It is a welcome endeavour by the Chinese Cultural Centre of Greater Toronto to host the CCC Toronto Piano & Violin Competition 2019. The creation of the competition reflects the multicultural character of this country.
It will play a critical role in the future of many aspiring young pianists. The participants will have a common goal: to excel through the universal language of music.
Their talent and dedication must be nurtured. Therefore I believe that this competition carries the mission to recognize their potential and stimulate them to rise to the heights of their capabilities.
It is my wish that this opportunity will prove a milestone on the participants’ journey towards fulfilling their dreams.

It gives me tremendous joy to support the Chinese Cultural Centre of Greater Toronto as they host the Toronto Piano Violin Competition 2019. Having grown up in the GTA, I have participated in many competitions first in Toronto, then nationally, and finally on the world stage. Competitions provide an unparalleled motivation for young artists as they journey towards artistic excellence; we learn a great deal about ourselves when our skills are put to the test.
Competitions can be fierce, yet competitors must be fearless in their pursuit of excellence. Support from our teachers, mentors, jurors, and peers, is infinitely important to every young artist – for their development and to fuel their passion.
I sincerely thank and commend the CCC for their dedication to providing this essential nurturing platform for these wonderful young artists to engage with our community as they hone their skills and pursue their dreams.
It is my wish that our young artists will be inspired by themselves and each other, and find life-long artistic collaborators and friends in music.
With very best musical wishes,
Yi-Jia Susanne HouThe Juilliard School [BM, MM, AD]3-time International Violin Competition Gold Medallist
