We are two diverse communities of faith who are united in bringing the Gospel into

the daily lives of all who worship with us. We stand together with all people, especially the

poor and the alienated, as a sign of God’s universal love for all people.

We extend a warm welcome to all and hope that you will find the parishes of

St. James and St. Mary’s places where faith can be nourished.

SUNDAY'S READINGS

First Reading:

Peter said to them,

“Repent and be baptized, every one of you,

in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins;

and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” (Acts 2:38)

Psalm:

The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want. (Ps 23)

Second Reading:

He himself bore our sins in his body upon the cross,

so that, free from sin, we might live for righteousness.

By his wounds you have been healed. (1 Pt 2:24)

Gospel:

“I am the gate.

Whoever enters through me will be saved,

and will come in and go out and find pasture.” (Jn 10:9)

GOSPEL MEDITATION

With whom do we converse and listen to the most? Believe it

or not, the answer is ourselves. We are constantly having con-

versations with ourselves, and sometimes we even get caught!

Our inner conversations reveal the truth about ourselves. We

really cannot hide from ourselves, although we often pretend

we can. By conversing with ourselves, we find solutions to our

challenges, problem solve, work through our relationships,

formulate opinions, run through dress rehearsals of possible

conversations, and wrestle with and determine our system of

priorities and values. What other voices affect the conversa-

tions we have with ourselves?

Often, voices from our past continue to haunt us. These voices

cause us to mistrust our judgment, harbor anger, and cling to

our fears of rejection, failure, being wrong, and the like. It is

in these inner conversations that we face what holds us captive

our limitations, weaknesses, sinfulness, and stubborn ego

preoccupations. We often go about our lives putting out one

fire or another, keeping ourselves preoccupied and busy, and

trying to stay on top of things. Intentionally or unintentionally,

we find ourselves wandering off. We turn around and can no

longer see our home. We look down at our feet and realize we

have lost our anchor. Feeling scared, out of place, desolate,

unsettled, and lonely, we realize that we are lost.

We listened to the wrong voices! In the midst of everything

competing for our attention, the voice of the One who could

truly call us home got muffled. We didn’t hear it. As our inner

dialogues continue to play out, the one voice we need to con-

sult even before our own is God’s. He is the Good Shep-

herd who can keep us safely where we need to be. As we graze

through the stuff of our lives, we must constantly remember to

look up, be attentive, and stay focused. Our habits of prayer

are the only thing that can properly root us and keep us

grounded. Contemplating God’s presence and developing an

inner awareness of love incarnate, we will then find ourselves

praying unceasingly as the days and nights and the ebbs and

flows of our of lives unfold. Suddenly, the inner conversations

we are constantly having are no longer just with ourselves or

with voices that can lead us astray but with the Trinity, who

desperately wants us to stay home.

St. Mary’s News May 3rd

Social Distancing is keeping us apart. Though apart, let us pray

for each other’s needs and an end to the COVID19 pandemic.

Reminder: check the parish website sjsm.org/flock notes for the

videotaped Sunday Masses with Fr. Robinson.

I hope you are able to take the time to pray with us each Sunday

viewing the videotaped Sunday Mass with Fr. Robinson. While

it’s not like praying together in church, it’s a blessing .

You can also follow the weekly bulletin on the website and flock

notes. God bless and keep healthy.

From the Pastor:

Today was supposed to be First Eucharist day

at St. James! And next Sunday would have been the same for St.

Mary’s. I am so sorry that we are unable to celebrate these very

important events in our parishes at this time. But please be as-

sured when this stayathome order is lifted, we will do our best

to get back on track and schedule First Communion for both par-

ishes. It might not be until July/August, BUT it will happen. I

have requested a fall Confirmation date from Bishop LaValley

and I am still waiting to hear back from him. It might take a

while but I am sure we should have a new date sometime in the

near future.

Speaking of the Bishop, he writes this to all of us: “We may be

separated due to the health crisis, but we are united in the Body of

Christ. Thank you for continuing to pray with us through social

media opportunities provided. I want to thank you for continuing

to support your parish through Sunday envelopes or special dona-

tions as your parish relies on your generous support. I am so

grateful for parish priests who, utilizing creative means, are

providing parishioners with spiritual support and pastoral pres-

ence that is crucial, especially during times like these. I urge you

to contact your parish priest should you or your neighbor have

particular needs that they can address. Your loved ones remain in

my prayers.”

