SECRET OF SUCCESS The readings are fairly simple and straightforward.

Do just these two things—love God with your whole self and love your neighbor as yourself—and you will be saved. Deuteronomy and the psalm emphasize the importance of loving God with our whole selves. Hebrews reminds us that Jesus loved us as he loved his Father and so he offered himself for our sins. Mark says that loving God completely must also be accompanied by loving our neighbor. Jesus loved his Father with his whole soul, his whole mind, his whole strength. The love between God and Jesus makes them one. Everything hing-es on the completeness and the inclusiveness of that love.

LOVE We all love rules to measure our actions and assure

us that we have done enough. Today we are given two rules that offer us none of that. These rules require us to focus only on love: love of God and love of neighbor. There are not seven or ten. There are just two. You must love God but you must do it with your entire being. Eve-rything you are must be focused on and reflect loving God. And then you must love your neighbor. The first is key to the second.

Unless we understand how God loves both the lovable as well as the unlovable, we will never be able to love ourselves or any other creature or creation as God loves them all. The Gospels remind us that Jesus sought the broken, the marginalized, the unwanted to teach us how God loves. If everything about you is about loving a God who created and redeemed you, then you love as God loves. If you love as God loves, you recognize the weakness in yourself and in the world yet you still love that broken self and broken world as its Creator does. That is the only measure of success that matters.

Y luego debes amar a tu prójimo.

— Deuteronomio 6:5

VOCATIONS MINISTRY NEWS National Vocations Awareness Week is an annual week long celebration of the Catholic Church in the United States which is dedicated to promote vocations to the priesthood, diaconate and consecrated life. This is done through prayer and education also to renew our prayers and support for those who are considering one of these particular vocations. This year National Vocations Awareness Week will be celebrated from November 4th to the 10th. Please join us in Our Lady’s Chapel on Friday, November 9th at noon to pray for vocations.

CHRISTMAS GIVING TREE NEWS The Christmas Giving Tree is set in the vestibule. Please take a tag and put a smile on a child’s face this Christmas. Simply take a tag and purchase something from the suggested items listed on the tag. Return the unwrapped items in a bag with the tag attached to the outside no later than December 7th to the Parish office or December 9th to the box in the vestibule. The time limit is very important as we start wrapping the presents on December 10th and schedule families to pick up their gifts at the same time. Thank you,

Gracias,

NEWS FROM FAITH FORMATION

November is the Month of the Souls in Purgatory. Please say a special prayer as we remember those who have come before us. Eternal rest grant to them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

‘Tis the Season!

The Confirmation students are selling See’s Candies in preparation for their bus trip to the diocesan Con-firmation Conference in February. Please remember us when thinking of your holiday gift giving needs.

Please look for us after occasional Masses and at some service organization meetings in November. You may also visit the Faith Formation office during office hours. Thank you for your support!
