• Very thorough introduction and being able to come and play a few times before my child started was really good. He settled really well

• The interaction with my child straight away was great, he felt welcomed and comfortable immediately, this in itself put my mind at ease and made the initial first visit pleasurable

• Is good, the key person is available to talk• Everyone from every room are friendly and very welcoming

and will help if needed• Everyone is always friendly• Very friendly, welcoming, helpful and supporting• This was 3 years ago• Very welcoming• Very warm, friendly and caring• Upon enquiry the appointment to visit was allotted very

promptly and on arrival we were shown around the area and the centre. Was able to put to rest all our worries and provide accurate information for all enquiries

• Staff are always smiling and friendly• Lovely welcome, always hellos and talking• Friendly staff and welcoming• The nursery was recommended initially and we were

thoroughly impressed on our first visit, staff were extremely helpful and pleasant

• Was really impressed to have 2 home visits when first attending

• Very positive and flexible to fit me in

The information you received about the Nursery

26%

74%

Inadequate Satisfactory Good Outstanding

• Good pre-starter info and communication via text and email

• I cannot recall ever having to ask for my information or additional information to answer any questions

• All information is available by email• Good level of info• Very informative• This was 3 years ago • Very good• Our child is 100% content. Says it all• It would be nice to hear a bit more about the

governor activities and how parents get involved• Good newsletter• The information in the newsletter doesn’t tell you

anything regarding term dates• Perfect, can’t complain• Very happy to give as much information as needed

and open to get my daughter a place in the nursery• Excellent and the constant text updates are very

helpful.• Thorough, although didn’t realise children not

allowed nuts in lunch box. Might be helpful to include.

The security of the Nursery

Inadequate Satisfactory Good Outstanding

• Good to have securely closed doors that only workers

can open• The security is in place and of a high standard,

although I would like to see reminders to the parents and other visitors that the main gate is to be shut and bolted across after them. I have turned up to it being open quite a lot recently

• Child is well protected• Very safe and secure• Many people don’t close gate after themselves and

door code is not changed often enough. Also car park often has litter . But not major concerns

• Very good• The door code is being treated as ‘top-secret’ and I

have never seen children being neglected• Very secure, it’s taken very seriously• The door codes are changed on a regular basis• Security seems fine to me• Think it’s great, the codes are changed regularly• This was a big attraction, due to secure garden and

separate baby garden

The settling in arrangements for you and your child

3%28%

69%

Inadequate Satisfactory Good Outstanding

• Good pre-starter information and being able to come and play a few times before starting was good

• I had no problems with him settling in and was offered options to settle in gradually if needed

• Very friendly and easy to use• Very reassuring and settling• This was 3 years ago• Yes, I was very happy the way he was settled in• The staff are lovely, but having different key person

for the 2 days has definitely made settling in a bit harder

• Not too sure… it’s always quite hard and nearly impossible to provide suitable settling-in arrangements for a 1-year old! They are far too young and independent!

• The children know what to do and staff are always there to help if needed

• Have no complaints whatsoever• Got a lot of information from the staff as well as the

registration pack which also helped us• We were very pleased with the help we all received

on settling my child in• Very flexible

• Welcome is better in Ducklings, Goslings and Cygnets• Always greeted with a smile and a good morning• We are always really touched by how friendly it is and how our

daughter and us are always greeted very warmly. It is lovely to see she is so welcome and it clearly shows as she loves to go to nursery too

• Hasn’t changed since my child first started – still warm and welcoming

• Nice and happy welcoming• Staff are very welcoming and friendly when we arrive, makes you

feel very at ease• Most days we are greeted and they ask how we are – sometimes

that doesn’t happen when busy but its not really a problem• All staff greet my child by name and seem to know him• Keyworker is not always available• However because I work here sometimes I feel I’m left to get on

with it and approach certain staff to handover. Other staff are excellent. We are greeted well in the staff room

my sons day, someone is always willing to do so, it’s never a chore or hassle

• Very thorough• Very detailed, relevant and individualised feedback• Yes I am very happy and always been told what's going on• Very detailed, I’m always impressed by staff’s memory and

attention to detail.• I sometimes have to ask for day sheet and then it cannot be

found• Staff always have time for us at the end of the day• Feedback can’t always be given but if it’s something

important they will make sure you know• Always told how my child’s day has been• Overall happy with the information I get about my

daughter’s day• We love hearing about our child’s day it makes us feel

Inadequate Satisfactory Good Outstanding

• I have had several pleasant comments from various staff members commenting on the personality of my child. I think it’s lovely that the whole team have taken time to know him and his ways rather than just one member of staff

