of student behavior at McAuley is exceptional and a credit to our
school and the families who attend. However we do have incidents that occur and these are dealt with following our
policies and practices. If you have an issue with something that has occurred at school please contact your child’s
class teacher if it is a class issue or a member of the executive if it is a playground issue. All concerns and issues are
investigated thoroughly and dealt with. It is important to remember that Level 1 notes are issued to inform parents of
a low level incident that their child has been involved in. If necessary, a Level may be given, once the Level has
been completed the child starts a fresh. Every student at McAuley has the right to feel safe…be happy…and learn.
Year 6 Canberra Excursion: The Year 6 teachers have begun preparation for the Year 6 Canberra excursion that
will take place on Thursday 17th & Friday 18th of November. As it is a big responsibility to take over seventy
children away over night all Year 6 children must behave appropriately at school and all school functions to
experience this great privilege. Parents of children who are not exhibiting expected behavior will have to agree to a
contract that stipulates that the child won’t attend this excursion if their behavior continues to be unacceptable.
Morning Routine: Teachers commence duty at 8:35am. It is important that parents realise children who are
dropped at school before this time will not have direct teacher supervision. Any child at school before 8:35am
MUST be seated in the designated areas. Any children who are not seated before 8.35am will receive a Level 1.
Please Note the following Extract from our Uniform Policy: Children are expected to be attired in the correct
school uniform each day of the school year and to present themselves in line with school dress policy, which
stipulates:
Extremes of hairstyle are not permitted, these include coloured hair and haircuts or undercut less than a
‘two’ or rats tails. Hair below the shoulders must be pulled back off their face
no bracelets, bangles, necklaces or anklets - a religious medal on a fine chain may be worn

FROM THE RELIGIOUS EDUCATION COORDINATOR
Confirmation: Last weekend we welcomed Bishop Michael McKenna to our Parish to confer the Sacrament of
Confirmation on over 120 Candidates from our Parish. The Masses were beautiful and truly Spirit-filled.
Congratulations all those who were Confirmed. This is a very special time for both our students and our Parish, as
these candidates are the future of our Church and the blessings bestowed upon them are some of the many signs of
hope for our Catholic future. We were also very lucky to have Bishop Michael McKenna spend some time with our
Year 6 students last Thursday afternoon, as part of their final preparation. A very special thank you to our Parish
Sacramental Coordinator, Mrs Brooke Church for all her hard work behind the scenes, which allows all to
experience such reverent and uplifting ceremonies.
Catherine McAuley Celebration Day: This time next week, Wednesday 21st September, we will be celebrating
McAuley Day, and honouring our Patron, Venerable Catherine McAuley. Mass will be at 10:00am, followed by a
host of activities. We would love you to join us for Mass on this very special day, and stay for some of the fun!
Sacrament of Reconciliation: We have only just finished celebrating one Sacrament when it is time to look
towards our next Sacrament. Next term our Year 2 will be receiving their First Reconciliation on 8th and 9th
November. In preparation for this Sacrament, there will be a Parent Meeting next Tuesday, 20th September in St
Mary’s Church at 7:00pm. This will be an important meeting for all parents of Year 2 children who wish to
receive the Sacrament. Please make note of this date in your calendar now.
Launch of National Catholic Missions: Yesterday Mrs Gibson and our Captains joined representatives from James
Sheahan and St Mary’s and travelled to La Salle Academy in Lithgow to join with other schools in our Diocese for
the National Launch of Catholic Missions for 2016. It was a wonderful gathering of Catholic Community,
celebrating one of the key missions of the Church – helping those in need. Congratulations to our students who
were wonderful ambassadors for our school and thank you to Mrs Gibson for accompanying these students.
Christmas STORYTELLING ART Competition 2016 Opening of Exhibition” I hope you were able to come along
to view the Christmas Art display last week in Kenna Hall. The standard of work was amazing, and so diverse.
Congratulations to Bonnie Murphy in Year 6 who received 2nd place in the Year 6 Category, and whose work will
now go on to Sydney to compete with the finalists from the Sydney Dioceses. As we were only able to choose 3
works from all of our Year 5 and 6 students artworks, I am hoping to organise a time to display the other works not
submitted. This will hopefully be next week, but I will let you know when it is finalised.
The Exhibition began with a Liturgy and along with St Mary’s students, our Year 6 and Choir attended.
Congratulations to all on their conduct and participation in this Liturgy and Prize Giving. Both our School and
Parish can be proud of our representation. A special thank you to Mrs Aumuller, Mrs Allen, Mrs Mulligan and Mrs
Bishenden for leading the music so beautifully during the Liturgy, and to the Choir who were just wonderful!
Grade Liturgies for Term 4: I hope to have a list of Liturgical Celebrations for Term 4 in the newsletter next week.
It will be another full term with Mission Week, First Reconciliation, a Parish Mass, Year 6 Farewell and end of year
celebrations.
Wishing you a wonderful week, God Bless,
Robyn Petty
INTERESTING FACT OF THE WEEK
When people sing together in a choir, their heartbeats synchronise.
FROM THE PRIMARY COORDINATOR
Afternoon Pick-Up Procedures
On advice from the RMS we remind parents to collect children from the school grounds in the afternoon.
(Either Byng St or Hill St pick-up locations) Students will not be allowed to walk to parents waiting in
cars. As cars reverse park it is very difficult to see young children who are not in the presence of an adult
and this creates a very dangerous situation.
In some cases, a note has been sent in to provide permission for children to walk home without an adult.
Only children who have brought in a note are permitted to leave the school grounds without the
supervision of an adult.
Absence Notes
Over the last term there has been a great deal of sickness within our student population resulting in
children missing days of school. Just a reminder to ensure that all absences have been explained via a
written note to your child’s class teacher within 10 days of the absence.
Catherine McAuley- A “Sun-Smart” School
In preparation for the warmer months it is timely to remind everyone that we are a “Sun-Smart”
school. This means that children are expected to wear a hat in terms 1 and 4. We have a “No Hat - Play in
the Shade” policy. We also encourage students to apply sunscreen before arriving at school. Thank you for
your support of this policy.
School hats can be purchased from Orange Clothing Company, 4 McNamara Street, Orange, Kingfisher
School Wear, 151 Summer Street, Orange and at Lowes in the Metroplaza in Orange.
Just A Suggestion!
It is great to see our students wearing their hats during the hotter weather. Many of the younger students
have a hat which includes a cord. This cord provides minimal assistance in keeping the hat on, however,
can be dangerous when playing on equipment. It would be better for the cord to be cut off to avoid this
issue.

CPS NETBALL - PENRITH
Congratulations to our Year 6 netball team on being the
overall champions at the NSWCPS Netball Carnival held
in Penrith. Saige, Lucy, Kate, Meg, Bonnie, Abbey, Eve,
Chloe and Emma played extremely well, winning all of
their 7 games. The girls are to be congratulated on the
sportsmanship they displayed on the day. Many thanks to
Sue Dean for her outstanding coaching, Jane Lenehan for
organising the most amazing food, Millie Lenehan for
umpiring and to the wonderful mothers for their support.

PLC - Professional Learning Communities
Recent focus in Mathematics - Time This term the students from K-4 have been focusing on the concept of Time in Mathematics. Years 5 & 6 covered this topic in
Term 2 and will revise again in Term 4. Below are listed the “I can” statements for reaching proficiency in this topic. These are
not the only key areas covered in the topic but they are a focus. It is useful for parents and carers to know what the children are
expected to learn so that you can follow up with some “fun” questions about time at home!
