Your Group is asked to take the role of a Research Management

Committee who are funding projects such as Human Behavior in

Confined spaces. You have been called to an emergency as one of the

experiments has gone badly wrong.

Seven volunteers have been taken into a cave in remote part of thecountry, connected only by a radio link to the research hut by the cave

entrance. It was intended that the volunteers would spend four days

underground, but they have been trapped by falling rocks and rising

water. The only rescue team available tells you that rescue will be

extremely difficult and one person can be brought out each hour with

the equipment at their disposal. It is likely that the rapidly rising water

will drown some of the volunteers before rescue can be affected.

The volunteers are aware of the dangers of the plight. They have

contacted the research hut using the radio link and said that they were

unwilling to take a decision as to the sequence by which they will be

rescued. By the terms of the research project, the responsibility for

making this decision now rests with your committee.

and you need to advise the team of the order for rescue by completing

the ranking sheets.

her time and Fathers money in social work.

Joshi is a man of 40 years and has born in

Kenya of Guajarati parents. He comes from a

priestly family and is well known astrologer.He lives in Delhi and his clients include

several senior politicians and civil servants.

He is quite influential and it is said that he

can get anything done in Delhi. He has no

children of his own and runs severalorphanages in various cities. According to

many social organizations his orphanages arethe best managed in the country. Lately,

some press reports have alleged various

wrong doings in his Kolkata orphanage.

Amitabh is a major in the Indian Army. Heis unmarried. He has received many

gallantry awards and commendations for

his bravery while tackling the emergency

in Nagaland and Kashmir. There were also

complaints that he had molested twotribal girl in Nagaland but the matter had

been hushed up due to his excellent

record.

Paul is a man of 42 years, who has been divorced

for 6 years. His Ex- wife is now happily re-married.

He was born in Kerala but now lives in Ranchi,

Jharkhand. Paul works as a Medical ResearchScientist and has been working with the WHO in

AIDS Research. He is on the verge of a major

breakthrough in finding a miraculous cure to theAIDS virus. Initial experiments have been quite

encouraging. Much of the research data is still innotebooks, which he always keeps in a secret

place. Two months back, he has been diagnosed of

a stomach cancer and the doctors have said that

he does not have more than 6 months to live.

Ajmer Singh is a 35 old man. He was born inAmritsar and studied Geology at Dhanbad. He hasbeen engaged in exploration of mineral wealth andhas prepared a number of project report for newdeposits. He is married with 2 children. His wife

teaches English literature in a Womens College. Hehas been quite frustrated by his inability to

convince the bureaucrats of starting prospecting

work as per his report. He has also received a verylucrative offer from the Brazilian Govt. of workingthere on a seven year assignment including full

citizenship while he is quite keen to leave, his wifehas strong reservations.

Ahmed is an IAS Officer and is 56 years old. He isa Secretary in the Petroleum Ministry. He is

married with three children who have their ownfamilies and live independently away from

Mumbai. Ahmed has recently returned fromKuwait. The Kuwaiti Petroleum Minister is relatedto him by marriage and through him he is in the

advanced stage of finalizing a deal wherebyKuwait would invest two billion dollars in the

country.