• Very interested in learning key words to help with the different language spoken at home

• Great awareness and understanding of my child’s personality and developmental needs

• Good understanding of personality but I am not convinced individual development needs are realised and acted upon since in larger pre-school environment

• Very happy• Excellent. The staff show a real understanding of my child’s

personality and preferences AND they got him to eat vegetables – amazing!

• Outstanding• I’m always impressed by how well all members of staff working in

nursery know my daughter• They all know her very well• Perfect• A professional team working really well on my daughters

personality and development needs. I can definitely see good results

• The team have been great, I was even advised we could arrange our child’s speech therapy classes to be held at nursery if we wanted

• Still quite early days but they seem to be getting to know him well• Unsure as we haven’t had a parent’s evening since our child has

been in this room• We have been very impressed and pleased with the way our child is

observed and encouraged in his own learning• Always able to show my child’s progress. They have a good

understanding of her strengths and are able to make reference to that. In my view they know her well

happy to give it to me• Well supported• Receiving helpful advice and answered any questions• Fantastic• I received lots of advice on toilet training which I was

grateful for• Some staff have supported us in our toileting target that we

are doing at home• They were very supportive especially during the settling-in

period• Effective and helpful discussions about my child’s biting

like a nuisance• Yes very well• Staff are open to any requests and are happy to do

them• I’ve always had family birthday cards made when

Inadequate Satisfactory Good Outstanding

• Had a good meeting with key worker recently• In past year this does not seem to be updated as regularly as

it used to be.• Not sure how regular this should be? Not discussed this sort

of thing for a while• Well explained• Don’t think these are always proactively acted upon but am

very clear on how process is supposed to work• Again, depends on key worker – excellent now• Very good• Not really discussed this• Rarely get info directly on planning• Information is really clear in the records. It would be good to

have this explained in more detail at parent meetings • This is explained during parent consultations• Having the access of the record book where I can see the

steps of my daughters development• Such a great facility, thoroughly enjoyed looking through my

child’s records and photographs• Unsure now what records are kept but we have also been lax

in attending parent meetings• Haven’t seen any planning info

• Very diverse and mixed culture within the nursery which I love

• No comment as I happy with it but don’t know much on it

• Very diverse setting – no cause for concern• Very positive environment• Very good• Knowing the staff, I imagine it’s excellent but

can’t really comment as haven’t seen in action• Don’t know how this is done• There are always a wide range of activities on

offer• Not sure?

The effectiveness of engagement with parents

51%49%

Inadequate Satisfactory Good Outstanding

Action

• Always see happy parents, freely discussing and engaging them effectively

• Majority of staff are good at engaging with parents but one has a lack of social skills and failure to acknowledge parents. A smile once in a while may help!

• Very effectively engaging• Newsletters very good but don’t receive them as

frequently as used to which is a shame• Very good• Would like to get involved but have no idea of

structure behind scenes. With direct issues they are very well engaged

• The parents are invited in at the end of each term to hear the children sing

• I am always approached by staff upon arrival and engaged in conversation

• I have found this positive• Good at inviting parents to large events. Think we

need more smaller activities to invite parents to such as picnics, to read a story, or song etc in individual rooms. I haven’t been invited to join anything in the individual room since he started nursery School

The extent to which your child achieves and enjoys their time at the setting

27%

73%

Inadequate Satisfactory Good Outstanding

• He loves it!• My son loves it at Caversham Nursery. He has a great time and talks

about the staff as much as the other children. I don’t really see much on the things he may have learnt but his speech, behaviour, manners and life skills with interacting are amazing and improve all the time

