Lee Kuan Yew Exemplary Student Award (LKY-

ESA)

The Lee Kuan Yew Exemplary Student Award (LKY-ESA) honours

students in Special Education schools who have risen above their

inherent disabilities and challenges to motivate and inspire their

peers. It recognises and affirms students with special needs who

are role models of learning, dedication, perseverance and courage

in areas such as academic, vocational, sports and arts as well as

service to the community. The school is proud that Kristel Ong (P5

Humility) has won the award. Congratulations, Kristel

Dear Parents

It’s hard to imagine that we have come to the end of yet another term! Term 3 is always a harried term as our P6 students ramp up their preparations for the Preliminary Examinations and the PSLE Oral Exams. Following shortly after will be the PSLE Listening Comprehension and the Written Examinations. As the preparations intensify, students from P1-5 showed their moral support by putting together a message board with their notes and prayers of hope for their friends in Primary 6. While our Primary Sixers gear up for their examinations, we would also like to affirm our other students who continue to do well in activities, beyond the academics. This term was significant – we had our Inaugural Prefect Investiture as well as our Inaugural LKY-ESA awardee. This term also saw our P3 students attending a 2-day 1-night camp as part of the building up of their independence and realisation that every child has their own leadership skills. P3 Sports Camp

The P3 pupils attended a 2 day-1-night camp at school with their schoolmates from CCPS from Thursday, 2

August to Friday, 3 August. The Science and Sports camp was organised to expose students to sports

activities such as cycling and skipping which are not taught within the PE curriculum. Through the outdoor

activities, students were exposed to authentic learning of Science.

During the camp, students were expected to be able to identify actions that demonstrated the school

values of commitment, compassion and cheerfulness.

We are very proud of Sri Putri Indraqasih, Oh Qi En and Mohd Izwan Shah for being displaying the

Canossian Spirit during the camp! They were each given certificates to acknowledge their model

behaviour.

National Day Parade (NDP) 2018 Funpacks

2018 is the first year that the designs by 38 students from 18 special education (Sped) schools were

featured on the National Day Parade (NDP) funpacks. Isaac Kok (Primary 4) represented Canossian School.

Isaac and his mother were invited to an event to show case this year's funpacks at the floating platform at

Marina Bay, where President Halimah Yacob met and thanked the student artists from Special Education

schools. She hopes that it will not be a one-off effort on the NDP committee's part to involve the Sped

community. "It will be a strong message sent through our society to everyone to do their part to support

our special needs community because they do have talent. They have special talent and capabilities that

many of us don't have", she added.

National Day celebrations @ CCPS

Canossa Convent Primary School, Canossian School and Canossian Preschool celebrated our nation’s

birthday with a solemn march-in by the Girl Guides. Ingrid (P4 Faith) was the student leader representative

from Canossian School to take part in the recollection. Current and past National Day songs were sang and

there was a special performance by the Primary 6 students.

Yakult Factory Tour

The school organized a Learning Journey for its P1 to P5 pupils to the Yakult Factory on 16 August 2018.

The aim of the Learning Journey was for pupils to learn more about intestinal health and develop an

appreciation for the biotechnology industry in Singapore.

During the Factory Tour, the pupils attended a talk to learn more about the benefits of probiotics in Yakult.

The pupils also saw how Yakult was manufactured and bottled and were treated to a complimentary bottle

of Yakult.

The learning journey was indeed fun yet educational for the pupils.

Sharity Day at Gardens by the Bay

Our P1 to P3 students were invited to Sharity Day at Gardens by the Bay on Friday 24 August. Along with

peers from other mainstream and special education schools, they had fun at the activity booths

and carnival games, as well as exploring the Cloud Forest. Our student, Rex Chan, had the honour of being

one of the emcees for the opening ceremony, which was followed by a musical about accepting those with

special needs and different abilities. It was indeed a fun-filled day for all!

PSLE Listening Comprehension

Friday 14 September

Students to report to school from 7am to 1.40pm. They will need to bring a snack to school as the

canteen will be closed. No breakfast for FAS students.

Mid-Autumn Festival P1 to P3 Family Night

Friday 21 September 2018 5 pm to 7.30 pm

A gentle reminder for families (P1 to P3) who had bought tickets to keep this date, an inaugural Mid-Autumn Festival Family Night. Lucas (P2 Charity) is the emcee for the event and Yong Kang (P1 Humility) will be performing a song item.

Universal Studios Singapore Trip 2018 (USS Trip 2018)

Canossa Convent Primary and Canossian School, partnered by the Canossian Alumni, would like to take the children who are on FAS for a day out to Universal Studios on Children’s Day. Details will follow.

In Singapore, it was launched by Singapore’s Ambassador-at-Large, Professor Tommy Koh on 27 September 1993. VSA will be having a 10-day long exhibition to feature the winning and commendable entries from the Competition from the 21st to 30th September 2018 at Forum the Shopping Mall.
