FJB’s Blog Dear Parishioners,

Happy Father’s Day! Today is wonderful day to recognize all the wonderful men who are fathers, grandfathers, godfathers, step-fathers, uncles, and/or men who play that fatherly role in our lives. I am very blessed with an incredible dad! He has taught me so much and if I can be just half the man he is I will be in good shape. I hope all fathers have a great day!

This past Tuesday, June 12, Fr. Thom Kowatch and Fr. Tim Roth started their new assignments as Parochial Vicars at Ss. Robert & William. A Parochial Vicar is what this Diocese used to call Associ-ate Pastor. As part of their ministry here at SRW, the Bishop has asked them to help me with Mass-es, Sacraments, and pastoral ministry at St. John of the Cross. It will be the three of us that will pre-side at Masses and the Sacraments. Next weekend Fr. Tim and Fr. Thom will be around after all the weekend Masses to meet you. We will have refreshments after all Masses so you can interact and mingle with these two priests. They are really looking forward to meeting you. I will do all the Masses at SJC that week-end so they can be here with you.

In the last few months I have gained the title/role of Administrator of St. John of the Cross in addition to my title/role as Pastor here at SRW. However, my most treasured title/role is “Father.” I remember the first few months after ordination of being called “Fr. John Betters.” I kept looking around wondering who they were calling. However I have come to treas-ure this title. Every day I ask God to help me to be a good “Father” to the people I have been asked to pastor. I am hum-bled by the Bishop’s confidence in me to do this for two parishes. While it is a challenge I believe it is one that, with the right support, I can and will fulfill well. My primary source of support will be Christ! With that said, I even though I have a lot of administrative responsibility, I am first and foremost your pastor, spiritual leader, and companion. I am very blessed in both parish communities to have a wonderful staff and volunteers who take on so much. Both parishes have very competent pastoral associates, business managers, support staff, parish/finance councils, and so much more. We are truly blessed! I am going to rely heavily on these people so that I can fulfill my most important duties as Sacramental and pasto-ral minister to you all. Why I am saying all of this? Recently, at both parishes I have heard people say something like, “I know you are so busy so I don’t want to bother you.” Thank you for your care and love of me but know that I am here for your spiritual and Sacramental needs. In an emergency I can be here at a moment’s notice. If you need to talk about any-thing, need some spiritual guidance, or just a compassionate ear to listen, I am here for you. All you have to do is call the parish office or email me ([email protected]) and we can set up a time to meet. I am a busy guy but I love that and I so much want to be here for you. I may not be on campus all the time because the gift of bilocation has not been given to me (HAHA!); but I am just a phone call or email away. The two parishes are 2.3 miles apart on the same street, so it will nev-er be a bother! Know that I love you all very much and I look forward to leading and walking with you on our spiritual journey.

Make it a great week! See you in Church.

Peace,

Fr. John

Dear SRW family, Words cannot express how awesome last weekend was for me. I am filled with gratitude for my four

years with you as your vicar and for your outpouring of love and prayers for me. Thank you for celebrating

Mass with me and coming to the picnic. I look for-ward to what Christ has in store for us all! A very warm welcome to your new vicars, Frs. Tim and

Thom! My blessings to you all, Fr. Scott

IRISH PALLOTTINE FATHERS’ MISSION APPEAL

On the weekend of June 30—July 1, Fr. Mariano Pinasco, S.A.C. will visit the parish to speak at all Masses about the mis-sionary work of the Irish Pallottine Fathers in Tanzania, Kenya, and Colombia. The second collection will support their work of evangelization and development in those countries. Please be generous in your support of their missionary outreach. The Pallottine Fathers were founded in Rome in 1835 by Saint Vincent Pallotti. He was a priest in the Diocese of Rome. He founded this religious community to encourage the apostolate of the laity and to promote the missionary work of the Church. Father Pinasco is currently a Professor of Church History at the Pallottine Institute in Santa Maria, Brazil. He is a native of Ar-gentina. He holds a Doctorate in Church History from Gregori-an University in Rome.

This summer Ursuline College is holding volleyball clinics July 23rd through the 27th for kindergarten through grade 9. Thank you for Participating in the Blood Drive

Many thanks are extended to those who signed-up and contrib-uted to our first Life Share blood drive. LifeShare Community Blood Services is a community-focused nonprofit organization committed to providing a safe and adequate blood and compo-nent supply for patient healthcare in Northeast Ohio.

We contributed 17 pints of blood, so we are halfway to our scholarship goal for the school. One more blood drive like this and we will hit our goal for scholarship money!

SPIRITUAL

SRW Rummage Sale and St. John of the Cross SECOND BLESSINGS SALE

For a number of reasons we have decided to discontinue the SRW Rummage Sale that we usually hold in July. We want to thank every-one who has contributed to it over the years and all that worked it. We very much appreciate your help. Over the time we had it at SRW, we have raised close to $30,000 for the parish. We know a lot of people liked to donate things to the sale so they could "declutter" and simplify their lives and homes. We encourage you to donate your items to St. John of the Cross Second Blessings Sale. St. John of the Cross is now accepting donations for their Second Blessings Rummage Sale. They will accept your gently used treasures including houseware and kitchen items, clothing, furniture, and toys. Please note, they cannot accept upholstered furniture, tube televi-sions, or any broken items. You may drop your items off every Satur-day, starting June 16, 9:00 am-1:00 pm at the Parish Community Center, 140 Richmond Rd. The sale will be September 8 & 9. If you have any questions, please call 216-289-0770. Thank you.
