This work is a personal biography by Australian photographer Max Pam in which photographs are mixed with facsimiles of notebooks, diaries, passports, postcards, letters, drawings... a unique artist book-collage which complies 50 years of work by this author. It will delight fans of Pam’s work, as it enables a personal and intimate dialogue with the artist and provides a unique insight into the photographer’s journeys. Cámara Segura. Fotografías del rodaje de La reina de EspañaJavier Cámara y Santiago Segura

Este libro recopila las fotografías que Javier Cámara y Santiago Segura tomaron durante el rodaje de La reina de España, segunda parte de la celebrada La niña de tus ojos, de Fernando Trueba. Un entretenido recorrido por lo que sucede entre bambalinas, en el que aparecen algunas de las caras más conocidas del cine español como Penélope Cruz, Antonio Resines o Loles León. Se trata de un libro cargado de imágenes del día a día de un rodaje, que acerca al espectador el lado menos conocido del cine: las sesiones de maquillaje y vestuario, el trabajo del equipo técnico, las paradas para comer… En palabras de Santiago Segura, estas fotografías “de alguna forma desvelan el truco, no respetan el misterio, muestran el ‘cartón’, humanizando el séptimo arte, haciendo terrenales a los dioses del celuloide”. Las imágenes, tanto en blanco y negro como en color, están acompañadas por textos de ambos autores y del propio Trueba.

This book brings together the photographs taken by the actors Javier Cámara and Santiago Segura during the filming of The Queen of Spain, sequel to Fernando Trueba’s celebrated The Girl of Your Dreams. It presents an amusing tour of what goes on behind the scenes and it features some of the best-known faces of Spanish cinema, such as Penélope Cruz, Antonio Resines or Loles León. It is a book loaded with images which depict everyday life in a movie shooting, showing the public a lesser known side of films: dressing and make-up sessions, the technical staff’s work, lunch-breaks… According to Santiago Segura, these photographs “somehow reveal the trick, they don’t respect the mystery, they break the spell, humanizing cinema and turning celluloid gods into earthly people.” These images, in color or black and white, come with texts by both authors and also by Fernando Trueba himself.

Every night temo ser la dinner, de Sofía Ayarzagoitia, es un relato inconexo y vibrante en torno a sus encuentros con once hombres de diversas razas y procedencias. Una frenética proclama de amor de una autora que muestra la crudeza propia del mirar de los niños y de los locos: de los sin juicio. A través de micronarraciones no lineales, la fotógrafa construye una sucesión de vivencias —articuladas a modo de performance— que captura con su cámara. Los textos están escritos en “pocho”, nombre que se da en México al lenguaje fronterizo que mezcla español e inglés. Según la fotógrafa, “el título del libro es una metáfora cargada de ironía de cómo llegué a sentirme alguna de esas noches. [...] En un universo fundamentalmente masculino, nunca estaba segura de si me iban a pedir una cita o a increpar por querer hacerles fotografías”. Sofía Ayarzagoitia (Monterrey, 1987) ha sido la ganadora del Concurso La Fábrica 2016.

Every night temo ser la dinner is a vibrant and rambling narration which revolves around her encounters with eleven men of different races and backgrounds. It is a wild proclamation of love by an author who speaks through the crude vision of children and the insane. Through non-linear micro-narrations, Sofía Ayarzagoitia composes a series of experiences—in the shape of a performance—which she then captures with her camera. The texts are written in ‘pocho’, the name given in Mexico to the frontier language that combines Spanish and English.According to the photographer, “the title of the book is an ironic metaphor of how I came to feel some of those nights [...] In a primarily male universe, I was never sure whether they were going to ask me for a date, or tell me off for wanting to take their picture”. Sofía Ayarzagoitia (Monterrey, 1987) has been the 2016 winner of the La Fábrica Contest.

Además, Antón Castro entrevista a José María Merino; Fernando Aramburu nos cuenta en su diario cómo vive un escritor una mudanza; Inma Chacón reflexiona sobre el lenguaje en torno al cáncer; y Ángeles González-Sinde nos abre las puertas de su biblioteca. Todo ello, en un volumen ilustrado con imágenes del proyecto fotográfico Wannabe de Elisa González Miralles, quien nos introduce en un juego de realidades y reflexión social al retratar tanto a muñecas hiperrealistas como a mujeres de carne y hueso en Japón.

This issue of Eñe magazine presents a literary inventory of diverse addictions— psychotropic substances, alcohol and food, but also pastoral nature, marital prying and sex with dwarfs. As proved by the authors of the short stories and poems that make up this volume, addictions are a lifestyle, a disposition from which it is difficult to escape and which causes happiness and anguish at the same time. Also, Antón Castro interviews José María Merino; Fernando Aramburu tells us in his diaries how a writer lives through a move; Inma Chacón reflects on the language around cancer and Ángeles González Sinde opens up her personal library for us. And all of it accompanied by images from Elisa González Miralles’ photographic project Wannabe, introducing us to a game of realities and social commentary with portraits of both hyperrealist dolls and real women in Japan.

A New Generation of Photographers is a statement about a new generation, bringing together important works by 16 emerging photographers. Almost all the participants, from various countries, were born in the 1970s and 1980s. The selection—which includes Laia Abril, Pep Bonet or Cristina de Middel amongst others—focuses on photographers working in Catalonia and Spain. This exhibition offers a perspective on new modes of photographic expression in the twenty–first century. The most noteworthy characteristic of the moment has been the rise of group photography, where stories unfold in ways that are narrative, documentary, conceptual and poetical. In terms of subject matter, the photographic series presented here contemplate and consider some of the fundamental and defining questions of our time. All told, they constitute a reflection on the human condition in these nascent years of the new millennium.

