Dear Delegates, Friends, and Guests;
I’d like to welcome you to the 2017 District NMI / NYI / SDMI Convention.
Paul urges us in Ephesians 4:1 “to live a life worthy of the calling you have received.” This year’s theme for convention is “The Cause of Christ.” It’s a reminder of who we are serving, that everything we are and everything we do is to bring glory and praise to Christ.
Sometimes it is easy to get lost in this calling. We begin to make the burden our own and view our contribution as the most important thing. In reality, our meager efforts are nothing without His power and His Spirit working in and through us. Furthermore, this calling is not to be viewed as a burden but as an opportunity to partner with the living God to accomplish this Kingdom work of sharing His gift of love with the world.
With this in mind, our hope for this convention is that you would be encouraged to pattern your life after Christ and to live out this call in your own life, in your church, in your community, and in the world. We are blessed to have missionary, Dany Gomis with us. Dany is a great example of God’s call lived out in a surrendered life.
Today, may your heart resonate with Paul’s words as you seek to live out this call of God in your life. Our prayer is that you would be renewed with His strength to follow boldly wherever Christ leads.
In Christ:
Judy Owens
District NMI President

Dany Gomis Today we welcome Dany Gomis as our convention speaker. Dany Gomis came to the Lord as a young adult after searching for many years. He heard singing one evening while walking in his neighborhood in Dakar, Senegal. He wandered into Boaboabs Church of the Nazarene and there found Jesus. It wasn’t long before he joined the church and became actively involved in reaching others for Christ. As of 2002, he served in the translation, interpretation and distribution of holiness literature in the Church of the Nazarene in Africa and globally. He is a member of the French Manual Translation Commitee and the FLAC (French Literature Advisory Committee). He graduated from the University Gaston Berger (Senegal) with a Master’s certificate in African Studies in 1995 and from Nazarene Theologcial Seminary (Kansas City) with a Master of Divinity in 2011. He served in Dakar, Senegal as Pastor of the Boabab Church of the Nazarene until 2012 and currently serves as Field
Strategy Coordinator for the work of the Church of the Nazarene in the 14 countries of West Africa. Also with him today are his two younger daughters, Sarah and Tabitha. Dany and his wife Elizabeth and their two daughter reside in Dakar, Senegal.
Scott and Emily Armstrong - Scott and Emily, along with their children Elijah and Sydney, join us today as our guest as they visit churches on the Michigan District. The Armstrongs reside in the Dominican Republic and serve the Mesoamerican Regions as co-coordinators of Mesoamerica Global Mission and Mesoamerica Genesis, developing mission leaders and urban ministry. Today they will be speaking to our children during the morning session.
Steve and Rebecca Barber - Steve and Rebecca are no strangers to the Michigan District as they come from our Grand Rapids International Fellowship Church. They have been serving in Thailand since 2015 and are home for their first home assignment. This summer is filled with speaking in churches and working at several of our youth camps. Check out their display table and invite them to your church to share what God is doing in Thailand. Dan and Coralee Behr - Dan and Coralee come to us from Mount
Vernon, Ohio. Their assignment is unique in that half the year they live in Ohio. The other half they live in Manila, Philippines serving at Asia Pacific Nazarene Seminary. They are available for deputation services during this fall. Check out their display table and see how you can become a part of what they are doing.
Jeremy and Reetu Height - Jeremy and Reetu are newly appointed missionaries to Dakar, Senegal. Jeremy and Reetu, along with their son Zane, join us from Indianapolis, Indiana where Jeremy is currently serving at Shepherd Community Center. If you would like to hear their story of how the Lord called them to service in West Africa be sure to connect with them and invite them to your church.

NMI DISTRICT PROJECT
Our project for this year is to raise enough money to provide 267 audio Bibles to preaching points and church plants.
• About 2/3 of the world’s population are oral communicators.
• In most places around the world when a church is started, there are very few, if any, Bibles in the church.
• Audio Bibles help them hear God's word at each preaching point and at church plants.
• Jesus Film has used a hand-held, solar powered, audio Bible called The Papyrus for several years. This device is available in 200 different languages.
• They have a brand new audio Bible called The Torch that includes a multi-function light which is very useful in remote areas where there is no electricity.
• The Papyrus and The Torch each cost $75.
“So faith comes from hearing, that is, hearing the good news about Christ.” Romans 10:17 NLT
Will you help them hear?

Building God’s Kingdom by Personal Involvement
Over 150,000 people have been mobilized through Work and Witness since it’s beginning in 1974, resulting in
more than 5000 years of donated hours of labor worldwide.
Work and Witness teams go to every region of the world and partner with local churches in construction
projects, technical needs, evangelism, and compassionate ministries. Be a part of something significant!
Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Galatians 6:9 (NIV)