On another note: I am sorry to say that the Family Rosary Cru-

sade originally scheduled for May 15/16 has been postponed. We

hope to be able to have the Crusade later in May when

(hopefully) the shutdown will be lifted. I will keep you posted.

I hope everyone is wearing their face mask. I am wearing my

mask around the rectory. It is keeping me from stress eat-

ing! Someone said to me the other day, “We now know every-

one’s true hair color as a result of the coronavirus.” I have a con-

fession to make; I really have red hair. But a few years ago, I

started dying my hair gray. I thought it gave me a distinguished

look but I guess I was wrong. Another parishioner confessed to

me the other day: “It’s horrible 6 weeks without sports! I found

a lady sitting on my couch. Apparently she’s my wife. It seems

rather nice!” And how about all that fuss about toilet paper. I

remember back in the day, there was so much toilet paper that

people used to literally string it up in the trees of their enemies.

RICE BOWL REMINDER It is not too late to turn in

your Rice Bowl donations. Please bring them to the

Rectory. Thank You.

Feast of St. Joseph the Worker

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ:

God desires that all children be entrusted to the

love and care of a mother and a father. Mary is our spiritual

mother. Joseph is our spiritual father. In 2017, the Diocese

of Ogdensburg was consecrated to the Blessed Virgin

Mary. On Friday, May 1, the Feast of St. Joseph the Work-

er, I consecrated our Diocese to St. Joseph in the chapel of

the Motherhouse of the Sisters of St. Joseph in Watertown.

According to St. Pope John XXIII, God desires

devotion to St. Joseph to surge forth in our day. My friends,

it’s time for our total consecration to Joseph. We need the

spiritual fatherhood of St. Joseph to help us protect the

Church, marriage and the family. As Protector of the

Church, we rely on his powerful intercession in the struggle

to combat evil, both outside and inside the Church. We go

to Joseph to strengthen our resolve to protect our families

and marriages. We go to Joseph for his assistance in regain-

ing the gift of spiritual fatherhood for our dads.

St. Andre Bessette, OMI during an epidemic mirac-

ulously nursed many of the dying back to good health in the

name of St. Joseph. Those of us who have made a pilgrim-

age to St. Joseph’s Oratory in Montreal are aware of Jo-

seph’s powerful intercessory prayer for healing. The Orato-

ry’s walls, lined with crutches, give tangible testimony to

the power of his prayer. As Hope of the Sick, we rely on St.

Joseph’s intercession for those suffering from the corona

virus and from all illnesses.

Joseph was the first missionary. We invoke the pat-

ronage of St. Joseph as an impetus for the Church’s re-

newed commitment to evangelization in the world and to re

evangelization where religion and the Christian life were

formerly flourishing and are now dormant. “With his pow-

erful spiritual fatherhood…, our Church can be renewed as

a light to the nations, a beautiful city on a hill” (Mt.5:14

16). (D. Calloway, Consecration to St. Joseph).

The man who helped to raise Jesus walks with us

on this journey of faith. Joseph’s steadfast trust in God and

his patience with God’s plan prepared him for events that

he did not foresee or understand. St. Joseph is a model of

persevering faith, courage and hope. With prayers of trust-

ing abandonment, we confidently go to this carpenter who

took the Child and His Mother on the perilous journey to

Egypt and back.

On this Feast Day of Joseph the Worker, the faith-

ful of the Diocese of Ogdensburg are determined to go to

Joseph, for the sake of our families, our marriages, our

Church and our sick. Good St. Joseph, Pray for us!

   Faithfully yours in Christ,

   Most Reverend Terry R. LaValley

Augustinian Academy School News May 3, 2020

The Augustinian Family congratulates Fr. Robinson on the 40th

anniversary of his ordination. We are so blessed to have Father

with us. He willingly and actively joins in all the events and

activities we host. He willingly sits all three days in the dunking

booth at the Fair, and he is such a good sport to "kiss a pig, be

dunked in icy water, and be slimed" to encourage the students to

bring in those Box Tops for Education. He joined the cafeteria

ladies in our lipsyncing contest during Catholic Schools Week,

and he attends all the Fun Hours, History Fairs, and special as-

semblies. He prays with us, and he has fun with us! Fr. Robin-

son has selflessly shared his gifts with all of us, and we are for-

ever grateful! Many blessings as you continue to answer God’s

call to serve the families of Augustinian Academy, St. James,

and St. Mary’s.

The school office is open from 9:00 12:00 daily. We continue

to accept registrations for the 20202021 School Year. We have