• Achieving full potential• Very happy with ‘enjoyment’ part but ‘achievement’ not so good

since moved into Swans (probably as so many children). Would like to see more phonics and work with numbers, letters and writing, painting etc – daily comment from child is ‘boring’

• Loves it!• My child loves to come and play• Immensely. I pick up a very happy child each time• My daughter absolutely loves it and has settled really well after just a

couple of weeks• She loves it• My child happily goes to nursery and often doesn’t want to leave!• She has gained a lot of self confidence and enjoys coming in

especially because she can play outside even if its raining/wet• She seems to really love it. We’re really pleased• Perfect• She loves playing in the garden especially with the sand. She also

enjoys painting and craft activities. There is a variety of activities she can choose from

• He smiles when I say you are going to nursery and actively talks to family and friends about his time at nursery

• So far he seems to enjoy pre-school• She enjoys her time after the initial goodbye from us• He loves coming to nursery and has close relationships with his key

worker, buddy, and team/children

The extent to which your child feels safe in our care

10%

90%

Inadequate Satisfactory Good Outstanding

• Very safe, trust the staff 100% and the environment• Setting and staff comply with health & safety rules• Very safe, happy environment• Yes• Excellent because of the lovely staff but a single key

worker to drop off to would have made him feel more secure from the outset I think. That said, it’s good for him to get used to lots of people and not be dependent on one

• All your staff seem very trustworthy and caring• All staff is very trustworthy and friendly• She knows who to go to if she has a problem and feels

comfortable around all of the staff• She seems very happy and content• My child always loves coming to nursery and always feels

safe• She is happy with the way she is treated by the teachers

and the other kids, calling all of them “my friends”• Very safe and comfortable• He has a close relationship with most staff which makes

me feel more comfortable leaving him• So far he has not said that he feels worried or unsafe

The extent to which we promote a healthy lifestyle

• He’s always exhausted when he comes home• Snack time is great, always a healthy snack and regular access to

the outdoors area and allowing running around is also great• Very well balanced diet and children are encouraged to exercise

by going out to the garden or for a walk in nearby areas• Love the amount of time they spend outside – a real plus in my

book. Would love to see more work done teaching kids the importance of healthy food and why as they often listen more from nursery staff than parents

• Very good• Great work with the carrots! My child doesn’t need any

encouragement with exercise he rarely sleeps anyway!• We love the fact that kids can play outdoors for a majority of the

day – no matter the weather• My child hated raw veggies prior to attending the nursery. Now

‘eating in a group’ strategy has helped him with a lot and I find it much easier to feed him veggies at home too

• I love the fact that kids play outdoors for a majority of the day – no matter the weather

• The way the nursery is set out encourages the children to move and play due to the easy access to outdoors

• There is always fresh fruit available for snack and lots of outdoor play

• Great, he is trying more and more food and fruits, which we love• Good range of food – however my child dislikes cheese and is not

offered an alternative when it is on the menu – so just has crackers. Otherwise great

• I like that children always have access to outdoor activities and go outside in all weathers

• Its good she constantly has access to the garden and is taken on trips

• I really like the fact that all snacks are healthy and varied

• He has come on exceptionally since started at nursery – thank you

• I’m constantly amazed at what he is learning• I think my child’s social skills are developing since

starting. He is learning a lot about interactions with a range of peers

• Its been 4 weeks for my child although it seems so promising

• My child has learnt the routines of washing hands at snack/meal times and is beginning to say ‘thank you’

Additional Comments• Lovely nursery, lovely staff. Well done – my child has really enjoyed his short time with you

and you have helped him settle in so well• I have been impressed with my child’s development since he enrolled into Caversham

Nursery School. The school have ignited his creativity, curiosity and confidence and he can now take care of some of his personal needs without help. I will encourage your school to keep up the good work you are doing in the lives of children. My regards to the entire Caversham Nursery School team. Thanks.

• Please remind other parents to shut the outside gate as this is regularly left open. Please remind other parents to park considerately – parking in disabled bays or outside front door is ridiculous. Prior warning of parent meetings needs to be improved – one weeks notice for working parents not enough. General admin and finance is poor and needs to be looked into. Tone of voice used in text messages needs to be looked at – comes across as very aggressive especially the text re school visits.

