Presentation Night
Welcome back to Week 6 of Term 4! It is amazing to think that students entering Kindergarten next year in 2018, after thirteen
years of school, will complete Year 12 in the Year 2031! Futurists, scientists who attempt
to systematically explore predictions and possibilities about the future, predict by 2031
autonomous, self-driving cars will be commonplace, wearable technology will replace
smartphones, quantum computer chip technology will massively accelerate learning and
artificial intelligence capabilities, robotics will have the capability to replace manual la-
bour and that mankind may discover habitable planets in the universe.
This is best exemplified by changes in modern agricultural systems, with auto steer trac-
tors common, satellite imagery being used to record paddock history, solar powered water
systems common and technology now allowing farmers to remotely monitor irrigation
systems. The question many educators are grappling with is; where does traditional edu-
cation fit with this? What skills will our children and the next generation require to thrive
in such a world?
A Community Forum session will take place tomorrow afternoon, Wednesday, 15 No-
vember 2017, at 5.30 pm in the school library. In this session, parents will have the op-
portunity to participate in a brainstorming session: Where are we now? What skills and
capabilities will our future students require? What is the community’s vision for Coleam-
bally Central School? Where do we want to be in 2020? Additionally, parent groups will
assist with developing a Vision Statement that will define our school. I hope to see you
there.
Thank you to those families that have returned or completed online the Two Stars and a
Wish for Coleambally Central School. Feedback can still be provided through the link

Year 12 Farewell Dinner
The Year 12 Farewell Dinner will be held this Thursday, 16 November 2017 at the
Coleambally Community Club at 7.00 pm. I am looking forward to meeting now ‘ex-
students’ and their families and celebrating their achievements in completing Year 12 and
HSC studies. Please note that this is a Department of Education function until 9.30 pm
and there will be no alcohol allowed as per departmental policy.
Stage 6
Our Year 11 and Year 12 Stage 6 students have commenced their preliminary course re-
quirements in preparation for the HSC year as part of the compressed curriculum. This
week Stage 6 students are completing mandatory requirements including HSC: All My
Own Work, a program designed to help HSC students follow the principles and practices
of good scholarship and Crossroads, which is designed to help senior students address
issues of health, safety and wellbeing at a time when they face significant changes and
challenges in their lives.
Remembrance Day
A service to commemorate Remembrance Day was held in the school grounds yesterday
morning. Remembrance Day is a special day, marking the end of World War One and
now where we remember all service men and women who have fallen in any war. The
school community should be proud of the respectful behaviours demonstrated by students.
Working With Children Check - Volunteers
Coleambally Central School is very fortunate to have parent support and community volunteers in assisting us to implement our
many and varied school programs. This support is very important to us and is a key part of our partnership with parents and the com-
munity.
In accordance with the Child Protection (Working with Children) Regulation 2013 NSW the NSW Department of Education requires
schools to have volunteers, (which includes parent helpers ) complete a Working with Children Check – Declaration.
You will need to complete a declaration form and return it to the office along with proof of identity. Information regarding the 100
points required are attached to the declaration form. Forms will then be certified by office staff and filed with your child’s records.
When your Working with Children Check – Declaration has been received it will be securely stored at the school and destroyed when
your child leaves the school. This procedure does not need to be completed annually.
Thank you for your understanding and assistance with this process. If you have any questions about this process please contact the
school office.
Year 5/6 Canberra Excursion
Another reminder that the Year 5/6 excursion to Canberra in Week 8 is fast approaching! A reminder to all parents that if they have a
payment plan in place to continue making regular deposits. All funds will need to be received before students depart on the excursion.
PBL Reward Afternoon
As part of our Positive Behaviour for Learning Initiative we will be holding a Reward Afternoon for K-12 students this Friday 17th
November. This is a celebration and recognition of our successful implementation of the program in the playground.
Students will have the opportunity to wear mufti to school, enjoy a free sausage sizzle at lunchtime and participate in an afternoon of
Kahoot trivia games.
