12 August 2019 Week 4, Term 3 2019
FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK: Dear Friends and Parents of Cawdor PS
We have had an exciting couple of weeks at Cawdor.
Year 5 students attended a Camden High School Taster Day to experience some of the subjects they will engage in when they reach high school.
The students were busy practising their athletics skills leading up to our school Athletics Carnival. It was great seeing so many parents out supporting their children. Thank you to all the parents who assisted with time-keeping and recording duties. Thank you to all the staff, including Mr LeGood and Mrs Hillier, for making it a successful carnival, and to Mrs Kidd for the huge amount of hours needed to run the carnival.
The P and C have purchased more black matting for underneath the COLA, so that all children can sit more comfortably. Thank you.
We welcome Mrs Amy De Jarlais to Cawdor. She is very excited joining the teaching staff and will be teaching the Koalas every 2nd Wednesday when I have
my RFF.
On Wednesday, August 21, we will be having our combined Education Week and Book Week Parade. We will be starting the day off with a community BBQ breakfast followed by our Book Week Character Parade. Parents and friends of Cawdor are then invited to visit the classrooms, to view a typical morning of learning for the students. We will conclude our Open morning with parents sharing a picnic lunch from 11.00 – 11.35 with their children. More in-depth information is included in the attached flyer.
We have had some incredibly windy weather, which has caused us to keep the students inside for health and safety reasons. Last Friday, we lost power for the last 90 minutes of the day. We were able to manually flush toilets and had bottled water on hand for the children who required it.
I’m looking forward to seeing you at our assembly this coming Wednesday.
Yours in Education

STUDENT SAFETY AND WELLBEING
To ensure the safety and well being of all students, the school has an incident recording system
called Notification Slips. These slips will be filled out by the teacher on duty in the playground
or classroom when a student has not followed the rules or behaved in a manner that puts their
safety or the safety of others at risk. Should a child receive two or more of these slips within a
two week period it may result in them receiving one or more days of detention or restrictions
being placed on their access to the playground, until the school is confident that they are able to
follow school and classroom rules. Should your child receive two notification slips in a two week
period the school will let you know via a letter which should be signed and returned to the school.
Our school has always been proud that we provide a safe and harmonious environment in which
our children can learn and grow. These measures are designed to continue to ensure that the
children have a happy and safe day at school. Your support is greatly appreciated.
Sports News Last Wednesday we had our school athletics carnival. We only had 10 children in the entire
school who needed help with transport. The help and support of our parents is unbelievable.
Thank you very much.
The weather could not have been better and participation was outstanding. K-1
children ran age races of 70m followed by fun activities including parachute
games. We certainly saw a lot of potential and look forward to all the 7 year
olds competing in the primary carnival next year. Primary children had the
opportunity to compete in the following events: 100, 200 and 800m running
races, discus, shot put and long jump.
The following children deserve special recognition for competing in every single
one of these events. From Koalas we had Noah, Attilio, Anthony Jessica, Sofia,
Autumn and Zara. From Echidnas we had Nicolas, Lachlan, Hewson, Cooper,
Sara, Megan, Sydney, Ceyda and Ameya. From Wallabies we had Patrick.
We planned to run high jump on Friday but due to extreme winds we had to
postpone it. It will be held at school sometime before the Zone Athletics
Carnival which is in week 6
(29th and 30th of August).
Children who qualify for Zone will
have a note sent home shortly with
all relevant information.