• I am happy with the nursery but potentially less happy than I have been as there has been lots of staff change for my child recently and I’m not sure whether this has an unsettling affect on him. However I do feel all staff are friendly and supportive.

• I am very satisfied with the care, education and guidance my child receives. I feel the environment is safe and secure. The staff are very helpful, friendly, welcoming and supportive. I am happy staff are supported and encouraged to attend relevant training. I like the end of the day feedback written and handed over to parent.

Page 23: Caversham Nursery School Parent survey carried out June-July 2014 Analysis, Report and Action Plan

Additional Comments• My daughter loves nursery. She always comes away chatting about her day, her friends and

her key worker. She has developed secure attachment to her key worker and it is clear her key worker knows her very well. The recent parents meeting was very thorough and enabled me to pose many questions which were all clearly answered to my satisfaction. I have always felt very supported as my daughter has moved through various ages and stages. Thank you.

• I’m very pleased with my son’s overall time at Caversham Nursery and with his key person and everyone at the nursery. I’ve tried other nurseries and this one’s the best I’ve been to, thank you.

• Daily phonics work please and more short sessions on letters, numbers and writing. More painting and cooking in Swans group please – helps concentration as well as creativity. Would like to see more interaction with books.

• Overall, I’m absolutely thrilled we chose Caversham Nursery. The centre is clearly much more child-control than other nurseries. The children are very clearly having a lot of fun and have a lovely relationship with the staff who seem much more willing to engage with them and “get their hands dirty”. My Child is really really happy here and really enjoys his time and looks forward to it each week now. There have been quite a few staff changes which is a bit unsettling but the staff are all so lovely and the freedom of movement between rooms means it’s been ok. You should be proud of the warm, lovely, fun and friendly team you’ve cultivated, it’s a pleasure to talk with all the staff at the centre – and the office staff are also absolutely lovely and very friendly and helpful too.

Page 24: Caversham Nursery School Parent survey carried out June-July 2014 Analysis, Report and Action Plan

• Lovely nursery, lovely staff. Well done – my child has really enjoyed his short time with you and you have helped him settle in so well.

• I am very much impressed by the attachment and trust that my child has developed towards his key person. The emphasis laid on promoting activities, healthy habits and healthy diet and the reading sessions require special mention. The flexibility in meeting the special requests raised by parents is much appreciated.

• My child loves the time she is at nursery. Very happy when I return to pick up. Feel a bit in the dark as to how to support the nursery with my active participation, though direct issues are easily dealt with and staff are very approachable and knowledgeable.

• Our child has attended the nursery for almost a year and we are really happy with everything. She is happy and looks forward to going to nursery and the staff all have good relationships with her and with us.

• I have been using this nursery for a total of 5+ years and I can honestly say I am proud to say I have used this nursery. My children have developed into bright and confident people with this nursery. My child leaves in September to go to primary school but just as I did with my eldest I will continue to praise the efforts and very hard work that is put into the nursery by all staff. Everyone here is approachable, friendly and never too busy for a quiet word and sometimes I know I have had the odd question to ask but it has always been answered and that’s what matters. You are leaving your child in a safe and wonderful place knowing that at the end of the day questions can be answered. Keep up the good work!

Additional Comments

Additional Comments• My child is always talking about various staff on the way to nursery. I can see he is

comfortable and settled with them. He is happy to leave me in the mornings. Staff in Goslings follow my wishes well and I find them very understanding and easy to talk to. I love that they instantly follow what we have been learning at home and his interests after I’ve spoken about them at handover.

• We are really pleased with the ducklings team and the nursery in general. The facilities are great and we feel that our child is really well cared for and loved! He loves the variety of activities including all of the messy play we don’t do as often at home! Thanks to everyone.

• Really happy with how my child has settled. She now has a strong relationship with her key worker and this is evident from the feedback I receive but also from my child’s response. It’s lovely to see her progress with a team that I feel really know and understand her as an individual. She loves coming here and as a result I feel really reassured when leaving her to go to work.
