From the Pastor Dear Parishioners, Pastors need to consult with the laity who in turn has the right to express their views and concerns to their Pastors. A vital structure initiated to foster this collaboration in the mission of the Church is the Parish Pastoral Council (PPC). The PPC assists pastors in achieving the cooperation of the parishioners and staff in the task of carrying out the mission of the Church on the parish level. It is envisioned that the PPC is to be a significant consultative body in the parish which advises the Pastor who presides over the Council. The purpose of the PPC is to foster full participation of the entire parish in the life and mission of the Church which reflects the mission of Christ who was sent "...to bring glad tidings to the poor, to proclaim liberty to captives, recovery of sight to the blind and release to prisoners..." (Luke 4:18). Therefore, the PPC offers a means through which parishioners of Saint Stephen Protomartyr may actively participate in matters, which concern the good of the Parish. Also, and more importantly, it is intended to aid the pastor in building an authentic Christian community. Recognizing the need to prepare for the Renew My Church initiative of the Archdiocese and acknowledging that the current norms of the PPC needed to be updated, the PPC of St. Stephen, took a closer look at how parishes operate and started to develop new bylaws that make more effective its goals. It realizes that by working on the adoption of the PPC bylaws, it faces an opportunity that was both challenging and exciting. Change is never an easy thing but reorganizing the PPC to make it more responsive to our parishioner’s needs might allow it to carry out better its mission. In this way, a new approach to parish organization might help us do a better job of spiritual renewal and evangelization. ________________ On another note, the family also has a privileged place in religious education. The Catechism states that “parents receive the responsibility of evangelizing their children” and calls them the “First heralds” of the faith (2225). The family is called “domestic church” -- the church of the home (CCC, 2224). Thus, as we begin another year of the religious education programs, we will pray on this Catechetical Sunday that the Holy Spirit bestows upon parents and catechists the necessary gifts to teach the faith to our children. I thank them and the Sisters of Jesus Good Shepherd, Sr. Revelina & Sr. Teresa for the commitment to teach the faith to our children. In Jesus and Mary,

los pobres, proclamar la libertad a los cautivos, la recuperación de vista a los ciegos y liberados a los prisioneros ... "(Lucas 4:18). Por lo tanto, el PPC ofrece un medio a través

del cual los feligreses de Saint Stephen Protomartyr pueden participar activamente en

asuntos que conciernen al bien de la parroquia. Además, y lo que es más importante, tiene la intención de ayudar al pastor a construir una auténtica

comunidad cristiana. Reconociendo la necesidad de prepararse para la iniciativa Renovar mi Iglesia de la Arquidiócesis y

reconociendo que las normas actuales del PPC debían actualizarse, el PPC de San Esteban, examinó de cerca cómo funcionan las parroquias y comenzó a desarrollar

nuevos estatutos que hacer más efectivos sus objetivos. Se da cuenta de que al trabajar en la adopción de los

estatutos de PPC, se enfrenta a una oportunidad que fue desafiante y emocionante. El cambio nunca es fácil, pero

reorganizar el PPC para que responda mejor a las necesidades de nuestros feligreses, permite cumplir

mejor su misión. De esta manera, un nuevo enfoque de la organización parroquial podría ayudarnos a hacer un

mejor trabajo de renovación espiritual y evangelización. _______________

En otra nota, la familia también tiene un lugar privilegiado en la educación religiosa. El Catecismo afirma que "los padres reciben la responsabilidad de evangelizar a sus

hijos" y los llama los "Primeros heraldos" de la fe (2225). La familia se llama "iglesia doméstica", la iglesia del hogar

(CIC, 2224). Por lo tanto, al comenzar otro año de programas de educación religiosa, rezaremos en este

domingo catequético que el Espíritu Santo otorgue a los padres y catequistas los dones necesarios para enseñar la fe a nuestros hijos. Agradezco a ellos y a la hermanas

Volunteers needed to do free tax preparation AARP Tax-Aide is a volunteer organization that is looking for volunteers to do federal and state taxes in the northwest suburbs. Tax preparers and greeters are needed. No previous tax experience is necessary but basic computer skills are required. Those who volunteer receive IRS training materials and attend 4-5 weekday training classes in January at Harper College in Prospect Heights. Preparers will also need to complete an IRS certification test. Volunteers must be able to commit to 3-4 hours once a week during the tax season, February – April, 2020.