Un total de 21 obras seleccionadas personalmente por el artista conforman este volumen único que hará las delicias tanto de los aficionados al arte contemporáneo como de los seguidores de Weiwiei.Ai Weiwei (Pekín, 1957) alcanzó fama mundial tras participar en el diseño y construcción del estadio Nido de Pájaro de Pekín junto a los arquitectos suizos Herzog & de Meuron. También participó en la Bienal de Venecia y en la Documenta de Kassel, además de alcanzar gran éxito con su instalación en la Tate Modern de más de cien millones de semillas de girasol esculpidas en porcelana por artesanos chinos. Perseverante, tenaz y crítico —especialmente con el gobierno chino—, Ai Weiwei demuestra que el arte también puede ser un canal para el activismo en pro de los derechos humanos y la libertad de expresión.

The Artist Book accompanying volume S of Matador magazine brings together the series entitled Idomeni Laundromat by the famous Chinese artist and activist Ai Weiwei. A total of 21 works selected personally by the artist together in a unique publication that will delight contemporary art enthusiasts and Weiwei’s fans alike. Ai Weiwei (Beijing, 1957) gained worldwide recognition after participating in the design and construction of the Bird’s Nest Stadium in Beijing along with Swiss architects Herzog & de Meuron. He has also participated in the Venice Biennale and Kassel Documenta, as well as achieving great success with his famous installation at the Tate Modern of over one–hundred million sunflower seeds cast in porcelain by Chinese craftsmen. Determined, tenacious and critical—especially towards the Chinese government—Ai Weiwei has proved that art can effectively channel freedom of speech and human rights activism.

Wannabe habla de chicas que parecen muñecas en Japón; sobre la objetualización de estas mujeres según costumbres sociales que conducen a comportamientos automáticos. Ilustra cómo las personas sienten la necesidad subconsciente de seguir un rol predeterminado por su cultura. Con este trabajo, González Miralles reflexiona sobre cómo los estándares sociales —no solamente en Japón, sino en cualquier parte— constriñen el comportamiento y la identidad. Cuestiones universales, especialmente considerando la obsesión que la autoproyección representa para la sociedad actual. Máster en Fotografía Documental, Elisa González Miralles ha sido ganadora o finalista en importantes premios fotográficos. Recientemente ha expuesto su trabajo en el Festival Internacional de Roma, el Art Photography Show de San Diego o el Festival de Lishui en China. Wannabe es su proyecto más reciente, expuesto en Blank Paper (Madrid) con ocasión de PHotoEspaña 15 y en PhotoIreland 16.

Wannabe is a photographic project about doll-like girls in Japanese culture—about the objectification of these women to serve societal customs that lead to android-like behaviors. It illustrates how people growing in a certain culture unconsciously feel the need to follow a predetermined role. With this work, González Miralles aims to question how societal standards—not only in Japan, but elsewhere—constrain human behavior and the development of identity. Questions that affect us all, especially considering the obsession with self-projection in today’s society. With a Master’s in Documental Photography, Elisa González Miralles has been a winner or finalist in major photographic awards worldwide. She has recently exhibited at the International Festival in Rome, the Art Photography Show in San Diego and the Lishui Festival in China. Wannabe is her latest project, exhibited at Blank Paper (Madrid) in the context of PHotoEpaña 15, and PhotoIreland 16.

Slant Rhymes es una conver-sación entre dos autores reconocidos internacionalmen-te: el fotógrafo de la agencia Magnum Alex Webb y la poeta y fotógrafa Rebecca Norris Webb. Recopila una selección de 80 fotografías, tomadas durante los más de 30 años de amistad y posterior matrimonio de los Webb, emparejadas —una de Alex, una de Rebecca— para crear una serie de rimas visuales que dialogan entre ellas, a menudo de manera oblicua, intrigante y reveladora. “A veces nuestras rimas fotográficas oblicuas comparten similar paleta o tono o geometría”, escribe Alex Webb. “Otras veces, las fotografías emparejadas tienen una nota similar —a menudo una inclinación por momentos surreales o sorprendentes o enigmáticos— pero en dos claves distintas”. Estas imágenes, la mayoría de las cuales no han sido publicadas anteriormente, están acompañadas de textos cortos escritos por Rebecca Norris Webb. El resultado es un poema de amor inacabado, recitado de manera oblicua.

Slant Rhymes is a photographic conversation between two world renowned authors, Magnum photographer Alex Webb and poet and photographer Rebecca Norris Webb. Selected from photographs taken during the Webbs’ nearly 30-year friendship and later marriage and creative partnership, this group of 80 photographs are paired—one by Alex, one by Rebecca—to create a series of visual rhymes that talk to one another, often at a slant and in intriguing and revealing ways. “Sometimes we find our photographic slant rhymes share a similar palette or tone or geometry”, writes Alex Webb in the introduction to the book. “Other times, our paired photographs strike a similar note—often a penchant for surreal or surprising or enigmatic moments—although often in two different keys.” These photographs, most of which are published here for the first time, are interwoven with short text pieces by Rebecca Norris Webb. The result is an unfinished love poem, told at a slant.
